Recap for SmackDown 3.19.2010, taped from Los Angeles, CA.

- We get a somber recap of Punk's GOLD promo from last week. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out on youtube - it would be a disservice to miss out on it.

- Rey comes out, ready to fight. He says he hasn't been getting any sleep due to Punk's actions. Apparently the solution is to challenge Punk to a streetfight at WM. Punk comes out but waits at the ramp. "You seem a little emotional, so I'll stay where I am." It's all about the little things. He offers Rey salvation while reiterating that he's a coward. He even has a slide show made because it's been such an emotional ride. Punk says that if Rey touches him before WM, their match is off. He says he can make Rey into a better father - if he can embrace Straight Edge. Rey says they're nothing alike - Punk agrees, because he's Straight Edge and thus better than him. Rey has had enough and offers Punk a choice - accept the match at WM or contend with Mysterio fighting him every day. Punk takes choice number 3 - if Mysterio can beat Luke Gallows tonight, the streetfight is on at WM. If Punk beats Rey at WM, he has to accept straight edge. Mysterio says he's gonna lay a beating on Punk that he will never forget.

Match 1: Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger over MVP and Matt Hardy via ZigZag on MVP in 6 minutes. A decent match, but the commercial killed the flow for me. Ziggler got to look good and also had a post match moment to shine when he set up the ladder and posed with the briefcase.

- Backstage Teddy Long is impressed by Drew McIntyre's "undefeated streak," so he books him in a match tonight with another man with an undefeated streak - The Undertaker. Drew correctly surmises that Vince wouldn't be ok with this, but Long says he can't get through to Vince so Drew is SOL.

Match 2: Beth Phoenix and Tiffany over Team LayCool via Glam Slam in 4 minutes . This match picked up once Beth got into the ring. That Slingshot suplex was a thing of beauty. Post match, Vickie demands an apology from Phoenix for putting her hands on her last week. She books Vickie v Beth next week.

- Edge is hosting the Cutting Edge, with guest Chris Jericho. Jericho comes down with Wade Barrett, and Edge comments that they look ready to head to prom. Edge calls their rivalry a game of chess between two master manipulators, thereby ripping off Michael Cole. Jericho says it is wrong to build their entire match around one move. Jericho alludes to an ankle injury and says that he might injure Edge's achilles tendon again and end his career. Edge says no one knows how injured he is, and there's only one way to find out. He implores Jericho to go for the checkmate, but Jericho doesn't budge, so Edge strikes him anyway. He fights off Barrett and SPEARS him, but eats a Codebreaker. Jericho stomps on his leg some more and poses to end the segment. Good stuff. Good for Barrett too.

Match 3: R-Truth and John Morrison over The Hart Dynasty via Lie Detector on Kidd in 2 minutes. Squashariffic - Truth's entrance was longer than this match.

- The stips are confusing for Punk/Rey, but this is what I think it is: if Gallows wins today, the match at WM is a normal match. If Rey wins today, it's a streetfight. That's simple enough. IF the match at WM is a normal match, and IF Rey loses that match, he has to join the SES. I think.

Match 4: Luke Gallows over Rey Mysterio via SES-ference in 9 minutes. Decent match. Mysterio is an old master at the big man/little man dynamic and they worked it well. Serena and Punk combined for the interference to give Gallows the win. Postmatch, Rey beats Gallows' ass six ways from Sunday as Punk just...watches. Classic.

Match 5: The Undertaker over Drew McIntyre via Tombstone Piledriver in 2 minutes. Yikes. So much for Drew getting to look good. I don't mind, honestly - I think the best thing about him is his entrance music. Post match, Shawn Michaels attacks Taker, and lands the Sweet Chin Music on him. He poses and we are done for the night.

- End Show.
Wrestling Counter: 23 minutes.
- The show does a decent job of advancing Rey/Punk and Edge/Jericho, and is generally ok. Nothing mind-blowing as such, but nothing that absolutely sucked. The booking at the end of the show was lazy, I thought. They were going to do the Michaels finish, then it could've been done without making McIntyre look like a chump.

I would agree, he's currently got the best entrance music of everyone...I am tryin to find his theme and create a ringtone out of it, right now I have Christian's "Don't Close Your Eyes".

Good show.

That song is "Broken Dreams" by Shamans Harvest. There's a video somewhere on Youtube that also has a link to a downloadable looped version of the song. Maybe that will help.

Yesterday I was thinking about the Drew McIntyre losing streak and came up with a new possible scenario for WM.

First I thought Christian should win MitB and cash in the same night against Edge ... which of course would turn him heel and would ruin Edge's WM moment.

But what about Drew McIntyre winning MitB, cashing in the same night ... just to LOSE to Edge or Cena!? Imagine Cena beating Batista in the main event and McIntyre coming in to cash in his shot. Everbody would think it's Elimination Chamber once again, where Batista screwed Cena, but no: Supercena beats Drew!

Christian (or The Miz) could still win at the MitB-PPV!

Yes, I'm back! I know, I said I would never ever watch that crap again, but ... I just can't live without it, I guess.

