    I think at Superbrawl 97 they have a super...brawl.

Random thoughts on crap I've watched

Eddie Guerrero vs JBL at Judgement Day 2004 wasn't as fun to watch as I thought it would be. First just the sight of Eddie Guerrero jacked to the gills and full of bacne is sad/amazing. Then the total blood bath that ensues is just grizzly plus he takes a nasty chair shot or two ...

Speaking of chairshots, it's amazing what 10-15 years and a little knowledge about head injuries does when watching unprotected headshot after unprotected headshot. ECW is by far the worst, but the WWE was dishing them out like nobodies business as well.

Back to JBL, he isn't nearly as bad as I remember him being. JBL vs Sheamus would have been a fun little brawl.

Bad Announcing? Try Raw circa 1993, Macho Man is the strong one of the trio.

I've also watched a few In Your House PPV's. The ten man match at Canadian Stampede didn't hold up nearly as well as I was expecting, but the Fatal Fourway is totally worth watching and is better than I remember.

My random thoughts on crap I've watched (which has been precious little, still):

Rockin' Robin, the WWF Women's Champion, sang "America the Beautiful" at WrestleMania V. I hope someone advised her not to quit her day job.

Mankind's opening opponent for the WWF Title tournament at Survivor Series '98 was... hee, Dwayne Gill. And Vince did like a two-minute introduction, playing up how badass he was. Dude jumped at his own pyro explosion!

Oddly enough, I was just watching that show. It's a show I had fond memories of from when I was 12, but no so much now. It's cleverly constructed, but boy the in-ring portion of it was ass. The main event is probably the best match on the card, and it's not much more than a messy brawl. It's staggering to think that the roster at the time, though wildly charismatic, just didn't have the kind of top-to-bottom talent that the WWE roster of today has. Also, I think there were two clean finishes out of the ten or so matches on the PPV. Two! And one of them came in the aforementioned Dwayne Gill match.

It may be a generalization, but it seems like the bloomnis off the rose of the attitude era for many people.

Admittedly, many of those were teenagers then and not looking at stuff thru adult eyes.

Not for me, but I view the Attitude Era as just being different and a product of the times as opposed to being "better" than the current era of wrestling.

Random thoughts on crap I watched.

Legends of Wrestling has to be one of my favorite shows on the Network. Mean Gene hosts and their is a blunt honest round table discussion between a panel of former wrestlers and on-screen personalities about the past and future of the product. I can listen to Jim Ross talk about the business forever. Plus hearing guys like DDP and Micheal Hayes discuss partying with rockstars, or Jim Ross having uncomfortable meetings between Vince, an "in-character" crazed Brian Pillman, and himself are fantastic.

It irks me that swearing is still censored with parental controls off, but I can watch an ECW or WWE PPV without the black and white treatment when things get bloody. It shouldn't because I can figure out what is being muted but I should have nothing censored if I'm paying for it.

Notes on Over the Edge 1999:

The show opens with a graphic that reads:

In memory of
OWEN HART
May 7, 1965 - May 23, 1999
who accidentally passed away during this broadcast.

It shows a picture of Owen giving a thumbs-up with a Canadian flag in his hand.

After the Al Snow/Hardcore Holly match for the Hardcore Title, we go to Brisco and Patterson talking about Vince McMahon's (worked) ankle injury suffered that night on Heat against (of all people) Mideon.

I did not watch the original broadcast, so I'm piecing together the edits from what I can tell by Wikipedia, and the YouTube videos I've seen.

No graphic is shown for The Blue Blazer vs. Godfather. JR and Lawler are not shown speaking of the accident. Jeff Jarrett and Debra's interview (in which both performers, visibly shaken, started out by saying they were praying for Owen) isn't shown, either.

We go right to the Jarrett & Debra vs. Val Venis & Nicole Bass match.

I'm not sure when exactly, during the broadcast, JR informed the viewers that Owen had passed away. Presumably, that was edited out as well.

ETA: That's about as much of the event as I'm willing to watch right now, quite frankly.

Yeah, OTE really does not belong on this, IMO. It's not like there was just one terrible accident to take out. Everything after that is watching a bunch of grieving, traumatized people struggling to go through the motions. It's a pretty obscene experience. I'd've been more than willing to ditch the world title change to the sands of time to keep this one shelved. Oh well.

