Sorry, I'm watching a hockey game tonight, so I'm not going to have a chance to get to Smackdown until likely tomorrow. I get the feeling that the thread won't get made unless I make it though, so here it is if anyone wants to comment on what they saw tonight!

Haven't seen it yet, but I know Christian and Antonio Cesaro won qualifying matches to fill the last two spots in the Elimination Chamber. Inspired choices- particularly Cesaro!

An all nighter working on my online Intro to Computer Science course (step one toward my hopeful B.Sc degree) led to this: I've never been great at writing long form speeches, detailed diagnosis,or whatever so I figured I'd try by recapping Smackdown.

And here we go. Live via PVR at 3:45am from my living room in Edmonton, this is WWE Smackdonw!

Smackdown starts with an in-ring promo from the Shield, with Reigns and Ambrose almost getting into it. Rollins is the voice of reason. HHH comes in, Reigns goes eye to eye with him, and long story short: HHH books the Wyatts vs the Shield at Elimination Chamber. I may buy the PPV on that match alone.

Dolph Ziggler faces off against Antonio Cesaro for an open spot in the Elimination Chamber: Zeb Coulter's sign reads 'Illegals Make Me Ill and 'I Prefer "Aliens" from Mars'. A few near-falls at the start set the pace for the match, followed by a Fameasser (Famouser?) from Ziggler. A very fun match (as should be expected from these two) with some close calls. One of my favorite spots was Ziggler converting the Neutralizer into a DDT. Cesaro blocks a Zig Zag and then goes for the Cesaro Swing for six rotations. Neutralizer seals it, and Cesaro's going into the Chamber. Solid match.

Six man tag team match coming later: Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and Rey Mysterio vs. the Sheield.

A hype video for the WWE Network airs. I'm envious that you Americans get it first, but I'm sure there will be a way to get it using proxy servers and relatives with US billing addresses.

Fandango (with Summer Rae) vs. Xavier Woods ( with the Funkadactyls, and minus his moustache) is now. Pretty slow match for the most part. The crowd wasn't really into it but oddly, they got loud for the interaction between Emma and Summer Rae - Emma continued her #Emmalution and #Emmatainemnt signs with that dorky dance of hers. Summer broke her sign, so Emma brought out a new one. End comes when Xavier Woods gets crotched on the top turnbuckle, followed by a suplex backbreaker thing, and pinned him. After match, Fandango tries to punish Xavier further, but R-Truth (who was on commentary, not that anyone could really hear or understand him over the loudness of JBL) saves the day with a suplex into a Stunner move that looked pretty awesome. Everyone dance now!

After a commercial, we have Ryback and Curtis Axel vs the Prime Time Players, both in ring. Ryback and Curtis make very very quick work out them, with Axel getting the pin over Darren Young. Titus O'Neal never got tagged in. After the match, Titus gets pissed off an all up in Darren's grill, which was busted open. I suspect it was from Axel's finisher Darren Young says "We're a team, we're more than a team, we're like brothers. We're like family." Titus steals the mic from him, and says berates him, saying "Ever since I've partnered with you, that's the first time I've ever been known as a loser. I didn't come here to be a loser, I've been a winner my whole life." After, Titus drops him with a kick to the stomach, and beats the tar out of Young. Titus takes it outside, throws him into the guard rails a couple of times. A member of the crowd yells "Have a heart!" which I thought was hilarious. Darren Young is knocked out, and the audience is silent.

Michael Cole asks if JBL would have done the same to Ron Simmons, and JBL said Simmons was a former world champion, and there's no comparison.

Jake Roberts' Hall of Fame video airs.

Alexander Rusef has a promo. For those who don't watch NXT (you're doing yourselves a disservice, BTW) he's playing the stereotypical international brute: he doesn't speak English, he talks in a foreign language during his promos, and he has a mouthpiece. Im this case, it's Lana, who's screetching makes Vickie Guererro's voice sound like the strumming of a harp and a choir of angels. Anyhow, Lana says "Rusef hit, Rusef crush" where Rusef says that his legacy begins now. Lana has very manly hands, but still, this character is OLD. How often have we seen this before?

Christian vs. Jack Swagger of the final spot in the Chamber match. Christian got a fantastic reaction from the crowd but it died out pretty quickly. JBL invites Zeb Coulter to join commentary. A great spot at the beginning saw Swagger gorilla press and throw Christian right out the ring (over the turnbuckle I might add) but it was no sold by the commentary team, who were discussing why Coulter smacked Swagger on Monday. The issues with Truth's time on commentary persists now: one can hardly hear Coulter over Cole and JBL most of the time. Christian eventually finishes it with a frog splash after a sometimes slow but otherwise good match. Welcome back Christian, please don't get injured. Again. After match shenanigans see Coulter get pissed off and thows his jacket off but thats all we see. Christian's in the Elimination Chamber. But why? That's one of the most random additions I've ever seen. I'm not complaining, mind you.

