With the abundance of hungry independent workers out there, many of whom could fit the WWE big-man mentality, why should the largest wrestling promotion in the states have to resort to such a tactic?

Because they'd rather take someone from scratch & build them up in the WWE style, and have control over their gimmicks & characters, than have to "deprogram" someone from the indy's & possibly not have rights to the indy guy's other gimmicks and/or characters.

I'm not gonna say that BFG is gonna be better than WM27 or anything like that, but a PPV can draw far fewer buys and much less people in the arena and still be a better PPV because it has better matches.
