Live from Albany, NY.

There were two big pre-advertised segments for this show, so we'll start with those. The less offensive of those was the Nia Jax/Ronda Rousey contract signing, which was hosted by Stephanie McMahon (who must have sensed the heat she could siphon off the actual participants). Steph talked a lot, and tried to stir up shit, which was a general theme of the show, and eventually Nia Jax took the bait and talked some shit to Ronda. Rousey did her best mean mug (she's very good at mean mugging) and promised to break Nia's arm and take her title. Nia's promos have really gone down the drain; I used to think she had real potential when she was doing small backstage bits.

The other big segment was the one with Sami Zayn and Bobby Lashley's "sisters." This was...aggressively offensive? Horribly cringeworthy? Serving literally no purpose and helping no one? All of the above? I don't know, I've tried to wipe it from memory but it's not really working. Sami tried his best to raise it to at least mediocrity but that didn't work either. There were probably many ways to get across the idea that Sami's a lying bastard who's just trying to get under Lashley's skin...for reasons, but this was not one of them.

Okay, so the show wasn't all awful - there were some fun moments. The (extended) opening segment went almost the entire hour, first starting out as a confrontation between Reigns, Stephanie, and KO, then a Roman v KO match, and then morphed into a Roman/Rollins v KO/Jinder tag match. This was probably too long, and another transparent attempt to get Roman cheered by proxy, and I would much rather have had an IC Title match over this. The faces won, because of course they did, though Mahal got in his licks afterwards with a chair. Mahal v Roman was made official for MitB.

The main event between Strowman and Grinny Finn also came about as a result of Stephanie McMahon's shenanigans, apparently because she wasn't content with emasculating every single performer she shared the screen with and needed to leave more of a mark. The match was okay, maybe, despite Finn's best pinball act, though at no point did he ever look like he might win. There was a fun terminator moment (twitter.com) near the end, though. On a show lacking a definitive match of the night, this had a chance, but the extended beatdown before Finn got to his comeback really killed any momentum they might have generated. I don't understand why Braun Strowman is a face or why he gets cheered. Everything about him screams "bully" to me. How does a face act like this? (twitter.com) Also, can we get Braun a new finisher?

In other filler, Elias took credit for the WWE stock gaining record heights, and picked up a clean win over Bobby Roode. Alexa Bliss provided a history lesson about the Visigoths (!!), but lost to an impressive Ember Moon. Baron Corbin made quick work of No Way Jose, who seems rapidly to be going down the same road as Adam Rose. The B-Team picked up ANOTHER win, and Natalya qualified for the MitB by winning a four-way match against Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, and Dana Brooke. Chad Gable and Dolph Ziggler engaged in a contest of who could sell more, and Dolph walked away with a win. I waited for Drew to administer a post-match beatdown to set up a Jason Jordan save, but that didn't happen.

This wasn't a good show. Catch y'all tomorrow. In the meanwhile, don't be a dick to apples. (twitter.com).

That Lashley segment was bad. Really bad. Like "Let's show Fox the very worst we can do right before they commit to throwing a ton of money at our company" bad.

Seconded on both accounts. I'm not on the Braun train, and wonder about the face thing on a weekly basis. In addition to the GIF, he routinely includes a post-match beatdown on his fallen opponent. He did opt against that this week, but instead awkwardly propped Finn up in the corner?

Zayn's long, long, long promo in the ring last week in London was long. And weak. It hurts to watch a performer work so hard to sell bad material. This angle helps neither guy.

Probably because Braun's usually booked as the most competent, strongest person in the company.

He's a face because the crowd refused to boo him after his long stretch of awesome destructions of various people and things. So basically because they wanted to cheer a natural bad-ass asskicker. Sortof the reverse of Roman Reigns.
But it makes me happy that he hasn't suddenly reverted into a hugging type of guy right away.
He's still a big asshole who beats up people.
And you know in WWEW logic, heels always have the beatdowns coming. "Hahaha, You cannot trust this guy..look at him squirm. Face is right to take Heel's lifelihood"
as opposed to "What a terrible human being this heel is for doing what only makes sense and trying to stay ahead."

I'm all for badassery and asskickery, and I'm with you in that I appreciate he's not suddenly hugging babies because his alignment has changed. My problem is that Braun Strowman (the character) is a giant bully dickhole, and I'm not sure how WWE reconciles that guy being one of their top faces while at the same time propagating all this be-a-star nonsense. Like what's the message to the kids? "Hey, don't be a bully, UNLESS you're massive and can kick everyone's ass anyway, then it's okay"?

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
Even as faces Rock and Austin (and Randy Orton) were both giant bully dickholes and they did just fine as top face.

Actually the post match props from Braun were more facelike than 99% of the moments from those three guys.

Cena also had a stretch of crapping on people while being pushed as the all-american boyscout face.

I'm still wondering how in the world WWE expected us to treat Cena as the good guy when apparently he ran right to the front office demanding a title shot against Rey Mysterio the very same night Rey beat The Miz in a tournament final for the WWE Title.
