God damn, I'm hyped about Def Jam Vendetta now.

Yeah, that was one heck of a commercial last night.

I think that a Def Jam Vendetta/WWE crossover would go over MUCH better than that Girls Gone Wild crap. Def Jam could send one of their artists over to take Cena's "rap challenge" at 'Mania to promote the game.

And from early reviews I've read, Vendetta uses the Aki wrestling game engine (N64's No Mercy) which is chock full of video game wrestling goodness. I can't WAIT for this one.

Yeah, this game might very well be the shit. I've heard some rumors about rather unrealistic finishing moves, though... hopefully that doesn't detract from the game. Tell you the truth, I can't remember the example I was given right now.

After seeing the commercials, you damn right there are some unrealistic finishing moves, but they looked damn cool so its alright. My only issue with this game is that it looks like every move has a certain button combination, like Attitude, as opposed to the grapply system used by No Mercy. A buddy of mine wants it so I'm gonna let him get it first and then decide.

I got the game this morning... AWESOME. Grappling system is exactly like No Mercy. Some unrealistic finishing moves, but as previously mentioned, they look god damn cool. The combos are combos of grapples and moves, and all it does is increase your special("Blazin") meter.

I'll be getting it in a couple of hours. I will post my impressions. Glad you are liking it so far.

I'm diggin' it, but some of the matches are hard as Hell... I started off with a pretty good record, now I'm at about 50% win percentage...

This game rocks. I can't wait for the sequel.

Oh yeah, and Briggs does the Vertebreaker for his front special, and a DragonRana as one of his turnbuckle moves. I love him.

Can you edit the wrestlers? I heard that you could in lieu of a CAW feature, similar to what is in place for WCW/NWO Revenge.

No, there's no editing of the wrestlers. Though many of them have multiple costumes. So now that I've beaten the game (with Briggs, I still have three other guys to beat it with to finish) here's what I think:

The good:

-Aki's wrestling engine is God. I love it so much, I want to marry it.
-Animations/Characters/moves look goood.
-The game is FUN!
-FINISHERS.
-Story mode isn't idiotic
-Galleries of all your girlfriends
-Did I mention it's fun?
-Upgrading your stats, and after certain stat levels are reached, all your moves are upgraded.
-Combos? Combos.
-The Momentum and Health meters rock.
-Ha ha! I countered your move. You countered my counter. I countered your counter! You're welcome.
-Getting your ass handed to you? Go play survival mode against some of the (hopefully) weaker foes and rake in the dough. More cash = more stat points.
-Multiple outfits? Yeah, that's pretty good.

The Bad:
-The Gamecube controller doesn't lend itself well to button mashing. I have a blister on my thumb, my two index fingers have frozen into hooks, and I may have broken my wrist. It was worth it, though.
-It looks like you can only take four guys through story mode. So if you max out their stats, all the other characters (when you load your profile) are left in the dust. But I've only beaten it once, so what do I know.
-Once you get out of 1v1, you don't get the upclose camera. Instead you get to see the match from the 12th row. Why didn't AKI just go with the raised 3rd row camera like in No Mercy?!?
-NORE beat the shit out of me. I hate NORE.
-I beat the game with Briggs, but I didn't have enough cash on hand to completely max out his stats. Now the game won't let me go through storymore with him again. I am sad. Maybe this will change after I beat it with the other three.
-No editing wrestlers
-No create a wrestler
-"X gonna give it ya" does not actually play during any matches. Instead, you get the music (no lyrics) from the chorus repeated over and over. What a ripoff. It does however play during the menus
-All songs are edited for content.
-Public Enemy sings songs. Do they fight? No. I'm a sad panda.
-Playing this game takes away from Zelda time. However, you can always stop and play Zelda to allow your mangled hands to heal.

So what can I say? This game is great. However, the shitty camera makes multiplayer not as fun as it could be. But I will definately be playing this for a long time to come, because even after beating the game I'll have to go through the thirty-some-odd characters and try every one of their specials.

The lack of an edit mode kills the replay value, sadly... BUT in the meantime WOOOOOOOO yeah.

I highly recommend playing the girls. It may feel a little odd taking on big giant scary dudes with skinny little girls, but their FINISHERS... oh, my, GOD. The ladies have some psychotic ones. (Even more so than the rest of the guys.)

Yes, the girls are awesome. God I love Tai. The 'One Night Stand' (back special) is killer.

Oh yeah, and one more thing to add to the bad list that I forgot about:

When you play the game, you do so using a User ID. However when you beat the game and unlock all the characters, it only unlocks those characters for that User ID. So if you want to play with three other friends, and have all the wrestlers for everybody, you have to beat the game with four different User IDs. ARGH. That's just plain idiotic.

I've just beat DMX, and then you get to a match where you have to fight three guys at once. I keep getting my ass handed to me. Anybody got any suggestions? The game has the helpful suggestion "learn to push the buttons faster," but that's no help at all. I tried going the guerilla route, but that does nothing with your special (er, "blazin'") meter. Should I go with the submission route? That seems the wisest method.

You used to be able to drag people out of the corner in No Mercy. Can you do that in DJV?

As far as I know there is no way to drag an opponent. For the handicap match, my advice is to only concentrate on one guy (easier said than done I know), building up your special until you can KO them. The submission route won't work because as soon as you lock one in, one of his buddies will probably break it up. Good luck.

Just keep running around outside of the ring to get them seperated. Then when one of 'em gets close, try to do a weak B grapple, or whatever is the most powerful that you think they won't reverse. After they go down, run away. Keep this up on all three of them (fastest way to build up your momentum) and then choose a person to hit with your finisher. Pockets is the weakest of the three, but I find he reverses a lot more than House, so I usually go after House.

Repeat (make sure to run away! Lose too much health, and you're screwed) until you manage to KO someone. BTW, in case you haven't found out, you can KO and submit people outside the ring. No pins though.

-Jag

If you get stuck, do Survival to earn cash, and then spend it in Story Mode. Also know this: Once you beat D-Mob you will never be able to use the character you did it with in Story Mode again (at least with that User ID). So be sure to do a lot of survival if you want to get your character's stats all the way up (which carries over to the other modes).

That's how I got past Method Man and Redman, making, I think, Meth submit outside the ring. Who pins, anyway? I don't think I've ever won a match by pin.

I did the survival mode once, and I think I'll end up doing it again and again to get Briggs all the way up. I've already maxed out his defense stat.

BTW, there are codes to unlock every wrestler in battle mode. I know they have them at http://www.gamefaqs.com.

My advice is to play the corner game... go around a corner and snag the first one to get close enough to you. Generally, you can manage two, sometimes even three grapples before they surround you.

I just got through that match, funnily enough, by submission. Briggs' counter move to the running strike is tha "Parental Advisory" (aka the sleeper hold. This is one of my favorite parts of the game - finding out what they're going to call all the moves.) I concentrated on Pockets, since he was the most distinctive visually (one of the hardest parts, I think, is trying to make sure you're focused on the right guy) and I just happened to hit him with that enough times and he submitted just before the other two were going to break it up. Whew.

I just got to the point where I've upgraded enough so that Briggs' moves got upgraded. I went to perform move X, and move Y happened instead, where cool(X) < cool(Y). I love that! Does the upgrade happen more than once, or is it just the one time?
