I was reading at gohercentral.com that Vince is now thinking about buying the St. Louis Wrestling video tape library. Whats on their tapes library that he would want? Dosen't he have enough wrestling tape librars?
I've never seen any of the footage from St. Louis but the book by Larry Matysik about Sam Muchnick certainly makes the place sound very interesting. Maybe he wants it to shore up the NWA part of WWE 24/7? Perhaps it's just the novelty value of seeing wrestling in a hotel? I imagine it would come in handy if he has any plans of releasing a WWE Legends disc on Harley Race or Dusty Rhodes. Besides, you can never have too many tape libraries, can you?
St Louis had a pretty decent promotion back in the day, especially the early 80s, King Kong Brody, Ric Flair, Dick the Bruiser, Harley Race, Ted DiBiase, Lou Thesz, Dick Murdoch, Von Raschke, and Kevin, Kerry and David Von Erich to name a few, being involved in tons of good matches and great angles.
Also, there's a school of that says WWE is trying to buy up as much as they can while they can (especially now that business in general is on a downswing) so that they could theoretically launch a 24/7 cable channel at some point.

Until the early 80's, St. Louis/Central States was the center of the NWA; and actually wrestling, until the point where Crockett rose in prominence. This would be a sound business move on the part of Vince for 2 reasons. First, he shores up his own library, and second, this would be another library that would be unavailable should someone decide to pick up the chunks that are still out there. It is impressive that Vince has the WWF, AWA, Mid-Atlantic, Georgia, WCW, ECW and World Class libraries. However, if Jim Crockett had been a visionary and taken the tape libraries of territories he took over, the Florida and Mid South/UWF libraries would already be in Vince's possession. Instead, those two libraries are still available, along with the Memphis, the Poffo ICW, the IWA, Southwest Championship, the old California territory, Don Owens Pacific Northwest, and the Sheik's Detroit/Toronto. That still is alot of material still floating around. The Poffo ICW would be great if ever a Savage DVD were to come out, Florida, Memphis and the Mid South are great on their own, the Sheik's territory would be interesting, and SCW had alot of developing stars. I wouldn't be shocked that if Vince gets St. Louis, Pacific Northwest would be his next target. Lot of young Piper to choose from there.
Probably because Vince has more to gain than anybody else by buying the footage, whoever currently owns the footage has more to gain by selling the footage to Vince than anyone else, and the whole tape library is just sitting around collecting dust anyway.
Useless St. Louis trivia from wrestling-titles.com: St. Louis promoter Sam Muchnick was one of six founding members of the National Wrestling Alliance. Muchnick was also president of the NWA for 22 years (1950-1960 & 1963-1975). From a historical perspective, it makes sense that Vince would want the footage.
Since when did Vince buy the World Class library? It hasn't happened yet, and if anyone wants to suggest that it will, please reveal your source. Kevin Von Erich still doesn't want to sell, according to Meltzer and the LAW.
If I recall correctly, WWE bought the World Class tape librar around the time of Homecoming. The reason they invited Kevin Von Erich there in the first place was to discuss the possibility of selling the librar. Kevin sold the librar, and, to celebrate selling the librar, put Rob Conway in the claw, after selling the librar.

Nope. Everybody assumed that, but there's no truth to the rumors about that night. More than likely, it had to do with them being in Von Erich's area and it was meant to butter him up too. The library has not been bought yet. If something happened this past week and I didn't hear about it, then someone can correct me.

I thought they bought that librar. My bad. Maybe eventually Kevin will sell the librar.

I wondered the exact same thing until I eventually realized that everyone was probably doing it because of the title of this thread: >WWE getting more Tape librars?<
Why they did that ? I don't know.

I might be wrong but don't they keep them in their New York studio? I thought I heard that once but it would make sense for them to keep them in HQ in Connecticut as well.

If you would like to see a good list of the promotions that would have video available, check out the Kayfabe Memories message board.
There is always the Gulf Coast promotion, Central States (different from St. Louis), Tri-State and Indianapolis areas as well.
