Kris? Really? I guess all the people who were voting for Danny Gokey switched over to Kris. Adam will do just fine though, but this was a definite upset.

Hi-lights of the show, Kara showing off a horribly skinny, yet well toned body.
Queen rocking out on stage and Adam sounding right at home with them (gee, should Paul Rogers be nervous?)

Kiss was great to see (I am a lifelong kiss fan) but they seemed a bit old.

Lots of great segments, and a few that fell flat, namely the Black Eye Peas.

Overall, good season. Thoughts?

Still trying to decide what shocked me more tonight: Kris or the Orlando Magic. Pretty sure it's Kris. I never thought about your theory of Danny voters switching over to Kris. I guess that helped him out some.

To be fair to him though, he was super solid for as long as I've been watching (top 13). He never struck me as a possible winner but he also never struggled, never had a bad week. By the time it got to the top 6 I had a pretty strong feeling that the top 2 would be Adam and Kris.

Having said that though, Adam not winning STILL shocked the crap out of me. Kris is a great singer but he's just too low key, even when you're not comparing him to the super gaudiness of Adam. Just look at how he took the news that he won the contest. So... boring! I just don't see that "superstar" quality in him. But I guess good looks, a piano, and a guitar are invaluable given the audience.

Kara versus Bikini Girl was incredible. They really set that poor girl up and took her down pretty hard. I thought for a few moments she might either A) cry B) run off stage C) get into a catfight with Kara or D) all of the above.

Steve Martin on the banjo still has me scratching my head.

I don't know who that crazy girl was (Tatiana, I think?) but she has a better singing voice than half of the top 10. Too bad she's a complete nutcase.

I came for Anoop, I stayed for Adam, and now I think I'll be back for next season. As if I don't watch enough TV already!

Well a few weeks ago I came to the conclusion that Adam would lose in the finale, simply from how much hate you read about him online. He had a big following but it was a love him or hate him type thing. No one had him as their second favorite. They were either already voting for him, or never would.

But since you can't vote against someone, it didn't matter up until this week. When it's down to 2, you essentially can vote against the one you don't like. Adam just struck a lot of people as really annoying with that screechy, girly voice.

So I was incredibly happy he didn't win, especially after all the judges did to kiss his behind this season and get people to vote for him. Simon didn't look very happy at the end there.

I still say Allison was the best one this year and has a chance at a good career. This finale show was the best one they've ever done though, made me ready to watch next season. So long as they get rid of Kara.

Adam's problem was that he was like the Dallas Cowboys of the early 90s: if you'd poll to find out everyone's favorite and least favorite contestant, he'd win both polls. Once it got to be one-on-one, his core of fans wasn't enough to overcome the people who hated him.

I wanted Danny to win (homer!), but I think Kris's fans would have broken more evenly or toward Adam, where Danny's fans probably tended toward Kris (all of this is guessing, but it seems right). Of those two, I don't think Goke could have beaten Adam.

A few other thoughts:
If Norman Gentle had made the top 13 and gotten enough of the goofy vote to hang around for a few weeks (not hard to do when you just have to not come in last), I don't know if the Adam phenomenon would have taken off like it did. If there was somebody MORE over-the-top than Adam, people would have just looked at him as a painted ginger who has a very tonal scream. I'm half-ginger, so I can use it as a pejorative. Where my gingas at?

Watching Rod Stewart stumble around onstage made it clear that there is always a silver lining when artists die young. We'll never have to see John Lennon doing a duet with Tatiana del Diablo or "this week's mentor, Kurt Kobain".

More on Rod, if Maggie May is about an older woman who has seduced him, how the hell old is Maggie? A hundred? He should maybe not sing that song anymore. The way you trip on the floorboards really shows your age.

Rod Stewart seemed to pick things up after being onstage for a few minutes. Maybe at his age, it just takes him a bit to warm up.

I could see Adam fronting Queen.
EDIT: So can

Supposedly 38 million votes came from Arkansas. That 's quite the voting bloc there for Kris.

This would be a great move for everyone involved. Adam looked great with Queen and American Idol would an insane amount of publicity out of having one of their guys go from contestant to fronting QUEEN. This needs to happen, preferably soon.

I can say that I was one of the ones hoping for Kris. While I don't deny that Adam is talented, I can say that without a doubt, I dont see myself ponying up 15 bucks to listen to him scream over and over on an album. It just wore thin. Very thin. Kris had impressed me all season, and especially after he took Kanye's "Heartless" and redid it.

That was one heck of a finale.

Total setups to get some more Norman Gentle, Bikini Girl and Tatiana, but who cares??

Loved Ryan's line to BG, but I have no doubt it was pre-planned or even written for him ("I would ask you 'what's new' but I think I know!")

Loved Kara "dueting" with BG. I genuinely thought BG was gonna snap and scratch her eyes out. She looked PISSED that Kara was out there and I'm not too sure she was told about it beforehand, but maybe she's just a better actress than I give her credit for.

Nice body on Kara!! She's no BG, but I ain't no prize either.

I wished I hadn't ruined the surprise of Kiss coming out when Adam started singing "Beth." My wife and very young children had no clue. My kids still had no real clue who Kiss were, but they were very curious about the costumes and makeup.

I'll also throw in with the "Adam would be great with Queen" chorus.

I thought the only real misfire on the established artist front was Rod Stewart. Why did he get to sing so much on his own (or at least have the state to himself for so long)?

I would have been fine with any of the Adam/Danny/Kris triumverate winning so I couldn't lose either way. I think the win would have helped Adam a bit more as his "spot" would have been guaranteed, whereas I don't think Kris will need the help as his sound will seemingly reach across more musical tastes that Adam's (pure speculation on my part of course).

Was a fun season and my kids are already looking forward to January.

Well, I'm with you - nothing worth really talking about...and yet here I am starting a thread again hoping somebody somewhere sees something in this show and can tell me why I keep watching it. ...
