- Ross and Tazz announce that it's Jeff/Trips/Edge for the title at Armageddon. The show opens with...
Match 1: Edge over Kung Fu-Naki in 1:37 via Spear. I love Funaki's entrance music. Funaki got in quite a few shots for such a basic squash.
- Post match, Vickie tells us to join her in a round of applause for OUR WWE champ, Edge. That's such a nice heel tactic. She announces a Gauntlet tag match for Trips and Jeff that ends only when they lose. Wonder how many tag teams are gonna get buried tonight.
Non-Title: Maria over Michelle McCool via rollup in 3:17. Maria tries hard, bless her, but she's just not very good. This was pretty sloppy anyway.
- Backstage, Maria hangs out with the Bella Twins and the Colon Brothers. Michelle comes out there to kick her. That's it. She lays in one kick and leaves. WTF? "That's gonna leave a stain," sayeth Carlito.
- Big Show gives a super-serious interview about what he's capable of, which is apparently only the KO punch. We know it's super-serious, because we only get Show's face in front of a blue background. The steel cage is "Big Show's environment." He hypes the match. Silly commentary aside, this was pretty effective.
- We hit the vault to find Edge v Batista v Undertaker for the Big Gold Belt from Armageddon 2007. It's the infamous multiple-Edges match. Shitty shenanigans notwithstanding, the finish is pretty hot. Michael Cole-ism of the night: "Edge is a Pittsburgh Steeler, stealing one in Pittsburgh!" Wow.
Match 3: Hurricane Helms over MVP in 3:56 via Shining Wizard. So, Helms is the Hurricane again, sans cape, mask, green hair, or cool music. Also, he gets to wear generic shorts. Sad. This match was okayish, but the botched finish wasn't cool.
- Backstage, Jeff Hardy (channeling the combined spirits of Heath Ledger's Joker, Black Reign, and the Powerpuff Girls in his face paint) is sick of Trips. Trips is sick of getting smacked in the head with chairs. And they're partners, up next!
Tag Team Gauntlet: Triple H and Jeff Hardy over Ryder and Hawkins in 1:16 via Pedigree and Swanton Bomb on Ryder. Hardy and Trips nearly come to blows, but The Miz and Morrison show up, leading to... The Miz and John Morrison over Triple H and Jeff Hardy via countout in 10:15. They had a nice match, advancing the story without squashing Miz and Morrison. Trips blows a fuse when Jeff wiped out both his opponents AND Trips. They go on and have a nice pull-apart, too.
- Backstage, Vickie and Edge bond over a plan well-executed. Jeff comes in and Edge tells him who to suspect for Survivor Series - Triple H. Trips is also summoned, which leads to another little brawl. Brilliant! Vickie did mention Trips and Hardy one-on-one next week.
Non-Title: Matt Hardy and Chavo Guerrero battled to a no-contest in 3:11 via Sportz Entertainment(tm) finish. Vlad makes his presence felt, killing this match dead. Vlad goes on to beat the living hell out of Matt. "You cost me title!" sayeth Vlad.
- Backstage, The Great Khali swallows some Listerine while preparing for the Kiss Cam.
Khali Kiss Cam: Khali's getting big face pops for this shit, actually. Ranjin breaks out the mistletoe. Khali rejects a few potential candidates, so Ranjin gives him Eve as a special holiday gift. Khali has to hold the mistletoe himself! He does finally plant a kiss on her. Not bad for Khali, I must say.
Cage Match: The Undertaker over Big Show in 15:43 via Hell's Gate. This was excellent, with the necessary big-match feel and a hot crowd to boot, outshining the catastrophic casket match easily.
- End Show.
Wrestling Counter: 39 minutes.
** A hot main event and the tag gauntlet make this a good show. However, MVP continues losing, and THE Brian Kendrick was nowhere to be seen. Me no like.

Well, I deduce from his flag that he's in India, and since it's now Saturday over there, and WWE says Smackdown airs at 4:30PM on Fridays in India (wwe.com) I reckon it ended about six hours ago for him.
Unfortunately, this means that unless we can rustle up some more users from other counties, there won't be much to talk about in this thread for at least another....seven hours, thirty-something minutes.

Fun show. Helms return was underwhelming, and the main event sucked, but everything else was decent.

I hated his look. The tattoo was fine, but his hair looked raggedy and his outfit was horrific. I usually don't care about how a wrestler looks, but he's going to have trouble getting over looking like a bum.

I'm glad to have the Hurricane back; he looks good and the match was entertaining. I quite liked the ending, with MVP ducking one shining wizard, only to get nailed with another.
Hurricane breaking out the oldschool "H" symbol was pretty cool, but he should drop the heelish beard look until he, you know, turns heel.

It seemed as if the cameras shied away from Helms's tattoo. What should have been a cool unveiling was instead a close-up on MVP, who was rocking a fantastic black-and-blue outfit. Is it ch 28, WRDC? If so, from my research, they're only setup to broadcast in 480i (4x3, not 16x9) so that's why the widescreen image is smooshed.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that WWE has, at any point (let alone now), cared whether The Hurricane gets over or not. And when he does get over, they have a tendency to sabotage him. Actually, I'm curious; maybe someone here knows this. To what extent does a wrestler have control over his/her in-ring "look," and to what extent is it controlled by WWE Creative? I always assumed that it was completely under company control, down to haircut, but maybe I'm wrong. | Mr. Boffo

Well there were always the stories about how they wanted say, Test and Christian to get haircuts when they were in WWE, and speculation that failure to do so had lead them to be buried. I don't know how true any of that was. | MUTigermask

I'd say it probably depends on who it is. Someone who has been around awhile like Helms probably has some imput into his character, while someone just starting with the company less so.
