Two minutes remaining in the Bob & Tom Show and we have a Countdown to WWE Superstars in the upper right corner.

Theme song is Invincible by.. some band I don't know.

Jim Ross and Todd Grisham on commentary. Apparently, our main event is Shane McMahon vs. Cody Rhodes. WTF? Undertaker vs Matt Hardy and Christian vs Finley are already announced yet Shane O'Mac and Cody Rhodes are supposed to be the highlight of the show?

Undertaker's music hits. Lots of fire but I didn't notice any brimstone. Grisham informs us that all 3 brands will be features on Superstars and JR refers to it as a massive all-star game.

Undertaker gets his full entrance with lots of fire (but no brimstone that I could see) whereas Matt comes out to several highlights of his recent stretcher match with his brother. The announcers inform us that this is Undertaker's first televised appearance since what JR refers to as arguably the greatest match in Wrestlemania history.

Hardy is tentative at first, with Undertaker poised in striking position. They lockup and Undertaker throws Hardy into the corner. Matt catches him with a kick but then eats a clothesline from 'Taker. The Dead Man signals for the chokeslam but Hardy rolls out of the ring. He grabs 'Taker by the feet and pulls him out of the ring, forearming him in the back. Hardy goes for an irish whip into the barrier but 'Taker reverses it. Back in the ring, 'Taker wrings Hardy's arm and yanks on it, setting him up for the Old School. VINTA..wait, wrong announcer. 'Taker clotheslines Hardy over the top rope and we go to commercial. If Josh Matthews & Matt Striker were commentating, I bet we'd here about how Matt Hardy already has 2 victories over The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar no longer existing be damned.

We get the usual group of commercials along with a commercial for The Wrestler on DVD this Tuesday.

We're back and I'm confused by the lack of a rest hold as 'Taker immediately proceeds with the leg drop from the apron. 'Taker goes for the pin but only gets two. Three headbutts to Hardy in the corner, then goozles him for a choke. The Phenom goes after the referee for daring to make a count during the choke. Hardy out of the corner but caught by the throat, chokeslam attempt by 'Taker but Hardy slips out and hits a swinging neckbreaker and begins punching Undertaker in the back of the head. Elbow by Hardy and then he drapes 'Taker over the second rope and then proceeds to choke him while pressing the top rope into the back of his head. Not sure how that would actually help, but Hardy's the veteran, not me. Missed clothesline by 'Taker followed by a kick to the gut by Hardy. Matt goes for a DDT but Undertaker lifts him up and sets him on the apron, two shots from 'Taker but Hardy hangs on, Undertaker goozles him but Hardy grabs 'Takers head and drops to the floor and catches 'Taker's throat across the top rope.

Hardy goes for the pin and gets two. Another elbow from Hardy and then he locks in a front chancery. 'Taker gets to his feet and lifts Hardy in the air but Hardy keeps ahold of 'Taker's head and also wraps his legs around 'Taker's torso. 'Taker finally slams Hardy into the corner for the break Right hand from Hardy which 'Taker returns. Another right from Hardy and then The Phenom irish whips him into the corner before charging into a back elbow. Hardy leaps off the second rope and catches a boot to the face and a 2 count for 'Taker. Both men to their feet. 'Taker hits the corner splash, then picks Hardy up and hits the Snake Eyes. Big boot from 'Taker followed by a leg drop but he only gets two. The Dead Man goes for the chokeslam but Hardy once again bails out of the ring.

“Matt Hardy deciding discretion is the better part of valor,” states JR. “Well, what would you do?” Grisham asks him. “I'd run all the way out of the building.”

Matt grabs a chair but drops it. JR mentions that he needs to be careful not to be counted out. Instead, he decides that that's an excellent idea and stands at the base of the ramp, staring 'Taker down while the referee counts to ten. Referee calls for the bell, but instead of 'Taker's music, we get Jeff Hardy's, followed by Jeff running down the ramp and attacking Matt. He slams his head of the barriers on both sides of the ramp but then Matt kicks him in the gut and rolls into the ring to escape, forgetting that 'Taker is still there. Matt turns around just in time to eat a chokeslam and 'Taker's music plays while Jeff makes his way back up the ramp.

Not a bad match. Nothing special, but I was surprised at how much offense Matt Hardy got in.

Up Next: Christian vs Finlay (w/ Hornswoggle)

Back from commercial and we have Josh Matthews & Matt Striker! Hooray, it's not just every superstar and every diva, we also get every announcer apparently.

Christian comes out first and Striker does a good job of selling ECW while Josh explains the Championship Chase.

Finley comes out with Hornswoggle (possibly for the last time thanks to the draft!) and we immediately go into action.

