Caught this one last night. This is always a fun show, since there's never really any other day of the year where we get good wrestling with clean finishes and no angles.

-The WWE Intro has changed, having removed Hulk Hogan. I can't believe they didn't do that sooner.
-Rey Mysterio & Mark Henry d. Carlito & CM Punk. MVP couldn't make the trip, I guess.
-R-Truth dresses as Santa and hands out presents with the Divas.
-The Miz d. John Morrison. Morrison still had the IC title. More on this later.
-John Cena d. Chris Jericho for the WWE Title. Yeah, Cena had the WWE title...but Chris Jericho did NOT have the tag titles.

A nice show, but one that left me with some questions. Considering this was obviously taped before the PPV, did Jericho forget his belts? Or were Sheamus and McIntyre winning at the PPV more of a last-minute decision than anyone thought?

Maybe he didn't feel like coming out with the tag titles in a singles match. Did Big Show come out with him? He can say Big Show was holding all of the belts for him.

Read it and weep, fella

Does anybody know if they have "dark matches" for these shows? I saw a few people in those "Hangin with the troops" montages that didnt have matches (like JTG, Chris Masters, MVP, off the top of my head).

I would have to assume. The length of the three matches last night were about 12 total minutes, plus the few minutes of the R-Truth stuff, so I doubt that's all that went on.

I read somewhere before the PPV that there was a line of "When I get my rematch" coming from Cena at one of the tapings. That seems to indicate it wasn't a last-minute decision, but was planned.

The special was taped before Cena and Morrison dropped their titles. The announcers talked about doing commentary from the WWE offices in Stamford, and there was a "taped several weeks ago" graphic aired repeatedly during the show. I don't think you can read anything into anything - the guys who were champions at the time had their belts, and Jericho being a tag champion was immaterial so he didn't need to have his belts with him. Besides, I assume you'd want to travel light if you're going to Iraq.

Video packages showed a lot of guys - Chris Masters, MVP, Cryme Tyme, Vince McMahon - who didn't make an appearance in the ring. The credits also listed "David Finlay" as talent coordinator, so I guess it's a safe bet that Finlay was there as an agent.

Due to safety concerns, they don't usually get a lot of time for the actual wrestling. I had heard that this year, they got their performance time cut at the last minute, and that a women's match had been scrapped from the card.

Noticed Hogan's being removed from the intro and replaced with Ted DiBiase. Very interesting. They should have put in Randy Savage or Ultimate Warrior instead to really get the internet all worked up.

They also replaced Foley falling off the cage with Jeff Hardy jumping off of something high onto someone below (I know, really narrows it down).

Speaking of the commentators announcing from CT, I'm watching it again and they showed Brigadere General Paul Wentz on the screen. I guess he's one of the guys that help set up the show? I dont know. Anywho, they show him and put his graphic on the screen, and Michael Cole pulled out him usual "I was talking to him a little bit before the show..." line. Uh-huh, right.

Even though they do the commentary in post, Cole usually DOES go overseas with the crew, so it's not entirely implausible.

I have no evidence he went THIS year, but you can see his blogs/videos from previous years with a little digging.

Was his name in the on-screen credits I wasn't really paying attention to?

Tribute to the Troops shows are fun because of the total clown matches. The business is gleefully exposed in the hot desert sun every year.

R-Truth as Santa Claus though? Michael Scott would be beside himself. That's worse than Phyllis as Santa.

This would make Orton.....wait for it; Kurt Angle. And hilariously, Orton used the Olympic Slam as a mid-match move for a bit.
