I watched maybe 5 innings of this series, but I caught both of Jeter's big double plays. Not only that, I called for them 2-3 batter prior. Nothing has made me happier this year than to have Jeter have a terrible postseason, and more importantly worse than A-Rod's. My wish now is for A-Rod to opt out, sign with the Cubs, and win the World Series MVP while Don Mattingly leads the Yankees to a .410 record.

Pretty much the same reason he stuck with Byrd starting instead of CC - those are the horses that got him there. They had a three run cushion, and he came out challenging the Yankees.

What a series. Tired of the total Yankee-centric coverage, but hey - makes the winning that much sweeter. Now to see if we can shut up the Sox media.

A-Rod actually went 4-15 in the series, with 2 BB and the HR.
    Jeter: 3-17, 0 BB, 0 XBH, 3 GIDP.
    Posada: 2-15, 2 BB.
    Matsui: 2-11, 5 BB.

To pin this on A-Rod, or any one player, is stupid. That said, if you want to blame ONE guy, blame the guy who hit into three double plays.
I agree, don't pin it all on Rodriguez.

I have no idea if Betancourt can close or not, but on Eric Wedge's behalf I would like to offer LaTroy Hawkins as defense exhibit #1. Dusty Baker totally pissed 2004 down the toilet trying to make Hawkins (9 blown saves) into a closer when the Cubs' guy went down with an injury mid-season. This season showed me that Piniella certainly would have tried *someone else before the death knell hit in game #154.

Oh yes, who was the closer that came up with a bad shoulder, forcing a lights-out setup man into a role he just couldn't handle?

Joe Borowski.

And now you know... the REST.. of the story.

Yeah, it was what, 14-3 after 6 innings? So the majority of the runs were scored in garbage time.
- Mr. Boffo, Haha, holy shit, 30-3? (2007)