Lockup and Finley powers Christian into the corner. Finley with a forearm to the chest and then a European Uppercut. Irish whip and back elbow by Christian. Christian off the second rope with a sunset flip, Finley kicks out and then Christian gets distracted by Hornswoggle, leading to Finley kneeing him in the back, sending him flying between the ropes to the floor. The Irishman follows him out and whips him into the side of the ring. Back in the ring, Finley forearms Christian and then hits him with an odd neckbreaker/backbreaker combination. Rear chinlock and we have the first rest hold of the series! Christian tries to fight out with punches to the gut but Finley responds with a bodyslam then comes off the second rope only to catch a boot to the face by Christian. Both men are down and Striker informs us that Christian is The Pontiff of the Peepulation. Back to their feet and Christian takes over with punches and a backdrop, then drapes Finley over the second rope, leaps over the top rope to the floor and nails Finley with an uppercut. Christian hits a flying crossbody from the top but Finley allows momentum to reverse the pinfall for a near fall. Christian goes for the Killswitch but Finley breaks out and goes for the Celtic Cross which Christian also escapes. Christian goes to the top, fights Finley off with punches and kicks and then hits a Tornado DDT and gets a 2 count while Hornswoggle cheers on his father. Finley catches Christian and slams his shoulder into the ringpost, then goes for the Celtic Cross but Christian slips out and immediately hits the Killswitch for 3. Hornswoggle looks on heartbroken as Christian pulls out the first pinfall victory on the new show. Handshake of Honor after the match! Finley goes as if to hug Christian but ends up stepping back and patting him on the chest instead.

Again, nothing special but nothing bad, either.

Coming Up Next! Shane McMahon vs Cody Rhodes is our main event!

It's a good thing WCW is dead because I had the horrible realization that they would probably end up having someone job to The Money You Could Save By Switching To Geico.

We're back, now with Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole in the commentary table.

Backstage, Eve Torres is with Shane McMahon. Is Shane disappointed about not getting to face Orton? Absolutely, but now it's up to HHH to get the job done. But Shane realized that without Rhodes and Dibiase, Orton would never have been able to do the things he did to the McMahon family. So Shane's retribution starts tonight with Cody Rhodes.

Cody makes his entrance and I realize there is a little over 20 minutes left in the show. Please tell me we're not about to get a 20 minute match between Cody Rhodes and Shane McMahon. Michael Cole mentions that Orton and Dibiase were banned from the building and we head to commercials.

Amongst the normal slew of commercials, we get one for Golden Corral. I don't think I've ever seen a Golden Corral commercial and it's probably one of the premiere dining establishments in my backwater part of the sticks.

We're back with Cody stretching in the ring. Shane O'Mac's music hits and he comes out and does his... dance... The chyron lists Shane as Executive Vice-President which, while true, probably isn't the sort of thing you want to remind the shareholders of.

Trash talking before the match starts, then Shane shoves Cody as soon as the bell rings. Missed clothesline by Rhodes and a jab from Shane. I note that there are 17 minutes left in the broadcast. Shane dodges a couple of punches from Rhodes and then unloads on Cody. Rhodes lands a kick to the gut and forearm to the back. Shane with a clothesline, then an a couple of arm drags, followed by an armbar with his legs wrapped around Cody's torso. Cody gets to his feet as Shane wraps his legs around Cody's head, then Cody drags him to the ropes for the break.

Cody rolls to the floor. Shane goes for a baseball slide but Cody dodges and tries to slide back into the ring. Shane catches him by the feet and pulls him back to the floor, clubs him across the back and then slams him shoulder first into the ringpost. Several forearms to the shoulder and then Shane rolls Cody back into the ring and goes for a pin that only gets a 1 count. Shane with an armbar, then changes to a hammerlock and drops a few knees to the injured shoulder before switching back to the armbar. (Has Shane been taking lessons about ring psychology from Arn Anderson?) Cody rolls Shane over for a 1 count but Shane keeps the armbar locked in. Another rollup for one and then Cody finally breaks the armbar with knees to the back. Again, Cody immediately rolls to the floor. This time, Shane slides out from the other side and runs around with a diving clothesline off the steps. Shane comes up holding his own elbow and rolls Cody back into the ring for a 2 count. Back to the floor again and Cody slams Shane's head off the apron. Cody goes for... something.. but Shane reverses whatever it is and slams Cody shoulder first off the barrier. Shane lands more forearms to the injured shoulder and then throws Cody back into the ring. Up on the apron, Shane catches a punch to the face that stuns him, allowing Cody to simply run into him, sending Shane O'Mac flying off the apron and into the barrier just in time for commercial.

