The Yankees pick up Lance Berkman and Kerry Wood in last day trades, and don't seem to have had to give too much in return. Berkman will be good off the bench giving Texiera a rest, or as a lefty DH. Wood, to be honest I don't know how he's been since going to the AL so I can't be sure about what he will bring to the team. But, he can't be worse than Joba, right? Right?
This would've been quite the pair of deadline deals...in 2005. You'd think the Yankees could've found a more reliable arm than Wood, but it seems like several teams wanted hefty prices for their star relievers (Capps, Downs, etc.) whereas Cleveland just wanted Wood unloaded.
Berkman's numbers are slipping big-time and the fact that his numbers are so low away from Minute Maid Park has to be a concern.

The Mets are a blast to watch this year after starting out this way then becoming a complete horror show for months. Hopefully they didn't get too hot too early.
