wasn't any good! Continuing a trend.

I went in and out of this show, and felt like I was dumb for watching as much as I did.

Things you might need to know
- the main event of Survivor Series will be a (4v4) Survivor Series main even with a Team Cena versus a Team Authority. The idea is that no one would want to be on Team Cena because the Authority might be mad at them, despite the Authority really not outright acting that way since they fired Cody and/or Bad News Barrett got hurt. Kane is definitely no Barrett - he faced Dolph in a match teased as punishment for Dolph considering being on Team Cena, only Dolph ended up beating him.

I'm not convinced Dolph will end up on the team - they got to fill up the card somehow and pointless title matches appear to be the way - but based on this one alone, you'd guess Team Cena as Cena, Ambrose (destroyed Cesaro, who should probably not do any more magazine interviews), Dolph and perhaps Randy Orton. Orton didn't break up with the Authority totally, but appeared to have been frozen in time since RAW ended up last week and just now wanted his revenge on Rollins. HHH tried to keep them apart, but Orton gave Rollins a RKO to end the opening segment, then wasn't seen again.

Rollins figures to lead Team Authority, so they already did the Cena/Rollins match as the main event. It was a long main evented ended totally unsatisfactory DQ run-in by Kane. Related run-ins followed, and then unrelated run-ins by the entire locker room followed. This was an inexplicable way to end the show, but it appeared they knew they booked a lame ending and wanted to distract with chaos. It was fairly transparent.

- on the top of the hour, we got another "[evil person] tries to convince Cena to turn heel, but Cena won't ever do it" segment. I swear they're doing these every two month. Steph was good in this. HHH was awful.

- uh, what else? The Mark Henry turn on Big Show, built up all match, happened here. He's reset to House Of Pain Mark Henry mode. Ryback returned, apparently as a face, sqaushing Bo Dallas.

Roman Reigns did another pre-taped interview to remind you that he still exists. AJ & Alicia & Paige still exist as a thing. The Bellas feud existed just so the announcers could update the storyline (they seemed hopeless to do that on the other women's won.) Ambrose and Wyatt also did promos just to fill in non-subscribers on the events of HitC, and not really to advance anything. Hogan appeared to wrap up the pink month.

- no sign of Rusev. Or Harper and Rowan, whatever they're supposed to be up to. Nothing else in particular was set up for the next PPV, and they didn't even hint as to when Cena is getting his shot (so don't hold your breath for that to change.)

That's about it.

I was pretty much out after the Cesaro-Ambrose non match. I'm probably the fool for believing there would be a match, and I was actually thankful they gave me an out the Cowboys game was a much better watch.

Cena vs the stacked deck again.

Bo isn't a thing anymore, Ryback is again until he's not. He must be next on the Rusev list.

I feel like I might be stuck in a bad relationship with WWE, and I keep going back expecting things to change only to get the same crappy results.

Mostly watched the Simpsons marathon and Maddow tonight (F handegg), but watched RAW here and there.

The best part of the night was Randy Orton going full-on psycho at Rollins, and getting in an RKO (out of NOWHERE) before taking the night off. Looks like they're pulling the trigger on Orton's face turn, though I doubt he'll join Cena's team even if it means he'll get his hands on Rollins (maybe). The locker room clearing brawl gave some indication that it might be an actual tournament-style Survivor Series, so maybe Orton will be leading his own team of tweeners. Ryback, Mizdow and Double Dust maybe?

Speaking of Ryback, I guess it's good to see him back, and a babyface again, for now. He was much less interesting as a heel.

The Mark Henry turn made no sense at all. I suppose a 'hard tag' is a bit less stupid of a reason for two people to feud than spilled coffee, but only just.

The Bellas still suck. So does Cena. Why oh why did it have to be Bryan out with a neck injury and not Cena?

Apparently Ambrose has moved on from feuding with Rollins to feuding with Wyatt. I guess Rollins does have a long list of people who want his head (Cena, Orton, Reigns when he gets back), and at least with Ambrose and Wyatt feuding SOMEONE'S gotta pick up a victory. I just wish ol' Deano had been able to pick up so much as a single victory over Rollins, especially when Reigns did it his first try and with relative ease. It really makes me wish the WWE would abandon its no-blood policy, because these two would be ludicrous if they cut loose in a true Hardcore match. But that would make the Cenation cry, and we can't have that.

I really have to wonder why I bother watching this show anymore ...

