I was traveling this weekend and just got caught up on the return of Young Justice.
This was the long awaited Speedy episode. The real Roy Harper is alive and well, and understandably pissed off. He was a lot more understanding of his clone Red Arrow, who spent 5 years looking for him and saving him. Green Arrow, his mentor, who gave up on him, Speedy wasn't so kind to.
Speedy decides to escape the hospital and go on a revenge quest against Lex Luthor. It's the Speedy vs. Lex Luthor dream match comic book nerds have always wanted. Most of it took place in a parking garage with Luthor feeling pretty calm as his bodyguard Mercy hunted Speedy with her robot cannon arm. Also, Otis is Lex's head of security. Great to see Otis and Mercy in Young Justice. Where was Miss Tessmacher?
Despite managing to destroy Mercy's robot arm, Speedy is overwhelmed and beaten. But Luthor is a generous guy and cuts him a deal - giving him an even more advanced robot arm to replace the real one that was amputated. Speedy gratefully accepts and renames himself Arsenal. I'm sure that new robot appendage has no means for Luthor to spy on The Team or anything.
In a weird B plot, the ladies of The Team meet in an outdoor restaurant to celebrate Rocket's engagement. (To whom? Icon?) Artemis is given tribute to, since most of them believe she's dead. For some reason Captain Cold decides to rob the bank ACROSS THE STREET and is pretty disheartened to find Miss Martian, Wonder Girl, Rocket, Zatanna, and Batgirl assembled to smack him down. Sucks to be Snart.
I think the moment I liked best was Impulse and Blue Beetle looking at statues of fallen Leaguers and Beetle lamenting that others like Superboy, Nightwing and the Robins get to work with their mentors but he never got to meet Ted Kord, the previous Blue Beetle.
(edited by John Orquiola on 2.10.12 0839) @CMPunk “@ZackRyder: @CMPunk She played me bro” I got your back.
I was quite happy to have this show back but there were so many plot threads from months and months ago that I need to get back up to speed (Flash Fact) about...
You know when Speedy was fighting Mercy, I was kinda ok if he killed her. I would have been ok if he killed Lex, but that was never going to happen. I say this, because I feel Young Justice is sometimes so dark and neutral with the way the heroes win that for once I was ok if a piece was taken off the board for the Light permanently. That says a lot about a kids cartoon show.
The scene I did like was Sportsmaster and Cheshire stating that they are going after the Black Manta. Its going to be interesting to see evil Aqualad swim at that.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.
