Alternate thread title:
"Why lies? And lies, why?"

We got a lot more movement on the Shield angle. I'll give The E this. They're showing TNA how to do an Aces & Eights style angle right, as we're getting random beatdowns, a threatening presence, a twisted motive, and guys that can actually work. Tonight, the Shield continued their beatdown of Hell No, attacking them after their match with the Prime Time Losers. This would not be their only appearance on the show.

CM Punk delivered an awesome opening promo and got interrupted by The Miz, of all people. Miz mouthed off to Punk, so Punk challenged him. Instead, Miz demanded Punk appear on Miz TV and take a lie detector test, so we could find out if he was really in league with the Shield. Um...why? Why does Miz care about this? Punk eventually agreed to this. Oh dear God...

Sheamus and John Cena won a tag match against Big Show and Dolph Ziggler, with the babyfaces delivering stereo finishers and both pinning their opponents at the same time. You know, it really doesn't get any more decisive than that, so why would I want to pay money to see these matches again? Well, you could argue for Sheamus/Show, but why would I subject myself to Cena/Dolph again? More on THIS later, too.

Vince arrived for his "Oh noes, the ratings are falling, I'd better show up" segment. He was out with Vickie, making me think they were about to pull the plug on Vickie Guerrero, Evil Authority Figure Part 3. No such luck. Instead, Vince bullied Vickie into booking Cena/Dolph in a Ladder Match with Dolph's briefcase on the line. Because Dolph hasn't looked like enough of a loser, I guess. Vince also bullies Vickie into making Ryback/Heyman for next week if it turns out that Punk's lying. And the Vickie Guerrero Reign of Terror carries on.

Brad Maddox showed up in Vickie's office wanting another shot at a contract. So Vickie booked him against a mystery opponent, who turned out to be Randy Orton. Orton squashed Maddox and killed him dead in about a minute. What is the point of this? But before you can even ask "What is the point of this?", the Shield attack Orton post-match and lay him out.

We have a good four-way match between Kofi, Truth, Barrett, and Cesaro. This started off as a tag match, but Teddy Long came out to make it a four-way. He has the power to do this, because...shut up, he does. We then got the weekly Rigged Raw Active poll, which determined that the U.S. title would be on the line. Great spots include the requisite Tower of Doom and Cesaro killing Kofi dead with the uppercut as Kofi bounced off the steel steps. Now logic dictates that since an actual title was on the line, the secondary champion couldn't job. Fortunately, there was another secondary champion available to job, so Cesaro pinned Kofi after the Neutralizer.

And God help us, here's our main event lie detector test. Punk and Miz just TORE into each other on the mic and I sensed a lot of ad-libbing here. Surprisingly, this is NOT as stupid as the Vince McMahon/Mr. America lie detector segment from back in the day. When Miz asks the big question (Is Punk involved with Brad Maddox and the Shield?), the Shield run in and destroy Miz. Hell No try to make the save and get beaten down, but Ryback helps the faces get the edge. Hell No run off the Shield, leaving Punk with Miz. Unfortunately, Punk forgets about The Ryback, who destroys him with chairs and a ladder. A powerbomb through a table will end this segment.

I'm really liking the Shield. I still like CM Punk. The rest of the show...has problems. But there was VERY little mention of the AJ/Cena/Vickie/Ziggler angle (one mention backstage with Vickie and Cena, as far as I can tell), as we seem to THANKFULLY be downplaying this angle in favor of a straight-up Cena/Dolph feud. Things are starting to look slightly up.

Until next time! Take us home, Scott Stanford!

So I'm gonna guess that Cena is gonna beat Dolph for the briefcase and challenge The Rock for the title at WM29 and I guess Ryberg wins the Royal Rumble and faces Big Show for the World heavyweight title. The Shield-Bryan and Kane feud should be fun and should lead to some awesome matches. I really like Shemaus as a in ring performer, but my goodness is his character so awful. I just can't see him being much of a draw as long as his character is such a goof. With a very competitive Giants-Washington game I could see the ratings tumbling from a 2.7 last week to a 2.5 this week. Man Miz is still pretty obnoxious even as a face. He needs to come off as more likable IMO.

It's still a MitB case for the title that The Rock won't have.

Carson < Ralphus

I like how Vickie nervously looked to and fro WHILE A FUCKING CAMERA WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER AND DOLPH FOR THE ENTIRE FUCKING BACKSTAGE SEGMENT - well, that is until she entered her office, where we cut to the OTHER camera (which means those segments were taped hours apart probably)

Speaking of, how about that awesome Tribute to the Troops promo where Miss Piggy and Flo Rida pretended they were in the same room when clearly THEIR segments were taped DAYS apart? Good times.

You could really see the seams tonight, and it wa'r'nt pretty.

Dolph's got nothing to worry about. He lost to Cena twice. Cena has proven himself to be decisively better so now he doesn't have to win on PPV. Cena will be up on the ladder with the case in his hand and Vickie will threaten to have AJ blown up or something and he'll have to climb down.

Now, why AJ had to go over Tamina before the PPV, that I don't know.

