I still miss the WWF name, if WWE can't use the old initials because of legal reasons then they should refrain in using initials and just call themselves by their full name World Wrestling Federation, it's far better than WWE

I heartily agree. It will probably be years before I can say 'WWE' off the top of my head.

I don't have difficulty saying WWE to myself and to other WWE fans. It's just a real pain to say WWE to all of my other friends and family, because then they are all like "What are you talking about?? What the heck is WWE?" And then, they're all like,"Oh, don't you mean WWF?" Most of my friends are non-WWE/F fans, so I usually just call it the WWF to them, to avoid all of the cumbersome explanations.

My guess is that the World Wildlife Fund wouldn't like WWE calling itself World Wrestling Federation. Even if they didn't initial it, everyone else would. Ultimately, I don't think WWE wants to mess around anymore with this whole name thing.

The name change doesn't bother me, except for one thing...

The WWE should really approach the Wildlife Fund, and see if they can't iron out a deal where they can show the old WWF scratch logo and be able to use old audio clips of the word "WWF" on their video-tapes. It's horrible. They have this HYOOOOOGE library, and a big chunk of it is unusable because of the old WWF logo and name.

They should get a deal where they are allowed to use these on past video tapes.

I was going to comment on this earlier, but I kept forgetting, until just now.

Did anybody else on a recent episode of Smackdown, during the vintage Hogan footage (the one which ended with Hogan thanking Vince), Vince actually used the term "World Wrestling Federation?" It really kind of caught me off guard after having gotten so used to hearing WWE.

Just thought that was interesting.

Interesting replies, another horrible thing is that WWE are not allowed to sell videos of matches before May 6th 2002, the date the name changed which means WWE Backlash 2002 is the oldest video available and makes it impossible to find videos of too many memories.

*is glad he noticed his nearest WalMart selling old WWF videos for $2 each, so he got all the ones he didn't have before WWE Backlash 2002*

On a related topic, does anyone here have a copy of the Steve Austin WWE Raw magazine from a month or so ago? If so, check out the "Greatest Champions" article, go to the Hogan article, and look closely at the pic of Mean Gene interviewing Hogan after Hogan's first title win. You'll notice the OLD BLOCK LOGO is modified to look like a WWE block logo!

Anybody have any clue why they did that there?

I bought the new copy of RAW magazine. Normally a decent read, it was more of the kayfabe crap I see in the other WWE magazine.

What I found funny is on some (but not all) puctures, the old WWF logo was taken out, bnlocked, or whatever else. I love retro pictures...I really do, but this is ridiculous. IT's really hard to see a picture without ALL the details on it.

Professional wrestling is the only sport where participants are just thrown right into the audience, and no one in the crowd thinks anything unusual is happening. Hearing wrestlers say "the WWE" is the one thing that annoys me. Instead of saying "the WWE", why can't they just say "the Federation"?

Even if the company is called WWE, instead of actually using "WWE" in character, wrestlers could have used "the Federation" and have "Federation" as a standalone slogan used to refer to the entire company without it actually being in the name. The same WW scratch logo could still be used in branding. They could still say "World Wrestling Entertainment" when appropriate, but ultimately Raw and Smackdown would be divisions of "The Federation".

So you still have your federation, and you still have WWE.

Aw what do I know. I would rather see Gillberg than Goldberg.

I think to get "WWF" out of people's head, that they needed to do a hard sell with "WWE". If they had just gone to "The Federation", then nobody would ever stop calling it "WWF" because the name change would never come up.

Hopefully in a few years they'll realize that the name sucks, and they're full of shit if they really think that "We want the new name to represent the entire company, as we are more than a wrestling company and have a part in many different entertainment fields and yada yada yada" and go to something that isn't as retarded sounding as "WWE" like "The Super Fun Construction Factory"

ps. Seriously, try saying those two back to back and then tell me that WWE doesn't sound like the weirder one...

SOK, are talking about the old block logo, or the scratchy Attitude one? If the former, it's nice to know that someone else is wondering what the fuck is going on...

This is shitty...but...it also explains why my local Suncoast store had about half the WWF VHS's they normally carry. Can't the Fed sue for lost revenue, or are they screwed because of the court order? It seems to me that they coexisted for so many years without stepping on each others toes, it's hard for me to believe that the Fund had that much of a problem with the Fed.

UNITED WE STAND

Would it be possible for the WWE to sue to be able to use the logo and name in the DVD/tape, if they packaged the events with the WWE logo?

Dude, my local Suncoast used to have a shelf FULL of old WWF VHS's. Now there down to about five WWE VHS's. Sad.

My local MediaPlay has some DVDs of the old WWF Pay Per Views like some Royal Rumbles, Survivor Series 99, Invasion, and some really old ones from around 98 still. Come to think of it, I should snatch those up.
