So goes another year down the drain. It's been a very interesting year for me having a baby and all. Certainly for wrestling it has been an interesting year. I was watching the review last night enjoying the King not yelling puppies every five seconds, and realized I actually enjoyed this year in wrestling. Off the top of my head I can think of a few moments...
Best heel turn was Trish Stratus, sexy, beautiful, bitchy - perfect attributes for a heel. She certainly makes a better heel than face.
Eugene, you either loved him or hated him, but in the end, he's still worthy of a smile. Me? I was ok with him, he had some pretty funny moments, but the gimmick is one dimensional. I'm thinking a head injury to make him uber-smart should be done. But that's just me.
Evolution, it was interesting to watch the dynamics of these guys over the course of the year. HHH's rise (or fall?) from a dominating powerhouse to a paranoid blubbering baby (which btw he looked hot doing). Orton's turn could have been a little slower but I thought it was well done. That boy could sit in a chair in the middle of the ring for two hours and I'd find it intriguing so I may not be the best judge of his actions.
Batista's turn looks to be even better. Him face, no. But him against the predator Hunter? Yes. He can squash Hunter and take his place as top heel.
Sean Michaels sick back flip off the top rope. That boy has issues. He looks good having issues, but he still has issues.
Lita and Kane...like watching a train wreck happen slowly - you can't look away and you can't help but cringe. But they are making a go of it and it's not like they were doing anything better anyway.
Mrs. Lita, hopefully some surgery and time off will do him good. He must be heel though, he doesn't play the face.
That's all I can come up with this Tuesday morning. What did it for you guys?
I think my very favourite individual moment of the year was right after Benoit won his championship title, & Eddie came out to celebrate with him. Don't know what it was about that, but it was so cool/sweet/nice/touching. (Probably they hate each other & it was all a work. :-) )
HHH & Flair have been wonderful: bringing up Orton, & positioning Batista for greatness. And you've gotta love HHH & Michaels' support of Benoit finally getting some legitimate love.
My overall take on the year is very much "Hot & Cold" -- really excellent, wonderful stuff one segment, & totally useless crap the next. This bimbo-diva nonsense, which continues to dribble across my TV, is just lame. (Eg. Psycho-Kane: excellent. Lita with Kane: eh. Gene Snitsky: blah.) Some of the ill-conceived & botched gimmicks & characters are just a waste of space. (Who the hell ever though that poor guy could carry off the Mordecai character??? That was just sad to watch.) We always have a certain amount of good:bad ratio -- just seems like this year, the good was really, really good, & the bad was much more (in quantity & uselessness) than usual. Tricky.
Debuting tonight, on Smackdown ... Josh Matthews as ring announcer! C'mon, he's paid a whole buncha dues dealing with Cat on Velocity -- the boy deserves a little Smackdown exposure. I thought he did a good job, actually. :-)