Smackdown is so many leagues beyond Raw, it almost embarrasses me for their sake to watch on Monday nights anymore. Jericho, Edge, C.M. Punk, McIntyre, Ziggler, Morrison... The wrestling is a lot better, and on top of that, the stories are more interesting.

I'm a big fan of Barrett, so seeing him get a chance to shine on one of the Big Two was great. He should take McIntyre's recent de-push as a cautionary tale, though... They're almost two horses of the same breed, and while WWE seems high on Barrett right now, he should count himself lucky that he has Jericho to tag along with whereas McIntyre is almost lost in the shuffle. But that won't last forever. He really needs to let his charisma, of which I'm confident he has a lot, shine through. That's the one area I feel like he has a one-up on Drew.

I was half-interested in the Punk/Mysterio feud for the past several weeks because while I think Punk is awesome sauce, Mysterio's bored me for years. However, after last night's show they have my full attention. If they book Mysterio to lose, Punk trying to initiate him in the ways of the SES is just the sort of thing that he needs to freshen his character up and make himself relevant again. That's one story that, barring draft separation, could take them all the way to Summerslam.

Holy hell has the WWE missed the boat on the Hart Dynasty. If they couldn't find a way to make them into a big deal with BRETfriggingHART in the same company, then I don't think they intend to ever go anywhere with them. I think it's just a countdown at this point until they go their own ways in the draft and try to get new solo gimmicks. I can truly only see Natalya winning from that scenario, but it's not like they're giving them anything at all to do right now. They could have very easily thrown them a bone and had Bret make a Smackdown appearance or four to give them the rub and make them a viable team, but my guess is that the WWE just doesn't think they've earned it.

I'm still absolutely hating the pairing of R-Truth and Morrison. But that's probably because I just can't stand R-Truth. In a perfect world, Morrison would have been in the MITB match and won so that he could get propelled up the card as a top face (or even better, heel). As it stands, I'm gonna guess Christian wins it, Edge wins the title, Christian turns heel and tries to cash his shot in on Edge in a couple weeks but fails, and then we have a fun feud between them for a while.

Good overall Smackdown. The tag match wasn't bad with 4 of out of the 9 MITB participants. At the end of the match, it looked like Dolph Ziggler was going to attack Swagger but was just did his shot of him winning the MITB.

The other tag match with Hart Dynasty facing Truth and Morrison was useless because The Hart Dynasty have become glorified jobbers at this point as to I can't remember the last time they got a win.

Luke Gallows and Rey Mysterio was a pretty good match and for a big man, Gallows isn't half-bad. I thought Rey would win this and have his stipulation of a street-fight but Serena would interfere costing Rey the match and the stipulation (I think Rey will win at WM but I think it would be nuts if he lost and was forced to join the SES.

The Undertaker match with Drew McIntyre was pretty much a squash and hopefully Vince doesn't change the record books yet again in keeping his prodigy undefeated. Not too surprised with HBK at the end as it was expected (nice little mock taunt from HBK impersonating the Undertaker).

As much as I loved Punk last week, this week meant so much more. It was awesome watching him and Serena just sit on the ring apron while Mysterio wailed on Gallows. They both looked shocked that Rey would do that. And the look on Rey's face - WAITING for Punk to join in - was excellent. And then Punk's slow walk to Gallow's all the while looking at Rey with shame and disgust and Rey slowly realizing what he has done, culminating in Punk resting Gallow's beaten head on his lap was just the best.

When Punk arrived in WWE, I really did not know too much about him since I do not follow Indy wrestling. I liked him as a face but did not see the hype over him. Ever since he turned heel and started SES, he has won me over so much that I have him on par with Jericho as the best heels in the business. Punk's mic work and ring work are excellent. The WWE should lock him up long term now because he is the future of the WWE. And if TNA had any brains, they would open up the vault to try to sign him away.

Life is hilariously cruel.

Considering Truth and Morrison are getting a title shot it's obvious who was going over but to squash The Hart Dynasty is a bit ridiculous.I'm not sure why it couldn't be a competitive match. They were booked like they were Techno Team 2000 or something. If they aren't getting pushed with Bret around gotta wonder if they ever get pushed as a tag team.

Smith has yet to develop. He is deadwood while Kidd flies all over the ring. There's only so much he can do to carry the team, no matter who they work against, and it doesn't help that they have worked against so few teams. They've been sidelined on SmackDown to the point that Natalya isn't involved in the women's title picture at all.

I think it's just WWE booking entropy. McIntyre is going to get a big win at Wrestlemania, so he can lose now.

Rey has been in half of the best feuds of the last year, so he's pretty relevant.

I like how they're buds. But Morrison is booked on the heel side of tag matches post-WM so I think their friendship will sadly end in tragedy.

Todd bringing up Edge, Cena, and the first MITB every week is weird since it makes the Batista bit at Elimination Chamber seem like a rerun.

Are they going to book the all-star women's tag on Raw or are the girls out of luck this year? Maybe they can all go watch the show at Kofi's house.
