I'm still in the discovery phase of the game, but I gotta say the computer's mucho acute sense of reversal (even on Easy) is bugging the hell out of me.
+ Better story mode involving the CAW's Sick looking bumps Evolution's theme song the RKO
- aforementionned reversal tendencies absence of Flair's current theme overabundance of lower-carders (I don't want nor need Jindrak & Cade on my game disc) Seemingly no alternate costumes Beefcake. See J&C comment.
Plus more I've yet to find out. Anyone else who's got the game, discuss.
First...I'm forced into joining Evolution (I would have joined anyway but at least give someone the choice)
Second...You see and wresle the same 4 or 5 guys throughout the year. Guess beuase they are missing so many active guys.
Third...Since they didn't add La Resistance or Dudley's The Bashams are tag champs of both RAW & SD! (lame!)
Forth...no choices to answering questions or situations that come up in story mode. SD! series asks you to pick a answer to a question or challenge. Even talk to the GM about a titel shot. This game you are just wrestling and every swerve or decision is forced upon you. What if I wanted to stay heel or face the entire time, not join Evolution or make my own faction like I could in SD! games.
This game sucks. I will play it with friends until Def Jam and SD! vs RAW comes out but never again one player.
Well, I was left with a decision yesterday at Best Buy with 50 dollars in my pocket. Day Of Reckoning or Madden 2005? I went with DOR for now, but I'll definitely get Madden next week.
Anywho if you feel like reading something, then here's Juggalo101's review of WWE Day of Reckoning for the Nintendo Gamecube.
-Gameplay: If you were a fan of No Mercy's weak & strong grapple system, you probably loved the return of it in WrestleMania XIX. No, it wasn't up to par with No Mercy, but still the same basis. The overall gameplay of a good ol' fashioned wrestling match is tremendous.
-Graphics: Terrific lighting is the first thing to mention. Player models are fairly accurate. The arenas are also detailed to their last features (The buried alive set & ambulance from Survivor Series 2003 is one thing to mention). Overall, nice graphics.
-Sound: I believe it's the first WWE game to have an actual soundtrack (apart from the Create Your Own Soundtrack on X-Box games). Soundtrack sounds fairly nice, but takes some time getting used to after hearing all those years of generic background music. Every wrestler (besides Stacy Keibler) has their own correct theme music. This includes Kane's Slow Chemical theme and Motorhead's Evolution theme.
-Value: If you're only looking for the abundance of match types found in the Smackdown series, then Day Of Reckoning will probably not be up to par to what you're expecting. The basic match types found in XIX (Hell In Cell, Cage, TLC, Table, Ladder, Hardcore, Royal Rumble, First Blood) are there along with the new Bra & Panties feature (that I will not play even with torture). The lack of superstars found in the roster is a pretty big downfall. The addition of Bret Hart always makes things better though. There are also complete move templates for Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar, Jeff Hardy, Hulk Hogan, and Mick Foley. So, when you add up the short roster, five legends, the move templates, and a very detailed Create-A-Wrestler, it's not so bad. The story mode is a big up from what was in WrestleMania XIX (which didn't even involve actual wrestling). The story mode this year is called "School of Hard Knocks." You take a created wrestler and start from house shows. You move your way up to dark matches, Sunday Night Heat, and then finally Raw or Smackdown. I haven't played enough to get bored of it yet, but so far it's not bad. Having the regular story mode found in the Smackdown series would have probably been a better choice.
Overall: If you have a Gamecube, I highly suggest you give it a try, whether that be rent or buy. Gameplay is really the standout for the game rather than the load of matchtypes. ...After all, hasn't Nintendo always been about Quality over Quantity? 8.9/10
I picked up this and Star Ocean 3 a few days ago. I had more fun creating a wrestler then actually playing it. Reversals are too cheesy, and I hate the way you do the finishers. But it is not bad at all. It will hold me over until Hell Month comes. Hell Month is the 30 day period where GTA: San Andreas, Raw vs Smackdown, Halo 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 is released. Hell for my wife cuz I won't be seeing much of her then.