STOP THE PRESSES! Randy Orton showed EMOTION! Not just furrowed brow 'emotion' but actual verbal, facial and physical emotion! This is the most interesting he's been since the old Randy News Network updates. Lets see how fast this dies out.

Did Paige always have a man voice?

This show is bad. BAD bad.
Hard to believe 7 months ago we were looking at a red hot company with some good feuds going into Wrestlemania.

This is what really has me more apathetic about the product than anything else. We're on nearly the 18th month of the most recent incarnation of the McMahon-Helmsley Regime and...yeah, they sure are still the top heels. And they sure aren't going anywhere. I mean, they seriously can't come up with something... ANYTHING more creative than this? I can't even get angry about it anymore. I'm just...weary. I'm exhausted. It's been the same crap for the better part of 15 years, which makes Hunter's promo about John Cena refusing to let go all that much more unintentionally hilarious.

I've always been under the assumption that I'd be in-and-out until the Rumble, but...really, the Rumble's a foregone conclusion at this point and there's nothing that indicates that the Wrestlemania plan is about to change. I mean, this is the time to get out, right? I can't see a single reason to keep watching, because there's literally nothing to get excited about anymore.

Not only has the Authority not really taken action to lead to the locker room to be scared of them but they don't even have enough people for a team, unless they do reconcile with Orton or Triple H puts on the wrestling gear. Their team is now just Seth Rollins and Kane, and if Kane is losing matches to ZIGGLER then he's like Cesaro level midcarder.

I suppose they could do an angle where they want the locker room to impress them but I'd be a lot more scared of the Authority if they already had a group of wrestlers doing their bidding. I suppose they could make Bray vs. Ambrose as part of this match but if they're going with a tortured guy vs. tortured guy angle then it doesn't make much sense for them to be competing in team matches.

Sheamus is going to be on Team Cena, right? He seems exactly like the type of bland choice they would make.

Agreed completely. Shows like this one are the reason I started doing the NXT recaps - the need to talk about something good, 'cause, man, we ain't getting that here. Hell in the Cell soured me badly on a product I was already pretty down on, and this show just kept the train rolling. I knew the finish to Rollins/Cena before the match started. Seriously, can anyone remember the last time a Rollins match had a clean ending? It must have happened, but I literally cannot remember a time when this was true. Even in story, I can't understand why HHH has so much faith in Rollins, when he loses so often via DQ and only wins when there's a virtual army behind him. At least Orton sometimes beats people. And the worst, worst part was that Rollins/Cena was actually very good. That bullshit finish spoiled an otherwise great 20 minutes of television. Finally, the mob at the end of the show doesn't make any sense. The Authority sent out the entire locker room to ... brawl with each other? Why? What was that supposed to accomplish? It's not even like they just sent 20 guys out to beat the crap out of Cena (which would have been pretty good, really). They just sent random guys out, possibly with the instructions, "kill time until we go off the air." How can the company have so much good stuff to work with, but deliver nothing worth watching?

USA is killing their golden goose with these three hour mandated shows, honestly. For me 8 and 9 tend to be The Originals and Sleepy Hollow but, even so, the show mostly gets Tivo'd but never watched since I just see 3 hours and know finding a time to watch all three hours is just a non-starter (it'd be the same with sports -- if I liked those. Three hours, with commercials, is just too much).

I just want Daniel Bryan or CM Punk to come back, honestly.

Yeah, I was thinking about this last night a bit. Trips is pissed at Randy right (over the "he wouldn't not RKO Seth) ? So if Randy is on the face team, maybe Trips puts on the boots.

I wonder if they have plans for Joey Mercury or Jamie Noble in this?

I would personally like to thank Gotham for taking me away from the first hour of this show. God, good are they really trying to turn Cena again when there is zero chance of that happening. I like the idea of the main event being a 4 on 4 Survivor Series match. What I don't like it, is month three of the Brock Lesnar reign and he has wrestled one match. This is stupid. Unless they bust him out for Team Authority which could maybe happen.

I think Big Daddy and most of us have to realize our relationship with the WWE is now at they are not into us. They like we bought the Network, but probably don't like us for dropping it after SummerSlam. They like when we talk about the show online, don't like that we don't go to the events. I am on the fence about the Rumble in Philly. This time ten years ago, I was all in and not even a flat tire and snowstorm stopped me that day. Now, its more about finances and if I can get time off as well as the kid. Even without two of those things, I may not go. Its just so boring and predictable, why bother. Even knowing that some fans feel that way, the WWE does not seem to care.

