In other news, someone from the 20 man league is going to end up drafting him

Welcome back, Vick. Don't fuck it up. A lot of people hate you for what you did.

I predict - the San Diego Chargers or Miami Dolphins will end up with him. This is based off of the David Boston principle. I can see him backing up LT at RB.

If you were serious about that last sentence, perhaps you should watch some more Michael Vick footage. He wouldn't last two years in the NFL at running back. His body can't handle that many hits, and he hasn't been trained to properly protect himself. Or to properly protect the ball, for that matter. Sure he's fast as hell but he's also really, really small for an NFL running back.

He was already a target for the other team's biggest hitters when he was scrambling free as a quarterback. If you put a guy that famous - that INfamous - in a position to be carrying or catching the ball 10-20 times a game, he's DONE.

Sounds likely, but for other reasons. Miami loves them some Wildcat, and San Diego's had success with LaDainian Tomlinson throwing it, so Vick would be another good weapon there.

But Miami has Ronnie Brown and Pat White, and San Diego already has, erm, LaDainian Tomlinson, so neither would need Vick. I'd wager some team that didn't do much with the Wildcat last year, but wants to dick around with it this season. So, as per this post by Pat Yasinskas (myespn.go.com), here's who John Clayton suggested MIGHT be interested: Bears, Lions, Bengals, Broncos, Raiders, Jaguars, Bills, Patriots and Cowboys.

So, basically, none of the usual suspects. I'd guess Cincy or New England; Cincinnati could use him in the backfield and as a backup once Carson Palmer's patella lands in the Cuyahoga, and the Pats already have the reputation of straightening out players with Vick's past. But neither one is that firm of a prediction.

EDIT: Yasinskas. Fuckin' A.

As long as Al Davis is still being wheeled around, the Raiders always have to be considered a possibility. I'd love to see the Browns sign him though so he can play in the dog pound. Did he and Mora get along in Atlanta, because if so, the Seahawks might be a possibility.

Mora already shot that down a few months ago, but that doesn't mean he can't change his mind.

Michael Vick SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. That's the point that everyone is forgetting in this. Sure, there are other crappy QBs out there, but this guy was a constant disappointment and hey, at least Cade Mcnown didn't run a dogfighting ring.

Vick never "sucked." He just never became the African-American Gentleman Quarterback Jesus that everybody thought/hoped/prayed he would be. If Michael Vick was a movie, he'd be Cloverfield. Massive hype, B- performance.

Addendum: I mean, just look at the Vikings now that Favre may be out of the picture. You have one quarterback who bootlegs left 85% of the time, and one quarterback who went ROFLcopter in his only memorable play ever. Even with two years of jail time on him, Vick could easily find a home there, and given the options may be starting by Week 7 (or 8...I don't know when their bye is.)

Wow, that's actually a really, really good comparison. I never understand it when people say Vick "sucks," other than to write it off to the fact that people like to say something sucks if they don't personally like it or if it's not the best thing EVER.

I mean, how much could a guy suck if he was the first visiting QB to ever win a playoff game in Green Bay, broke all sorts of records for combined rushing/passing by a QB, and made the Pro Bowl three times?

He broke combined rushing/passing records? Not being a dick, I just only remember him getting QB rushing records.

I think the "he sucks" thing probably comes about because his passing stats were (by NFL standards) pretty dire. That, plus he went through a spell where certain commentators were saying he was "OMG the best thing EVER" so you inevitably got a backlash from fans who go to the other extreme and say he couldn't pass water.

In reality he was an outstanding athlete and his all round production/success was at least above average I'd say. And he was a ton of fun to watch.

I'm guessing we'll see a few coaches test the water a la Belichick (sports.espn.go.com) by giving him some praise without declaring any interest to see how fans react.

I would have no objection to the Eagles going after him. Not sure how he'd fit into the QB depth chart with Kolb and AJ already there, but regardless of how lightweight he is he can't possibly be more useless as an RB than Lorenzo Booker was last year.

Besides, watching PETA protestors clashing with Philly fans could be kinda entertaining.

Key word there is combined rushing and passing. Broke them on the strength on his rush yardage. (I looked up his stats the other day, they were insane.)

Whoever signs him and uses him right has a huge weapon on their hands. They'll only need to have three or four packages for him, but just that will force teams to spend at least a half hour a day gameplanning against it, taking away time from the opposition's main scheme.