Toronto may be known internationally for Rob Ford, but right now, we see Renee Young and Christian (both from around the way). Christian says that he doens't have many more opportunities coming his way, but he promises, at the Chamber, to be the most dangerous Christian anyone has ever seen. Insert your own joke here, but I think I could come up with something about the Westboro people here.

A summary of Kofi Kingstons' amazing leap from the Rumble, and a video about Damien Sandow's "trial by fire" is shown, leading up to Kingston vs. Sandow. I'm a huge Sandow fan, so I admit I'm not liking this losing streak. The last time I remember seeing this, the fans turned the Miz face. Anyhow, Sandow eats an SOS and gets pinned. Sando looks very disappointed afterward.

A video revolving around Batista and Brock Lesnar, and Leasnar's prompt destruction of the Rhodes brothers. A clip from the kayfabe HHH/Michael Cole video series airs afterward.

Cody Rhodes vs. Road Dogg is next, with Cody Rhodes and Goldust already in the ring. The NAO get a decent booing when they walk to the ring. The commentary team play up the brothers being devastated about losing the tag titles. Crowd is dead for most of the match. Odd spot: Cody rolled Dogg up and after the two count, Cody actually PUSHED Dogg off as opposed to Dogg kicking out. Rhodes broke out the old Hardcore Holly kick to the stomach as the opponant holds the ropes bit. End comes with CrossRhodes to Road Dogg. Post match scuffle sees Cody and Goldust on top.

The main event (Rey, Bryan, Sheamus vs the Shield) is next!

OK, I lied. A promo for the Network's Monday Night Wars series airs. The main event is next. The Shield are in the ring, and cut to the Wyatt family on the screen. I can never really understand the philosophical whatever babble that Bray Wyatt says. Oddly enough, Luke Harper has a voice and gets to say something, and even Erick Rowan gets the final word: RUN.

The Main event is NEXT. For reals, I hope And...indeed, we're on. The pop that the faces got was ELECTRIC. Oh lord, especially when Daniel Bryan came to the ring, with was CRAZY! Great sign at ringside: Flying Goat.

Highlights: Daniel Bryan chant throughout the match. Sheamus vs. Reigns is a match I look forward to seeing. Rey played the face in peril role as only he can. When Bryan was tagged in, the crowd exploded. Daniel did the Flying Goad (JBL's term) to both Ambrose and Rollins (one after another, that was cool) and Reigns did his Superman punch to Sheamus but promptly ate a top rope dropkick from Bryan for a two count. Brogue kick outside to Rollins, dime drop to Reigns, 619 to Rei...nope, he got up and ripped Mysterio in half with a vicious spear, and there's the win. That was a solid main event, with the expected finishers at the end. And we're out.

The Fandango suplex backbreaker thing was a Falcon Arrow, and it was nice. R-Truth's suplex stunner should be his finisher.

Rusef makes another in a long, long, long list of evil foreigners on SmackDown. It makes his gimmick weary from the get-go.

I can't remember a single Primetime Players tag match (even last night's because I'm old), but I remember them working against Cena on that very strange RAW. They can talk, and Titus has real presence. I have some optimism for these guys. But then I had hopes JTG would be a strong midcarder when Cryme Tyme split.

Are the Wyatts and Shield IN the Chamber? That would answer the question of what they do with the second Chamber match for that PPV.

I'm under the impression there's only one Chamber match, seeing as though they put merged the two World titles. Maybe I'm weird, but I'd love to see a curtain jerker Chamber for those in the hunt for actual screen time get a chance to shine. Zack Ryder, Yoshi Tatsu, JTG, Curt Hawkins, Ezekial Jackson, and Justin Gabriel all fighting for acknowledgement...but the match would be cancelled halfway when HHH comes down and starts asking who all these guys are.

OK, smarky fantasy booking over.

They wouldn't have to use the pods. Just fight in the Chamber.

So stoked that Cesaro is in the Chamber match, even if he doesn't have a shot in hell of winning.

Never tag in Rey during the climax of a match, he's now the WWE's littlest big jobber.

I totally get what Bray Wyatt talks about in his promo, maybe it's from spending enough time deciphering Raven promos in my youth but Luke Harper with the simple "You boys picked a beautiful hill to die on" was cool. Is that PG?

