When Big Show pulled off the WWE shirt to reveal the ECW shirt, I felt like the biggest dummy in the world. Of course he's gonna switch sides. That's practically his alternate finisher.
If Rey and RVD were fighting again on Sunday, I'd buy the PPV just to see them get even more time. Great bit of work there. But why put the chair on Rey if he's gonna shove it off before the Five-Star? Were we not supposed to notice that?
Sabu showed a lot more energy than I expected, and Cena again stepped up with his promo. "Suicidal, dance recital" cracked me up. And Orton may have delivered his best promo last night. Edge showed that he's the most reliable RAW performer, as he worked through an apparent spinekiller to bust out the cool finshing move with Lita.
I dug this show a lot, except for Foley's monologue. It just didn't ring my bell.
"To be the man, you gotta beat demands." -- The Lovely Mrs. Tracker
I'll say it was Orton's best promo; what else would you call a promo that contains the line "I will cause the success of ECW to fail"? That is comedy gold, my friend.
Originally posted by Parts UnknownI just have one question: what should I expect from The Sandman? To me, he has the coolest name, look and gimmick of any ECW guy, and I keep thinking "OMG there's Sandman someone's gonna die~!!11" but he seems to do nothing.
Sandman is like the worst wrestler in the entire world. Everybody loves him because he drinks and smokes, and he has the coolest name, look and gimmick of any ECW guy, and oh, yeah, he hits people with a cane. But if you're expecting any more ringwise than you saw last night, you ain't gonna get it.
By the way, I think I've realized where the RVD-Cena match Sunday is going, and I don't think I've seen anyone else suggest this. RVD loses, but he loses via some ridiculous and obscene screwjob. It's a travesty of justice; the ECW fans are practically rushing the ring to kill Cena and whoever else was involved in the screwing. (It won't be principally Cena's fault, though -- that way he can continue to look like the sort-of babyface he is on Raw the next night.) So the next week on SciFi -- you guessed it -- Heyman awards RVD the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Maybe this won't happen, but I don't really see any other way to do it. You can't have the WWE title go to ECW, but you also can't not have RVD start off as the first (new) ECW champ.
I'm thinking the only good thing about Orton going to Raw is it paves the way for Evil Batista (since they would have to do Orton-Batista if they're on the same show). I had been thinking for a while that a monster heel Batista would be a great way to beat Rey. Of course, this was before, well, y'know. Still, I think it would be a great match, especially if they structure the match right so that it's always believable for Rey to win (unlike now, where even the matches he win are because a chair was brought in).

I was thinking the same thing about Foley's bit, and felt the same about Orton's. The trademark look he gives with the hands out and up (which he did after the RKO on Angle) I can hang with, but my ears bleed when he opens up his mouth.
I don't watch Smackdown often, if ever....but Tatanka? I thought he died awhile back. Also, when did Fit Finlay start wrestling again? Does that mean that Malenko is around the corner?
Could someone tell me who was on the ECW battle royale team besides Angle, Funk, Sandman, Dreamer, Mahoney, Snow, Credible, Guido, and Richards? Was it Tony Mamaluke?
Never make fun of a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. That way, you'll be a mile away, AND you'll have his shoes!
Finlay came back right around Wrestlemania. Tatanka came back before Angle switched over to SD from Raw when Eugene had his gold medal.
Malenko was supposed to face Benoit at ECW PPV but that fell through.
Anyone else not enamored with the PPV? I was going to buy it but I have decided against it.
www.oklafan.com Big Show: Why is he getting the Intercontinental Title shot and not me? RVD: Ahhh...maybe 'cause you're a tool. Big Show: Look. I am 7'2". I am 500 pounds. I'm a giant. RVD: Oh ok. You're a giant tool.

I think this will happen, too. Something like it at least.
My guess is that we get a Flair/Steamboat '93 finish (or the HBK/DBS "Man Bites Dog" finish) where both men's shoulders are to the ground and only one has his shoulders counted. Or they both submit at the same time. Or some weird crap that puts the title holder into question.
Being that it is an ECW PPV, and it's an ECW guy challenging for the WWE Title, I don't see them simply jobbing RVD and calling it a day. Of course, the WWE Title can't just go to ECW either, so they'll have to pull something.
EDIT: This was a pretty good special. The ending was a bit weak for me, and I've always found the idea of wrestlers wearing their organization's shirts as a sign of unity to be cheesey (at least, since the old nWo days. Back then it made sense since the nWo was more of a "gang").
The booking of Rey still baffles me, but I'll just keep up with how long he has the title rather than how many times he actually wins his matches. Screw it.
I would say RVD wins at the PPV but Cena's belt is the original lineage to the WWWF Title so that is out.

