NEW YORK (AP) — American League Gold Glove winners have been announced and Seattle right fielder Ichiro Suzuki gets his 10th straight, while Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter takes home his fifth overall. Also honored were first baseman Mark Teixeira (teh-SHAYR-uh) and second baseman Robinson Cano of the Yankees and third baseman Evan Longoria and outfielder Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Rays. Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer, White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle (BUR'-lee) and Seattle outfielder Franklin Gutierrez also won.

I'm saving all my complaints for when the Yanks throw a few hundred million and some Hawaiian islands at Cliff Lee.

Torii Hunter couldn't even bring home his usual Gold Glove? This was just a wretched year all across the board for Anaheim.

I find it really hard to believe that Jeter is the best fielding SS in the AL at this point, although I don't watch enough of the AL to know who actually is.

Using a combination of Ultimate Zone Rating, and Tom Tango's 2010 Fan Scouting Report, I'd say the AL Gold Glove SS should have been either Alexei Ramirez or Cliff Pennington. Both would never actually get the Gold Glove in real life since they were average at best as hitters, and for some inexplicable reason that matters for an award which is called the "Gold Glove".

And in the NL...

C: Yadier Molina (3rd award)
1B: Albert Pujols (2nd)
2B: Brandon Phillips (2nd)
3B: Scott Rolen (8th)
SS: Derek Jeter (6th)
OF: Michael Bourn (2nd)
OF: Carlos Gonzalez (1st)
OF: Shane Victorino (3rd)
P: Bronson Arroyo (1st)

(it's actually Troy Tulowitzki)

Do we know who finished in second place in the AL for shortstop, or does that not get revealed?

Of course Alexei Ramirez also had a higher OPS than Jeter. But he doesn't have as much leadership or True Yankee as The Captain, so no luck.

I was actually quite surprised that I was able to pick up Mears. I was sure you would get him first, knowing your feelings about Relief Pitchers. After losing Patterson, I missed out on Goodwin, although the trade market got me Ordonez back...