I just noticed that since she started showing up on the main shows, Emma w. Emma signs has been gradually moving from the cheap seats to the front seats each episode. I've been watching her since debuting on NXT and I know fans are gonna really dig her once her dance catches on.

Sign Guy was in attendance and telling The Shield to get back in the ring during the main event, until Reigns yells "Half time Break fool!" at him. The Shield v. WWE Sign Guy. Book it!

ONE
MORE
MATCH

I of course love the two Chamber entrants, even if I strongly suspect they actually qualified for the Smackdown Elimination Chamber for the World Title MITB with Fandango and Tyson Kidd. It's a nice byproduct of the Ryburial, since the Big Guy would've been easy heel fodder for this match a few jobs ago. If they were letting any ol' body in, it's too bad Dolph couldn't make it, and apparently he agrees based on the promo he did afterwards. That poor bastard has been mindboned.

Christian vs. Swagger was a reminder of the great chemistry they had in, oh my god, 2009, when Jack Swagger was a blue chip prospect with his whole life ahead of him.

Why are the Shield, the Rhodes, the Real Americans, the Prime Time Players, and Tons of Funk all breaking up at the same time?

I only watched the first segment and everything after the Wyatt promo on the Shield - which, goosenumps - but something occurred to me when Seth Rollins called Dean Ambrose "the most dominant United States champion I've ever seen." When is the last time we saw Dean Ambrose actually DEFEND the United States heavyweight championship?

Turns out, the answer is 96 DAYS ago on the Oct. 28th Monday Night Raw after Hell in the Cell, when he lost to Big E via DQ. He's wrestled in THREE singles matches since then and lost them all. (Two to Punk and one to Big E.) He hasn't defended the belt with a clean win since pinning Poor Dolph Ziggler on October 16th on Main Event.

I find it hard to believe with 24-33 hours or so of programming a month WWE can't fit in ONE Dean Ambrose title defense in there.

Why not? Just call it Wargames. Entrances alternate by team, only difference is instead of submission you have to eliminate each member of the opposing team to win.

There's your Wrestlemania pre-show match. Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Titus O'Neil & Broadus Clay vs Goldust, Antonio Cesaro, Darren Young & Tensai. The losers have to wear a Marty Jannetty shirt the next night on Raw.

It would be nice if WWE would actually keep tag-teams together for several years like the old days of The Road Warriors, The Steiner Brothers and Harlem Heat. But wait, all three of those teams spent much of that time in WCW, didn't they?

Ever since the Barbershop Window Incident, WWE seems to be looking for ways to break up tag-teams. I mean, does anybody really see Titus O'Neil as a breakout singles star?

The Shield is one of the most dominant stables WWE has ever seen, and they're fixing to break apart after only about 15 months together. That's a very small amount of time compared to The Four Horsemen.

They're afraid of letting things get stale, so they prefer instability.

ETA:

The Shield and The Wyatt Family should absolutely be a 3-on-3 Elimination Chamber match. The Chamber is right there, you only get this opportunity once a year, let's use it! 3-on-3 Elimination Chamber matches have been available in the video games for years, but have never been done in real life.

Anyway, I'll handicap each man's chance of winning the Elimination Chamber.

1. Randy Orton. Very likely to retain, because "WWE doesn't care about its fans", blah de blah. Orton vs. Batista for the World Title at WrestleMania has seemed like an inevitability since Batista first appeared on RAW, and that's probably where we're headed.

2. Daniel Bryan. On the other hand, Bryan is right there, and with Batista getting solidly booed, it makes sense to have WWE's de facto #1 face win the title here and defend it against Batista, whom The Authority tries to push as their new "Face of WWE".

3. John Cena. Also being a fan-favorite, at least with the kids, Cena would be a decent choice to win the championship, although we've already had a Cena/Batista WrestleMania main-event before.

4. Sheamus. Sheamus and Batista were in the Final Three at the Royal Rumble, and Vince is big on the hosses. It'd be an oddball choice, though.

5. Christian. I expect he'll get a few good spots in the Elimination Chamber, and might even score an elimination, but I sincerely doubt he'll main-event at WrestleMania.

6. Antonio Cesaro. The only one of the participants never to have won a world championship. I think he's a good candidate to win it someday, but the timing is not right at all here. Cesaro main-eventing at WrestleMania as his first-ever title defense? Against fellow de facto heel Batista? I don't think that'd be wise. Besides, he's like 0-75 against Randy Orton. But I think the fact that he's in this match is wonderful, and a sign that, yes, WWE does care about hard work. They just have trouble showing it, usually.

WarGames on the pre-show is more stupid than giving the hot tag titles away on the pre-show. I fucking love WarGames.