The Shield thought Maddox's circumstances were unfair. And the Shield, Maddox, and Punk are in cahoots.

That was quite the series of close-ups. I wonder who was giving them coverage and playing the roles of Flo Rida and Miss Piggy.

I had the most fun tonight Touting (hashtag)Sandow. I will say they were trollish in nature, though not dirty. Was taken aback by the amount of people reading some factoid off a screen in question form, so I asked Sandow why so many people were asking questions I could find the answers for on Wikipedia.

Then I asked if anyone asked him if something looked infected.

Then I asked if he could help with my finals, rescinded, and asked where to find the best sushi in New York.

Lastly, I asked if he knew what the Shield keeps in all those pockets in their vests.

Never got around to asking why Ryback sounds like he eats lit cigars.

Other than that, liking the tension that the Shield brings back to Monday nights. Thought it was kinda goofy they said Vince's being there was a rarity, since he's been around a few times the past few weeks.

There's only one reason that I can see for putting the World Heavyweight Championship on Cena, and that's if they decided to do a title unification match with the Rock at WrestleMania. It would definitely be a big-deal, once-in-a-lifetime thing, but it would also be pretty unnecessary. I know they're super reluctant to put anyone over Cena ever, but this is one case where they really should have Dolph sneak out a win. He's an up and coming talent, they've been putting him over strong on commentary, and the ladder presents the ability to have him get a win on Cena without actually beating him clean.

I am terrified of the aspect of a lot of the matches heading into Mania now that I have tickets for it. Miz should be the next person to feud with Punk not Ryback. Shield is just Shield at this moment and unless something major happens, I am not going to get too invested in this. I also don't understand why it would be a big deal prior to the Vince arrival if Punk is aligned with Shield. What does it matter? They are not going to strip Punk of the title or anything. Punk doesn't seem to care about the fans, so why would he care if they get screwed. A lot of it doesn't make sense. I understand they want to try to go with the NWO, who will join next, but its like if Hall and Nash appeared and interfered in all of Hogan's matches just to telegraph the surprise. If you want to surprise me, make it Cena as the leader of Shield.

Because they are running a storyline of who is in and who is out of Shield. We all know its Punk, so why go through all of this?

Vince making Vickie put Dolph's briefcase on the line is p. stupid when there are 2 Smackdowns and 1 Raw left before the PPV. What's to stop Dolph from cashing in before the PPV?

The Punk Day count in the title of the thread. Is that math right? Two weeks ago was Day 366. + 7 is Day 373. + 7 is Day 379? What? I'm no mathematician, but I know what 3 + 7 is.

Nothing. But Dolph is a heel without a proven track record of beating any top face main eventers. So unless Punk or Show, fellow heels, find themselves in a vulnerable position for Dolph to be an opportunist, he's not cashing it in before the PPV. Besides, he already clearly stated he wants to prove he can beat John Cena. This stuff isn't rocket science.

No reports of injury last night but AJ was never the same after the bump she took on her lower back from the top rope. She could barely stand. Tamina isn't good enough to cover up for AJ being injured; she mostly looked confused at what to do while AJ fought from underneath.

My favorite random part of RAW was The King discussing the Shield during the opening match and declaring about Seth Rollins "He's the one I trust the least!" He is?! What did Rollins ever do to the King? Is it because Rollins has two hair colors? Does King also mistrust Kaitlyn?

I was pleased Sandow increased the comedy in his Apprentice bit last night. He must have read my Tweet to him.

Wait, what? No, they aren't. Not one bit. There's been no intrigue about anyone joining Shield. It's been all about whether Punk is secretly using them to preserve his title reign and publicly denying affiliation, and what "injustice" the Shield sees that they've attacked Randy Orton and Team Hell No.

The ladder match has to end with AJ turning on Cena, right? She already had the Tamina match, and this is wrestling; women are turned to prove they're fickle. She has a built-in insanity defense.

Didn't Miz asked Punk last night during the lie detector test if it was his 379th day as champ, and Punk said that it was?

Dolph had a perfect chance last night after Ryback destroyed Punk. Besides, I'd rather be champ first and then later tackle the "proving I can beat Cena" issue. Also, a hell would never lie, so of course we should take him at his word.

Punk won the title on November 20, 2011, so he had 10 days as champ from November 21-30th, then 31 days in December 2011 to make it 41 days as champion for 2011.

From January 1 to December 2, that's 337 days (remember that 2012 had a leap day).

41 + 337 = 378, so last night's RAW was indeed the 379th day of the Punk title reign.

Fixed! Couldn't resist.

Miz is still an annoying ass on the mic. I think there are some people who can play both sides and those that are by default face or heel. Miz even playing up the crowd still comes across as a smug ass. Just like a Mysterio heel turn could never last I'm not sure The Miz face turn will have legs over the next few months.

Loved the Damien Sandow segment. Vince needs to go back into a coma. CM Punk stop making valid points that make this company look stupid for turning you.

Wrong title. Dolph's case is good only for the World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Big Show, unless they decide to change the rules. Which they won't, unless they give the case to Cena, and decide they'd rather have him be WWE champ.
