Holy moley!!! The BIG GOLD BELT is BACK!!!

What are the ramifications of THIS development?

EDIT: Boy, about 15 minutes ago, I just had a major knee jerk reaction (as evident by the title of this thread).
As each minute passes by, my mind keeps changing as to whether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing.

What are the ramifications of this RAW-exclusive, World Title?

I hate the name. I wish they'd change it.
I thought for sure it'd be the "People's Championship" when the Rock had it and Vinny changed it.

WOW, ANOTHER TITLE. Thank you very much, Vince!

So, the World Heavyweight Championship lives again, eh? So, what's the Undisputed Championship called now? The WWE Championship? *Sigh*

I give it six months before they're reunified. Trust me. That being said, it is pretty cool to see the title that's dated back to the 1900s [and the original NWA World Title) brought back. Heck, this way it's connected to the NWA, WCW & ECW. HISTORY! YEAH!

Freeway, not only will the belts be reunited, but considering who holds the two belts, who do YOU think will get to reunify them? I'll give you a hint, the match will end a rookie's very long streak of not being pinned, and the victor will have a big nose and a lot of muscle mass

Hmm, The big gold belt eh? Why not bring back the old WWF IC, tag and World belts while we are at it?

Oh, sorry about that. I forgot that in California and elsewhere beyond the Rocky Mountains, RAW airs at 9pm, like the East coast.

OOPS. :(

Hey, the belt is disputed. They strip titles in boxing all the time. Same deal, plus Raw is Nitro anyway, HA.

Maybe. But I gotta give him biiiiiiig props for doing the job tonight. There's another spoiler for the west coast.

Asteroid he did a nice job tonight. If I were an optimist, I would say it is building towards the RVD/Lesnar unification match at WM, after RVD takes the title from HHH at Royal Rumble, thus building 2 new stars and truly heralding a new era for WWE. But because I'm not, I think at some point HHH reclaims his job on PPV, leading to unifying the title over Lesnar (after a face turn), leading up to his defeating heel-turned Rock at WM. I could be wrong, but I rarely am.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me of Taker's job to Test in a tag match a few weeks ago.

Jury's still out, but they're morons if they don't pull the trigger on RVD's push this time.

This idea might seem a bit nonsensical, but why couldn't they have HHH defeat RVD to co-hold the World and IC titles (NOT unify them) to rub the new World's Championship, and then have the chase begin on HHH, to where down the line, in a feud HHH would have with RVD or someone else, Trips loses the IC Title, but remains a strong world champion?

Another thing-- however this is going to work out, they need to give major credibility to the belt by having HHH continue with good outings like tonight and retaining the belt against high profile wrestlers like Booker T at some point, Goldust on an edition of RAW (because Goldy's got some good face heat right now), and Jeff Hardy, while he's still got some of the heat from his matches against UT.

Yeah, that first paragraph makes no sense. You were right.

Unfortunately, I see Triple H spending a great deal of time on Raw, and judging by how he got himself there, I'm not too thrilled.

After the main event finish, and the way Bischoff has been getting rid of belts lately, I have a bad feeling we`ll see the IC Title absorbed into the Big Gold Belt.

But that would make little or no sense. It's like they decided in a meeting "Screw it, let's **** over ALL THE MIDCARDERS!" and Triple H laughed evilly.

Well, first off, welcome back, Big Gold Belt!

With that out of the way...

I don't see the I-C Title being absorbed into the WCW World Title. That's going quite a bit too far. The difference between the Intercontinental Title and the recently-defunct European and Hardcore Titles is that the I-C belt has been made to look like something worth fighting for. With the Euro Title, it was like, “Who gives a shit?” and the Hardcore Title's respectability was destroyed by over-use of the 24/7 rule. But the I-C Title has been on RAW main-events recently, and some tremendous, legendary battles have been fought over that belt. (WrestleMania X, of course, stands out in my mind.)

Actually, to be entirely honest, I thought that unifying the Hardcore Title into the I-C Title last week was quite pointless. Why have a six-minute battle royal the previous week to eliminate the 24/7 rule and have one champion if you're just gonna get rid of the belt the following week anyway? Besides, Tommy Dreamer was actually starting to bring some much-needed respectability to that title-- respectability the Hardcore Title hadn't known since RVD last held the belt. And prior to that, you probably have to go way back to Mick Foley to find an excellent Hardcore Champion.

But now we have two singles belts on each show, which is an improvement, and we have the tag-team belts on RAW. OK. Let's run with the two world champions storyline for at least a year-- let's not hot-shot and re-unify the belts yet again too soon. Maybe this will spell the return of the WCW brand, something that's been hinted at ever since Bischoff's return? That'd be cool to me and the other WCW marks out there, but Vince took a dump over the WCW brand almost since the day he bought it. How many WWE fans see WCW as a brand-name equal to WWE? Very few, I fear.

Interesting times... it's hard even to make an educated prediction about what will happen long-term. Short-term, however: at WWE Unforgiven, we'll see Brock retain the WWE Title against The Undertaker, and Triple H retain the WCW Title against RVD. I don't agree with the latter, but I don't see Triple H jobbing the belt to Rob Van Dam. (Even though I hope he will!)

I'm definitely with you on this one. Another good one would be Tommy Dreamer. He could work in nicely as a little psychotic. :)