We're back and Cody has Shane in... some kind of resthold that involves pulling back on his arm while pulling on his face with one hand. Cody works on Shane's back with knees and stomps. Hard whip into the corner and then stomps on his head. Cody “shoots the half” according to Cole but only manages a 1 count. Cody continues working on Shane's back with kicks and a bodyslam, then stomps on his ribs and hits in him the back with a low dropkick. Rhodes goes for the pin but Shane kicks out at 2. Rhodes with a springboard stomp, then goes for a camel clutch. Shane struggles to his feet with Cody on his back and then slams him into the corner twice to break the hold. (I'm pretty sure the Camel Clutch doesn't continue to work once your opponent is on their feet, so I'm not sure why Cody held on so long once Shane was up.) Rhodes catches Shane in the face with a back elbow, then leaps off the second rope and hits a nice bulldog and a 2-count. Cody with more stomps to the back and face and a kneedrop to the head, followed by another 2 count. More punches, then Rhodes sets Shane on the top rope. He climbs up and lands a couple of punches to the face and then goes for a superplex. Shane fights out and knocks Rhodes to the floor. Shane with a double axe handle from the second rope but catches a dropkick to the gut. Rhodes goes for the pin but Shane kicks out. Rhodes rolls to the floor once again, grabs a chair and brings it back to the ring. Ref informs Cody that he'll be disqualified if he uses it and Cody yells “WHAT?” sounding like he truly wasn't aware of that fact. The ref takes the chair and throws it out of the ring. Rhodes lands several punches on Shane but the fifth one is blocked. Shane lands a couple of rights and then unleashes a barrage of what someone on this board aptly referred to as “Jello Punches” and kicks. Ref breaks it up and when Shane comes back in, Cody catches him and throws him through the ropes to the floor. Cody reaches over the top rope to pull Shane back in but catches a chair to the ribs. Ref calls for the bell as Shane comes back in the ring and hits another chairshot, this time to the back. A chairshot to the head sends Cody into the corner and Shane slides back to the outside. He digs under the ring and comes out with a trashcan. Shane places the trashcan between the ropes, in the corner, setting up for the Van Terminator. Or, as Jim Ross informs us, the Coast To Coast. Excellent camera angle hides the fact that Shane completely missed the move. Actually, a replay from the side shows us that Shane did in fact catch the trashcan with about 3 toes on one foot, failing to put the slightest dent in the can. Apparently, this whole deal was supposed to show us that Shane is a “hothead” who could get himself disqualified at Backlash, thus costing HHH the title.

Well, we got a 20 minute Shane McMahon vs Cody Rhodes match that wasn't horrible. That means it was at least 10x better than I was expecting. Maybe I'm just baffled by the fact that Shane put on a match that wasn't a spotfest (not even a single top rope flying elbow!) but I think I might have actually *liked* this match...

Overall, not a bad show at all. It was basically ECW with bigger names and probably slightly less recapping. If they continue on this trend, it could be a completely watchable show.

This is the show on WGN?

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Yes. I doubt guys like UT and Matt and Christian will be on it all the time. But it could be fun to see some mid card guys get some actual wrestling time. Especially if they have Raw vs. Smackdown wrestlers and so forth.

This was taped before or after the three-hour Raw. They were all wearing the same clothes that night and you could see all three announce tables setup from that Raw during Taker's entrance.

Nah. It's around 14 minutes for that one, 6 for the Christian/Finlay, and 10 for UT/Matt Hardy. Which, of course, is more in one hour than what TNA offers (on average) in two hours.

Actually, they taped the RAW match on Monday, then the ECW and SmackDown matches on Tuesday, and then spliced together. I believe they'll be taping SuperStars on whichever night they're not taping ECW from here on out.

I wasn't clear before, but I was (trying) to refer to the shots of the announcers.

Trust me, I'm so far out of the loop when it comes to tapings and whatnot, I won't try to pretend when the actual matches were taped.

Unless I'm missing something, those of us in the actual WGN Chicago viewing area don't get WGN America, unless you have a dish. But before I cue Alanis, it appears we're getting the show Sunday mornings at 11 here. IIRC, that's the old time slot for Bob Luce's old AWA satellite show here, back in the 70's...

Not quite the old show I remember with "Yukon" Moose Cholak, sponsored by Ben's Auto Sales, but I came up with this on a Google search:

It doesn't help people now, but I just noticed my DVR taped the 11pm Thursday replay, and Sunday noon replay, so people have many chances to catch it.

Wasn't there a WCW show specifically tailored for WGN in the early 90s?

I remember Jack Brickhouse doing wrap-arounds for it.
