This put a big spotlight on the new Aqualad, while also providing some surprises. Namely, the OLD Aqualad, though not acknowledged as such, nor was he acknowledged as Tempest. Here, he was simply Garth. We also got the original Aquagirl, which was pretty neat, too. Hard to believe that between these three, Aquaman, Mera, and Lorena, the DC Universe has an entire Aqua family.

This show emphasized more than anything that Atlantis and the Aqua family is more about sorcery and magic than about "talking to fish", so that was refreshing. Seeing them in action against Black Manta was pretty neat and it was a good exhibition for the new Aqualad.

We also got some slight movement on some ancillary plots. Superboy/Miss Martian, Robin's training with Batman, Artemis getting admitted to Gotham Academy. These plot points didn't lead anywhere, so their inclusion was a little curious.

This show's still moving on at a good pace. The ending had the team going to Bialya, which is where the next episode will leave off. Until then...

There are all kinds of nerds in the world, including the type of nerd who gets excited at the appearance of Starro The Conqueror. (That's me.) You neglected to mention Starro! The whole reason Black Manta attacked and blew up half of Atlantis. And it was just a Starro tease! No million little Starros grappling people's faces.

I think this was the best episode so far. The character work was superb and Atlantean life in the DC Universe was vividly depicted. The animation was spectacular and gorgeous. The subplots were all subtly handled, laying groundwork for stuff to come. And now we know what a birthday party with three generations of Flashes in attendance looks like.

I'm also the type of nerd who gets excited when Bialya is mentioned. Ah, Bialya! Bialya My Bialya. The Queen Bee! Those were my some of my favorite issues of Giffen and DeMatteis' Justice League International. I'm gonna go dig up and reread those...

He was not acknowledged as Tempest per say, but there was this gem;

Garth: "Behold the power of THE TEMPEST!"

Yeah, I'm easy to please nerd wise.

Anyway, like John said some excellent character work. I love how they're depicting Batman in this show. Rough around the edges, but he certainly has a soft spot for kids. The basketball scene was brief, but really shows Batman as a father figure.

Which leads to something else I wanted to point out; people forget that in the comics Batman has pretty much raised three kids (Dick, Jason, Tim), with a fourth now in the mix (Damien). it's one of the reasons why, in the comics, he was able to put Jaime Reyes at ease right after he became the blue beetle. "Booster, you have no idea how to deal with kids" was a line during the OMAC project, and coming from Batman he would know.

It's one of the little things that goes unnoticed, but I picked up on it in the very first episode. Superman feeling unease with Superboy makes sense; he feels violated. Batman going out of his way to meet Superman and tell him Superboy needs a father figure and what not is TOTALLY in character, and you really see a few times how Batman treats Superboy really well and with respect.

The Flash family; awesome. Especially the comparisons between Barry (the ideal) and Wally (has to live up to Barry).

Lots of little subplots brewing, including what is obvious to be a large Xanatos Gambit by "the light".

After a (very) long hiatus, I have begun to write again. And this time, I'm not alone!

Well, at least one of those didn't exactly turn out okay.

Being killed by the Joker and then Superboy-punched back to life would make someone a little cranky.