Considering that RVD was the great "champ that never was" in ECW, I really don't think they're going to just give him a belt out of charity or screwjob. They'll want him to free-and-clear win it, so he'll be the go-to champeen for ECW for awhile. My bet: Sabu wins, then feuds with RVD.

Fun show most of the way through. Even the buildup to Tazz v Lawler has been a lot of fun to watch, probably because the build to it has been so aweseomely Memphis. Plus Cena for one of the few times in his reign has had to carry the war of words on his back (as opposed to having JBL, Jericho, Angle, Edge or HHH to play off of) and has done swimmingly doing so.
I actually would buy the PPV if it didn't coincide with Game 2 of the Finals.
George Clooney, you been reading about all that? You been seeing that?
Here's another option: Click Here (wwe.com) So, they have the possibility of pulling a Rey 'defecting' to ECW angle.
Nobody is commenting on Nunzio/Little Guido returning to ECW, either. Where's the love?
I am looking forward to watching the weekly ECW show.

Too true. All I could think was "Ah, Giant joined the nWo!" He could just stand in the ring and continuously pull off brand/group shirts.
Where the hell has *that* RVD been for the last 4 or so years? I'm not sure how long that match was, but I want a rematch and with double the time. Ditto with Cena/Sabu. Was I the only one that loved the leg drop on the announce table, and then the follow up leg drop *off* of the announce table onto the floor? I love stuff like that. I like Crazy Mick a hell of a lot better than WWE Legend Mick, so his and Edge's match with Dreamer and Funk should be good. Loved the bit in the Battle Royale where Funk nailed Credible and Credible had to point to his shirt. Cena's best promo and best match to date. Wow. I won't get into the commentary(which was awesome), but I'm so looking forward to Taz returning to the ring it's not even funny. Hopefully we're all surprised and he comes out of retirement parttime. If you can't tell, I'm amped for this PPV and the new show next Tuesday.
Btw, my guess is that yeah, there's some screwjob ending to the RVD/Cena match and Cena keeps his belt. Then starting next Tuesday, there's a tournament to crown a new ECW champ. RVD, Sabu, Show, Angle, Dreamer...I dunno, maybe Sandman.
Just shooting off the top of my head, what if Angle causes RVD to lose? Mayhaps he goes on a rant where RVD is the *old* ECW and Kurt is the *new* ECW. Therefore, RVD doesn't deserve the gold. It gives both RVD and Angle something to do on tv and at future PPVs. Hell, have Show and Angle be buddies, going on about how they're going to clean up ECW. Mmmmm, Angle/Show vs. RVD/Sabu? I'd buy it. Ok, fantasy booking time is up.
If they go in that direction where RVD gets screwed out of the title, they need to absolutely hit the ball about 500 feet in execution of the angle. There's probably too much ECW hysteria to have that kill the territory before it even starts and there's a more-money-in-the-chase aspect with RVD that they haven't gone to yet. But what they're going to need to go with it is the mother of all hot angles lest the paying crowds loses it.
Example: On Xmas night 1982, it was Flair v Kerry Von Erich for the world title in a cage with a hometown referee in Dallas. Which is pretty much a similar situation to ONS where on paper there's no way in hell that the home babyface can do anything but win the title. Of course we all know what happened after that. And that's kinda half the point right there. It's been almost 25 years since that match and it's so remembered even now. They come up with something half that good and it's a win.
There was no title change but instead of the heel going over in the money match killing the town, it made WCCW the hottest territory in America. If they go that direction, ECW needs it some of that.

Speaking of that pose, I remember a recapper (don't remember who though) who pointed out that it looks like Orton is carrying a gigantic ball over his head. Now whenever he does it, I can't help but picture that, and it never fails to make me laugh.
In the real world, WWE believes that no matter what our race, religious creed or ethnic background in America, we all share the common bond of being Americans. American-Arabs are a part of the fabric of America, and they should be embraced by all of us.

That reminds me of my fave Bischoff quote ever:
"The Giant?! The Giant! No! No! No! No! No! Can't be! Naaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!"
Only WCW could bring you such top-notch announcing.
By the way, I'm glad somebody mentioned the Lawler-Tazz feud. I'm really enjoying it! It's been surprisingly well-crafted and performed. It's so intense -- they seem like they really hate each other. They should take whatever they're doing with that feud and apply it to others involving, you know, active wrestlers.