The company releases their Network numbers on Thursday. I bet the stock will go up even if the numbers are down. Because Wall Street works backwards in a lot of regards. Yet, I am not sure what there is to get excited about. Bryan, Wade and Reigns are on the bench. Ziggler, Miz and Sheamus are stuck in mid-card limbo. Orton turning face may help, but internet memes tend to die out in about two weeks. Cena is heading for Lesnar much to no one's surprise. Ambrose and Bray could have a great feud, but it feels like punishment for both of them. Rollins is great in his role, but can you imagine if he was the champ instead of some guy that HHH likes. I know I am not watching a lot, but it is weird to see the most faithful among us moving away when their biggest Fall PPV is coming up.

The fans were so ready to cheer on Ryback. It warmed the heart to see the big guy getting such a reaction, though he looked a wee bit smaller than when he left. If they kept him heel, the Goldberg chants were never going to stop.

When was the last time Dean Ambrose wrestled a match that ended in a straight up pinfall? Seriously.

Next Monday is November, so no more pink ropes and such. I know it's snarky to fault a company for supporting causes, but WWE always takes it too far and makes you hate them for it.

You know things are bad when they are in San Antonio and HBK won't even show up.

It would be funny if they did one of those locker room clearing brawls and somebody like Heath Slater is left in the ring standing tall with a "what do I do now?" expression.

Survivor Series was a no-brainer in 1998. This year...not so much. I haven't been to a live WWE show in several years, meaning I passed on stuff like the Rumble and Raw 1000. Part of it is financial, true, but if I REALLY want to go to a wrestling show, I'll usually find a way to do it.

Ryback seems to be the best challenger for Rusev, and I'd rather see him beat the Russian than Cena. Cena doesn't need the win. Ryback -- or anyone as a potential monster face -- does.

The first two matches with title-holders -- The Dust Brothers and AJ -- only used those champs to further someone else's feud. AJ was getting trashed by Alicia until she hit that nifty DDT reversal, and she won with a roll-up to lead to Paige clobbering her "punky woman" pal. So if Paige and Alicia are on their own, whither AJ? Does she become targeted by Indentured Twin Magic?

And the tag titles were right there for Henry and Show, and now they're at odds and not even heel Henry makes me care. He gave Show three WBSs. What's left to build up to? What spectacle can match that?

(And, again, they have ruined Big Show with the WMD. If you can KO someone with one punch, just go for the punch when the bell rings. If you can headbutt, you can punch. If you can chop in the corner, you can punch. Just punch.)

FIGHT THE FUTURE WHICH GOES THROUGH ME YET I SHALL INSTEAD GO THROUGH THE FUTURE WHICH YOU MUST FIGHT.

What the hell kind of Mellow Mushroom shirt was Orton wearing? Good to see him clear away the cobwebs for the first segment (and an ace sell of the RKO by Rollins). Now that guy's interesting. Orton/Rollins is interesting. Orton/Kane and Orton/Hunter is very not interesting.

A couple of interesting points from last night:

First, I'm really looking forward to when Mizdow and Miz attempt to return the favor and apply some "twin magic" to their next match with the Usos. You know it's coming.

Second, is that the first time in the recorded history of Raw that someone has left the building after the first segment and NOT returned at the end of the night?

Kinda like how Cena has ruined wrestling boots for me. Why lace up a big ol' pair of boots to hit the ring when the multi-time champion just throws on a pair of jogging shoes he picked up at Foot Locker?

Cena Sucks.

Insert the usual The Character Not The Guy/The Writing Actually Is What Sucks* caveats, etc., but watching that Cena/Steph/HHH segment and the "JOHN CENA IS STANDING TALL!" ending just underlined how much effort they put in on a minute-by-minute basis all to get a so-so reaction for John Cena: The Only Living Human Being Who Matters. It's staggering when you think about how time and money they put into this idea when they KNOW exactly what the ceiling for Cena's popularity both among their paying fans and the people they can't get to watch OR pay as long as they keep presenting him this way.

And when I say he sucks, I don't even mean as a performer. It's not about his matches, and it's not about what he's capable of doing on the mic (we've seen him, when pressed - think the night they lifted the two belts in the air for the unification ceremony - show that he's capable of more), but the guy as presented is a vampire, and keeping him at this level sucks the engery out of everyone and everything around him. He's already gone through the dessicated husks of Zack Ryder, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt, taken a huge sip out of Dean Ambrose and now seems to be eyeing up Dolph Ziggler. Sami Zayn's presumably been fitted for his straw, and I bet Itami looks nourishing.

