The trailer is here! (youtu.be)

Wolverine is Kyle Reese! If there's one mutant to trust to send back in time to set the future right, of course it's Wolverine.

My memory might be bad but it looks like more footage than the Comic Con trailer. So are they going to film Halle Berry from the back or from the collar bones up because she was pregnant? While this was interesting to merge the 2 Universe, I kinda hoped the sequel to First Class would have Magneto wearing his purple costume with First Class style helmet but instead he doesn't wear any costume.

Didn't Rogue give up her powers in Last Stand?

I'm a little underwhelmed to be honest. I liked First Class because it felt younger and cooler, with the swinging 60's vibe. I'm glad Bryan Singer is back directing but his vision of the X-Men feels dated now. It's 13+ years old and so is his original cast. That's the point, of course, and he's depicting a dark future, but with Marvel Studio's movies out there, I feel like X-Men is the movie franchise that really needs an injection of fresh blood and a new visual palate. Jackman is jacked and looks great still as Wolverine, but I can't be the only one bored of the shiny steel X-basement, danger room, and the black leather suits. That whole visual scheme. Especially when Marvel is showing you can pull off good looking versions of the comic book costumes.

So I hope this is a great X-Men film, but I do also hope this is the last X-Men film in the Singer style. I'd love to see a reboot, recasting, and a younger, more colorful, more vibrant X-Universe in the movies. To me, Halle Berry Storm, Anna Paquin's version of Rogue, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey (if she appears), the lot of them, they really all can go. And if Jackman goes with them too, that's okay. He had an X-cellent run.

The last scene shows Magneto moving a chess piece with his powers, and the post-credit scene has Xavier waking up (admittedly in someone else's body).

And yet in the post-credits scene for The Wolverine Magneto has his full powers so maybe Rogue gets her full power back, too. What sucks is Singer won't bring Cyclops back because he supposedly died (even though no one saw him die but we all saw Xavier die) but he feels justified to bring Xavier back because of the post credit scene.

I did not know that.

I'm not mad to be spoiled. I'm surprised I hadn't heard by now.

Trailer breakdown by Bryan Singer. (empireonline.com) A lot of people on the internet were complaining about Wolverine's claws being Adamantium when X-Men Origins wasn't set in the 70s but Singer confirms they will be bone.

Loved it. I get the feeling a lot of X-3 crap will be wiped out which is fine. The trailer is more about the characters, the next one is the Sentinel one.

Could all of this be explained by saying the mutant cure in X3 was only temporary? Sounds better than lotjx's idea to wipe it away or ignore it.

They can't realy pretend X3 didn't happen because 1) Singer isn't bringing back Cyclops due to the events of X3, and 2) Ellen Page/Shadowcat was in X3 and she is in DOTFP so X3 happened... they are going to use her to send Wolverine back. What's weird is Trask was a black dude in X3 but Tyrion Lannister is Trask in DOTFP.

That would be cool. I feel they "killed" off Cyclops in X3 only because the actor wanted to go do Superman Returns with Bryan Singer and doing this would clear the way to push Hugh Jackman to the forefront of the Pheonix storyline.

This CBR piece (comicbookresources.com) does a good job addressing some of my issues with DOFP and the X-Men franchise as a whole. Add this to my grousing above.

Regardless, I'll be in line opening day with fingers crossed in an X for DOFP.

You don't want to see a reboot, though? That's my dream for the mutants: a total top to bottom reboot of the X-Men movie franchise. Everything that came before, gone. It won't be painless, losing Hugh Jackman, Academy Award winners Jennifer Lawrence and Anna Paquin, Sir Ian McKellan, Sir Patrick Stewart, etc. But they've done their service.

All-New, All-Different X-Men, like Giant Sized X-Men #1 said. Imagine if the franchise was actually about the school and the young mutants, all recast. If it was about mutants learning to cope with their powers and becoming heroes in a world that hates and fears them. Not always about Wolverine saving the day every time. (That's one reason I liked First Class: it was almost Wolverine free.) Not to say Wolverine shouldn't be there, but maybe not everything should be about him. What about Jean Grey recast to be young? Famke Janssen was 30 when she crushed James Bond between her legs, and that was 5 years before X-Men 1. What about a real Storm who's not a perpetually miscast Halle Berry, her Oscar aside? This franchise needs a youth (not a CW youth, mind you) injection and a completely new vision of the X-Men. Maybe someday. I mean, it'll have to happen eventually.

No. I love all the characters sans Marsden and Berry in their roles. They also got youthful with First Class, what next X-babies?

I found this four-day-old news (thefutoncritic.com) buried on The Futon Critic's archive page... *I* never gave the show much of a chance, but this info is certainly useful to some of you.