What and whose record, exactly, did he break? If he ran for 1000 yards, he would have to have passed for 4000 yards to break the record for yards passing in a season, which would equate to the record for yards rushing and passing for a season.

Mea Culpa, I was misinterpreting that. He was still the most dynamic rush/pass threat from QB, as subjective as that is, and I think the rest of my comment still stands.

For what it's worth, he does have two appearances in the NFL Record and Fact Book.

They are for Highest Average Rushing Gain, in a season, and Highest Average Rushing Gain in a Game (minimum 10 attempts). It's a little misleading to include a QB in these categories though. First of all, if a RB is caught behind the line of scrimmage, it's negative yardage. If a QB is caught behind the line of scrimmage, it's a sack and it doesn't count against a QB's rushing yards. Vick's 1000 yard rushing season is misleading because he was sacked 45 times (6th in the league that year) for 303 yards lost.

There's no denying Vick's incredibly talented in certain ways. Like Reggie Bush, I don't know if there's a way to harness that talent for the good of the team.

He shouldn't be a starting QB anywhere because his passing is quite bad. His highest completion percentage in any year was 56%. That ranked him 27 out of the 33 QBs who qualified. And like I said, he got sacked a lot.

Running back is possible, but he's not going to average 8 yards a carry at RB like he did at QB. We also don't know if he can hold up to the pounding a RB takes. His season high for rushes is 123, which puts him as a strictly change of pace back. Can he handle 150? 200? Can he catch the ball? Is he going to pass block? A RB who can't pass block might as well have an arrow pointing to himself when he comes into the game.

If he could catch the ball you might consider him at WR. But I doubt they're going to take the time to suddenly teach a 29 year old how to run routes.

I think at best you've got a QB to run the wildcat for you. But that means what, maybe 5 snaps a game?

Change of pace QB? If you don't have a really good QB, you could cycle him and Vick in and out and give defenses fits... but that kind of sounds like a Wildcat QB as is. Besides, what team would be in that position this season and happens to be a good fit for Vick? Can't think of anyone, besides Minnesoter, but they've had enough quarterback issues already.

I could see Belichick attempting to turn Vick into a Troy Brown jack of all trades type of player. It's could be a lot longer than people think before he is even ready to run an NFL offense as a QB.

Vick certainly took more than his fair share of sacks. Some of those came from ill-advised rushing attempts or rushing attempts that were sniffed out by a well-prepared defense that executed their game plan properly. However, I'd wager that a good bit of his sacks (most of them, maybe?) were due to the fact that Vick never had any wide receivers to pass to. I mean NEVER. The best WR we ever had in Atlanta for Vick was Peerless Price. Barf.

Give him the current crop of Atlanta receivers (Michael Jenkins, Roddy White, Harry Douglas, and Tony Gonzales at TE) and I doubt he'd have such a passing problem.

And speaking of Vick and the Patriots, looks like that's not happening. To get passed over in favor of Cleo Lemon... ouch!

Seems most likely. I don't know if any team would want to go with just two QBs plus Michael Vick, or two RBs plus Vick, but I'd be surprised if someone didn't take a chance on him as guy who can give them options in a number of spots.

I don't see him being an every down guy but it's not like he'll be looking for crazy money and he could easily be worked into 5-10 plays a game. The threat of what he could do alone would be enough to give defences something to worry about.

Longer term, he absolutely has the potential to be a starting QB if he can get back to what he was a few years ago. His completion rate was poor, but there's a few starting QBs out there who aren't going to post 3,500-4000 combined yards a in a season any time soon. And as StingArmy said, it's not like he had much to throw to at the Falcons (Alge Crumpler aside).

It would never happen, but the more I think about it the more I'd like to see him in Eagle green. Teams have enough trouble keeping track of Westbrook alone, so having McNabb, DeSean, Westy and Vick on the field at the same time would give D coordinators fits.

All of this, of course, is based on Vick still being in good shape though and only time will tell on that one.

I just saw on ProFootballTalk, they have a list of the teams who have stated that they have no interest in Michael Vick. We have 24 teams on the No list.
The teams who haven't made a public statement yet are the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Denver Broncos, the San Diego Chargers, the Green Bay Packers, the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Arizona Cardinals. Please don't respond to say how a classy team like "X" would never take a player like Michael Vick.