This is just no way to run a TV show. There can't be anyone who honestly thinks the smart thing to do is recognize someone with growing popularity and think: how can we use this to get Cena over? And yet, it's happened again and again and again: someone gets over, Cena talks about how he respects them, Cena gets to claim whatever attribute was making them popular, they take on the aspects of Cena that makes him unpopular, then - if they managed to survie that - they get to wrestle Kane until they die.

As people have said above, literally the only story they have left is "Will Cena do the one thing, the only thing that would make him interesting again and turn heel? NO! NEVER!", so they keep doing it with fewer and shorter breaks in between. This is the third one this year and it's only October. Wyatt did it. Heyman did it. The Authority did it.

It's insane.

And it really is something that permeates the rest of the product. They are so tied into this mentality of getting people to love X no matter what the cost is that it seems to be the only way they operate. Kill the tag champs to launch a Big Show/Mark Henry feud nobody wants. Kill Cesaro to launch an Ambrose/Wyatt feud people would have loved a few months ago.

And then each of these feuds AND their matches will repeat for four weeks so that we can, what, watch those matches again at a PPV? Nah, man, I ain't paying for that. And I say that as someone who was actually paying for the product from April until this month and would have been cool paying for it moving forward if it wasn't this bad.

Anyway:
-Seth Rollins sold the best RKO ever. I like that guy.
-THE BIG GUY is back. Would have been cooler if Bo Dallas had been allowed to be a thing and crushing him would have mattered, but still, THE BIG GUY.
-Crazy Tweener Randy Orton is the Best Randy Orton.
-The Man Known As The Juggernaut is healing up. Good for The Juggernaut, which is what we all know Roman Reigns as. The ol' Juggernaut, Roman Reigns, that's what we always call him.
-Maybe Sheamus will finally say "Oi'll sell out!" and kick Cena in the face to turn heel and this will distract Cena long enough that someone else gets to beat Rusev, ideally THE BIG GUY. Rusev is the single guy on the roster who they're actually pushing in a smart, rational manner, so it'd be nice to go somewhere worthwhile with it.
-I mean, I still like Ambrose and Wyatt enough that I'd enjoy a blood feud between them, but it's just not as cool as it would have been before they both got Cena'd. And I'm over Bray's promos, too. But still, I like those guys.

My guess is, Vince accidentally leaned on the "Royal Rumble Go Home Show" button backstage.

*And it is the writing, of course, since this kind of misguided desperation of making THIS ONE GUY the only star that matters is exactly what we got around HHH from 2000-2001 and 2002-2006 and January-March of 2009, 2011 and 2012. I will accept the "Vince needs to go, HHH gets it" partyline to a certain degree, but if HHH still hasn't figured out that this kind of death march booking was awful when it was for him and is still awful now, he ain't as smart as he thinks we think he is.

The best summation of their utterly crummy long-term booking strategy I have ever read. They've turned their entire product into a meatgrinder for the ever-hungry monster that is the John Cena character. You keep on earning the 11 rating, Doc.

Why does Rusev have to lose? He should stay on his own little planet for as long as possible as he steadily chews through the roster. As soon as he loses he's just another guy on the roster. Have you seen the other guys on the roster. Rusev matches have become their own little mini event. I like that. Stop taking things I like away from me.

Randy Orton has to be a frontrunner for the Says the Best Things Off-Mic Award. Yesterday's entry: "I'LL CALM DOWN WHEN HE'S DEAD!"

Apart from the Ryback cameo it seemed the only time the show had any energy was the opening segment and the main event. Before the Sportz Entertainment Finish ruined it, that was quietly a better match than anything I saw at the PPV.

The cringeworthy Roman Reigns Exists! promo was better than the last cringeworthy Roman Reigns Exists! promo. At least he said something relevant to current storylines this time.

We should have more Paige on commentary.

Don't tell anyone, but I've been shamefully interested in watching Nikki Bella power through the other puny women on the roster while fighting the eternal struggle to keep her boobs inside her gear.

I skipped through a lot of this show to watch the suddenly resurgent Redskins, and I don't regret that decision one bit.

As always, I'm eagerly waiting for NXT.
