I'm as anti-Taker-winning-all-the-time as the next guy, but Batista/Taker is a GREAT pitch for a WrestleMania main event. If they work hard on the in-ring side of things it could be a boon for them.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Well I know UT has a lot of power in the back but I'm not sure that it's always 100% his fault. Some of it is just faulty booking. They do the same kind of thing with Kane. Like a few Smackdowns ago when Kennedy and MVP teamed up on him. But then at the end Kane got his revenge on MVP wasting whatever heat MVP had gotten and making the cage match the next week pointless. Unless Kane is also pushing his weight around in the back I just don't think the WWE knows how to book UT and Kane. I think the WWE still thinks it's 1990 and we still believe that UT and Kane are undead monsters who can't ever be hurt.

I do like the prospects of Batista/Taker though. When UT really wants to he can bust out a good match and I'm sure Wrestlemania, especially if it's the World Title match, is one that he'd try really hard.

In regards to Taker/Batista: Considering his track record, wouldn't you need to put Batista in a bubble for the next 4 months so that he doesn't have some sort of fluke injury that takes him out and destroys the booking plan?

I was thinking the same thing. They are going to have to have him wrestle squash matches or tag matches up untilt hen. I can totally see them having batista/UT build up as HUGE and then Batista tearing something. Of course, that would let the UT go over anyone else and keep his streak alive.

I think that Batista/Taker is the best big time match up for SD! at this point, but visions of the Taker/Sid snoozer from '97 keep dancing in my head.

However, they would be booking themselves into a corner. Taker doesn't need the belt, but Batista needs to go over him to be established as the top guy on SD!. There is not a bigger rub that could be given in wrestling right now than ending Taker's undefeated WM streak. But Batista may not be deserving of that kind of rub, because he could injure himself the next night and negate everything. If he doesn't get hurt sooner.

I agree that it should be Edge in that spot.

The main event of Wrestlemania III was Hogan vs. Andre, champion vs. the, ahem, unbeaten streak of the legendary giant. It stands to reason that, on the 20th anniversary in the same city, Vince would try to recreate that vibe with Undertaker (the legend with the perfect WM record) against one of the champions. Unlike in 1987, however, I think most fans would rather cheer for the legend. I'm of the mindset that Undertaker's streak should never be broken, especially not by the likes of Batista or Cena.

I'm fine with the match too, just as the match, but not the corner, as kentish said, it backs them into where either they waste ending the streak on a 40 year old, injury-prone, cold act Batista or the Undertaker winning the world title again.

It's not a bad match as far as it goes and I'm not as cynical about Batista's body breaking down as everyone. I mean. Edge and Orton went through stretches where they were getting injured frequently.

However, it doesn't exactly sell the show for me. I'm kinda hoping this one of those tentative "Orton will main event WM and win the title" type deals that never comes to fruition." It'll prolly depend if anyone catches fire over the next few months. This time 2 years ago no one was thinking Batista would main event against H and that caught fire so quick and turned into one of the bigger money matches of the last several years.

It is a problem that right now we don't have any terribly attractive WM programs brewing. I like the idea of Cena vs Hunter vs Shawn, as that's the only way we can get out of the DX angle.

Would Booker T holding onto the belt a little longer have really been that bad? It's a goofy act, and you can't really trot him out on Regis or something. He's just done so much with the gimmick it seems like a jip having him drop the belt this way.

For a show such as Smackdown which is now based on 'wrestling' and 'wrestlers' more than anything it's a shame to have UT/Batista headlining WM for the Smackdown side.

There's still enough time to put the full court press on a couple of guys to get them over on the Road to WrestleMania, but maybe this is just easier and that is all that matters.

Does this mean the end of "KING BOOKER"? I hope not, he's funny as hell.

Re: Batista/Taker at Mania...would Batista be willing to put over the Undertaker? I mean, his undefeated streak at Wrestlemania IS his legacy.

I am more inclined to believe that it will be Edge vs. HHH on the Raw side, with Trips going over as a face. I don't see HHH sharing the spotlight with Shawn again at Mania.

I would like to see Shawn in the match, just to improve the work rate a notch or two, but I don't think it will happen.

If we are talking about Taker getting one more run at the title, why not HBK, their most consistent in ring performer over the last few years (maybe ever)?

I thought the PPV was diappointing on the whole. The world title match ending with a babyface belt shot just seems silly to me. I think that Batista should be booked as a Goldberg-3-minute-destroyer more than ever now he has all these injuries. I'm not saying the main event should have been three minutes though.

Taker vs Batista could work really well- especially if they kept both of them as faces up unitl the match. I think Hogan vs Show is a cert to happen, sadly. I have a strange feeling we will see a Shawn & Vince on-the-same-side tag match too.

Well, the last 2 SD! title matches at Mania have not gone over 10 minutes, so this one should continue that tradition for the "B show" belt.

Griff, what makes you think Shawn and Vince will be tagging? Have I missed something in my channel surfing?

Yeah, that's a super-weird prediction.

If they're gonna do Batista/Taker, they should rest Taker for the next month or so and program Batista with Benoit and Finlay through to No Way Out. Get the guy back into decent ring shape, because as good as Taker is at carrying the OVW class of '02 I can't see him getting a watchable match out of Batista right now.

Also, CM Punk should-and maybe will-win the MITB match.
