What am I, the new resident reviewer? I watched SD! late last night and I thought someone would have this recap up by now. Personally, I prefer SD! to Raw because it has more of my favorite performers on it. Anyway...

The quick and dirty for WWE SmackDown! 11.28.08 from Albany, NY.

- The show kicks off with SD's resident power couple, and Edge saying he's back from hell. He says he woke up Sunday morning, saw an opportunity, and took advantage. He also says that Vickie's happiness is just as important to him as the title. Well, talk about a quick patch-up. Vickie blames Jeff for being an irresponsible idiot by falling off staircases, so he and his face paint interrupt, only to be held back by security. Oops. HHH and Vlady want some action too, so Vickie makes three beat-the-clock challenges for the number-one contendership. Vickie's probably the most over heel in wrestling right now.

Beat The Clock: Jeff Hardy over THE Brian Kendrick in 12:13 via Swanton Bomb. This looked like a squash to start with, but when THE Brian came to the party, it turned into quite the cracking contest. Jeff's lack of intensity was less than pleasing, though, as it never felt that he was in a beat-the-clock match.

*Side note: I read somewhere recently that the reason THE Brian's recent push has stalled somewhat is because he is repeatedly failing marijuana tests. I'm not sure how true this is, but if it is, THE Brian's gotta be one of the biggest boneheads out there. And I'm a huge fan of his.

- Elsewhere, Matt Hardy avoids questions about his upcoming match to insinuate that Vickie and Edge were behind Jeff's latest fall. He says he'll do his bit to make sure his bro gets what he deserves.

- There's a package for the Show/UT match from Survivor Series. Kudos to the production team for making that video in a way as to hide the suck that was that match. And a second viewing hasn't helped it any. Oh, and there's a cage match next week. They shouldn't have trouble topping the previous match, that's for sure.

Maryse, Victoria, and Natalya over Michelle McCool and the Bella Twins in about 4 mins when Maryse pinned Michelle with the Sex Pin (glorified rollup) after miscommunication. Post match, Michelle continues her slow-burn heel turn by arguing with the Twins. Maria runs down to calm her down, but gets pushed. See, this is just like girls - they poke their noses in other girls' fights. What's up with that? Maryse, though she needs more work in the ring, is coming into her own with her character. Me like.

Beat the Clock: Vladimir Kozlov and Matt Hardy battled to a draw as the clock expired at 12:13. Though Matt's stalling helped tell the story and established good psychology, it did not help the match. It was a better effort from Vlad, coming off his Survivor Series disaster.

- In the back, Jeff Hardy and Trips stare at each other.

Jesse and Festus over The Miz and John Morrison via DQ in about 5 mins. The match was only so-so, though I love the continuity in the ending, carrying over from last week. Post match, Miz and Morrison hit all-out-dick mode to fuck around with Festus and the bell. Jesse gets clocked, and COMEDY GOLD~ ensues until Miz screws up, allowing Festus to clean house. Fun all around.

- Backstage, Trips responds to Mr. Kennedy's(who's now a backstage interviewer?) exceedingly dumb question by not really answering it. Well, I'd do the same.

HHH over Shelton Benjamin in 12:13(exactly!) via Pedigree. The match was more an extended squash than anything else, as most of Shelton's offense came during the commercial. The psychology had me gripped, though, so I'll forgive that. After much discussion between Mike Chioda (who got KTFO!) and Lil Naitch, along with a wonderfully doctored video, it is decided that Jeff and Trips finished with the same time! Probably Trips/Jeff #123 next week cause Vickie doesn't want Edge defending in a triple-threat.

- End show.

Wrestling Counter: 45 minutes!

** See, TNA, this is wrestling. Wrestling companies put wrestling on their shows. Anyway, how often do you see three 12-minute matches in one show? This show delivered in the ring big time, and as a result I'll forget the fact that it committed the crime of not having MVP.

What a great show. I love the beat the clock matches - it gets me to watch the entire show instead of cueing to the main event. Perfectly played out too - I really thought HHH had it by just that much but it was just about perfect.

The post-match Mizzorrison's ring bell antics had be rolling. I haven't laughed out loud during wrestling in a while.

Trips/Jeff #123 next week cause Vickie doesn't want Edge defending in a triple-threat.

Vickie should just tell HHH he is SOL (and you know what that means) since he didn't actually beat the clock, which was the point of his match. It's called "Beat The Clock", not "Beat or Tie The Clock".

However, WWE.com already announced it will be a triple threat at the PPV, so there's your answer.

Really? They test for this? Doesn't the NBA even have a don't ask don't tell policy on this still?

WWE tests, but it's just a fine if you're caught with it in your system. So many are failing though they are going to start cracking down on it, so says Meltzer.

What Meltzer said was the WWE currently fines wrestlers an amount ($1,000?) for testing positive for marijuana on their drug tests, but it doesn't count as a strike. As everyone figured back when this was announced, some wrestlers just decided to treat this as a weed tax, keep on smoking and pay the fine when it came up.

Around the time of the last Europe trip, WWE got annoyed with the habitual fine-ees and told them to cut it out already, or face big penalties. Apparently, they decided not to wait, and scaled back to the pushes of those involved. Dave specifically did not name names, though he did mention Punk (and maybe DiBase?) weren't involved.

The (typical) way Dave left that info unspecific allows everyone to speculate and semi-attribute to Meltzer, but it'd just guess work and hazy at that. Like, it doesn't feel like Kendrick is any less pushed than he has been the whole way since the scramble, but one wonders about Santino, who lost his title quickly (and suddenly) on that tour, suffered the rare misfortune of his house show loses being brought up on TV, and was passed over in the IC Tournament to lose to a returning Goldust. But that's just a guess, and you can make a case for 40 people when the answer's probably like 3.

So, is MVP also part of this, or am I just blurring storyline here?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I could see a large portion of the roster getting dinged on this one. Maybe not 'habitually' dinged, but still.

I only hear what Meltzer says through this site, and I'm not sure how easy it is to obtain a prescription drug, but I'm assuming harder than it used to be. So you take a lot of guys with heavy travel schedules, aches and pains and add the fact that they are mostly young and I just see a lot of puff puff give going on here.

It's a real gray *hazy* area here that the WWE might want to clear up and maybe they are. I would just think that this would be a very low priority in this stage of the game.

IIRC Dave said it wasn't part of MVP's heat. I'm pretty sure R-Truth is one since one of Dave's hints was "just look at the SD spoilers and it should be clear" and that was the week he lost clean to Shelton and his big push seems like it's been cut off. Like Cubs said, I don't think Brian Kendrick has really diminished any.

No, I'm pretty sure MVP's heat is all about railing on the guy taking the piss samples. And a bit of storyline as CRZ pointed out the last time I vented on this.

On the positive side, he got to pin someone at the Survivor Series, so all is not lost.

So that officially counts as a win, so the losing streak gimmick is now over, right? Because it's not like Shelton Benjamin is actually doing anything with the US title. And Gregory "Hurrapop" Helms is showing up next week, and he'll need someone to feud with. I'm just sayin.

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

I would argue that Kendrick's push has been scaled back. He sure hasn't been headlining any PPVs recently. Also, Meltzer pointed out that one of the marijuana test failures had actually tested positive nine times, so that would indicate someone who's been around longer than R-Truth. But I'm just speculatin'.

Good lord, the Jesse/Festus vs. Miz/Morrison match was one of the funniest things I'd seen in ages; they all have great chemistry together, and the end was comic gold.

Miz/Morrison remind me so much of Edge and Christian, it'd be a treat to see those two teams out prank and out geek each other.