Good Kane-Pac vs. D'Lo & Mizark opener I never saw again though.

Agreed, JustinShapiro. Another obscene thing about Over the Edge was the very opening. We go right from an Owen Hart Memorial Graphic to a three-minute vignette narrated by The Undertaker about how he's the Lord of Darkness, the Purity of Evil, and how he's not only going to take Stone Cold's WWF Championship, but he's going to devour his soul.

ETA: So yeah, I'mma steer clear of OTE myself. Well, I may check out the WWF Title match for completionist purposes or something. In the meantime, I'm gonna look up the complete WWE pay-per-view history of some of my favorite performers like CM Punk, and catch their every match.

That is my regret about not getting the Network is I love the Legends Roundtable, I do think JR was a better host than Mean Gene, but its cool to see Gene still working.

I know Cleveland is where dreams go to die. Yet, tonight Cleveland, I need you to be at your best. I need you to remember every John Elway Playoff TD that eliminated you from the Super Bowl. I need you to remember all those Jordan wins. I need to you remember Art Moddell and him taking your Super Bowl winning team that bolted to Baltimore. Keep that hate bottled up and then when HHH or Orton or Cena or Batista makes some what is best for business speech just unload on him like he was Art Moddell or Jordan or Elway. Because tonight, its all up to you and as a great man once said " I believe, Essa, I believe." This Steel City kid believes in your ability to convey your vast disappointment in everything. I believe.

I wish I lived in Cleveland so that I could answer this call. This call for heroes. This call by a hero.

I've been a subscriber since the launch. They released an update (for the PS4 at least, other people using other devices can verify if they got a similar update) that now remembers where you were after you exit the app if you leave mid-program. A simple thing but very appreciated.

I started watching old WCW ppv's because I didn't know they were a company when I was growing up in NYC and I never got in to tape trading. These matches are unreal. It's amazing to have a whole new experience 25 years after the fact. It's refreshing to see guys like Steamboat and Rude presented as legit threats to the world title. This is old news for most, but the work rate was light years ahead of what most WWF guys were doing at the time.

I just watched Mean Mark (Undertaker) vs. Johnny Ace (John Laurinitis) at WCW Capital Combat 1990! 5 stars, no, 6!

XBox now has WCW and ECW PPVs which is a huge step in the right direction, but the purification floats and if you back out of your show you have to start over.

I just watched the War Games match from 1991. Sid almost murdered Brian Pillman with a powerbomb, Larry Zybysko sucks, and Rick Steiner no sold everything, but one of the better War Games matches.

Using the app on a PS3 now queues/remembers where you left out on a PPV. There was an update but I'm not sure what was updated and fixed besides that.

It will be nice when the website does that. I've been watching ECW Barely Legal one match at-a-time and it's a bitch to find the exact spot where I left off. They could also put markers in the progress bar for each match...that would be helpful.

So far IJ's favorite thing on WWE Network is the WWE Countdown shows. We watched the Top Ten Backstabs...other than Chris Jericho and Christian talking about the Paris Hilton sex tape (grooooooooooooooan) it was pretty great. Her immediately taking Andre the Giant's side against Hulk Hogan was pretty great. She also did not "get" Sunny AT ALL.

The Top Ten entrances was pretty good, too. But, WWE Network. I realize the "pause halfway and go back over the first half of the top ten" is a TV gimmick that is necessary for people who might have tuned in late, but the show is ON THE INTERNET. I didn't miss anything...I just paused it and walked away. You are wasting five minutes of time with that. Stop it now.

(Also, Barely Legal...not really awesome so far. The highlights for me have been Lance Storm's blonde rat tail and Francine hitting 102 on the radar gun. The Michinoku Pro match was pretty great for a bunch of spots in a row. And WHY HASN'T SOME TAG TEAM STOLEN TOTAL ELIMINATION AS A FINISHER? *looks at Los Matadores*)

DISCLAIMER: I'm only through the Shane Douglas/Pitbull 2 match.

Believe NXT's Ascension use it regularly. I think there's a TNA team that was/is using it, too (does TNA still do tag team wrestling?)

Yep. Now known as "The Fall of Man." Looks pretty sweet when hit just right, but other times doesn't look like it does anything at all.
