Well it was a feel good PPV with the right ending and the right people going over in every match. Foley is once again god and Randy can actually claim he is a legend killer. Only real downer was Edge v Kane match as Edge looks like he went on the HHH diet. This was Benoit's night and he sure deserved it. Way to go Chris and the whole WWE.
+ Orton into the thumb tacks...OUCH!!! + Shelton continuing his winning streak + Jerchio getting some revenge...when has he ever used an enzuguri for his finish other than tonight?!?
+ Fair womens match + Edge is back! + V1 Kicks of Heat preshow but loses. + Eugene! + SHAWN TAPING IN FRONT OF HUNTER!
Quick results:
1. Shelton pins Ric Flair after Clothesline from top.
2. Jonathan Coach pins Tajri after interference from Garrison Cade.
3. Chris Jericho pins Chrstian in a handicap match w/Trish.
4. Victoria pins Lita after a roll up.
5. Randy Orton pins Catus Jack/Mick Foley after a second RKO in Streetfight.
6. Hurricane/Rosey defeat La Resistence after interference from Eugene.
7. Edge pins Kane after spear.
8. Chris Benoit defeats Triple H and Shawn Micheals in a Tripple treat match after Shawn taps out.
Indeed. This was basically a 3 hour hard sell for Benoit and Orton. If this doesn't get the both of them more over than there is no hope. Basically a 2 match show but when those are the 2 than you cannot conceivably complain. Oh yeah, I guess Edge is still as average as I remember him too.
Originally posted by BWTEdge looks like he went on the HHH diet.
I dunno about that . . . yes, he's a little bigger, not alot, though . . . and he still moves fine. The problem is . . . and I don't know why . . . but he's not over at all right now. Again, I really don't get it.
Backlash 2004 - a great PPV! I was a little dissapointed in the Benjamin/Flair match - the ending seemed kinda out of nowhere, and as for Tajiri jobbing to coach . . .well, let's get real folks, it's not like WWE was ever gonna give Tajiri a serious push anwyay . . .
All that aside, I LOVED the Orton/Foley match, the Jericho/Christian + Trish match was done just about as perfectly as you could hope for and the main event was rockin', and had the right ending.
Wow, quality PPV again. Foley Orton, wow, they both pushed the envelope. Props to Orton for taking the tacks in the back and straight into his hand!
I marked out of my pants when Shawn put Benoit in the SS and Earl came out. He looked exactly like he did when he called for the bell in '97. I really wouldn't have minded if they ended it with another screwjob. I would have laughed my ass off. Although I'm sure Earl and Shawn could never show their face in Canada again.
They lived up to the match. Although the ending was anticlimactic as HHH didn't move his ass and break the hold!
Umm was the ONLY reason they had that LR vs Hurricane and Rosey match to get Eugene out there? I didn't remember it being on the card.
I'm happy with my purchase, but where does this take us from here? HHH is gone for a while, I can't see a one on one match with Shawn at the next PPV...so what's next?

As for Eugene - it was a necesary pallete cleanser, I think, or you may be right.
As for "not seeing a one on one match" next - are you NUTS? You DON'T want to see Benoit/HBK one on one?? lol j/k but seriously - why don't you see it happening?
After all, HBK can go all heel on us and claim that the only reason he tapped out to the sharpshooter was because HHH hit him in the back with the sledgehammer first. Bingo, feud continued!
Well, we have 6-7 weeks until Bad Blood. HHH could go and come back in that time. My guess is that HHH gets punked and we get a HUGE heel turn from HBK tomorrow night in Calgary.
A solid effort all round. Main event dragged just a little but was still great. Foley/Orton was some of the most brutal stuff I have ever seen, great match. Y2J/Chritian/Trish delivered the goods in a very entertaining match. Edge/Kane was disappoining mainly cause the crowd wasen't into it. The rest of the card was passable to mediocre. I dunno but I thought the Eugene stuff was very funny indeed. Was it just me or did anyone else hear Jack Dowan signal the beel by actually sayiing ''ding ding ding'''? The crowd sounded hot, but didn't ''look'' hot. Those idiots in the front row never once stood up so you could ''see''that the crowd was into it. If the front stands the front 20 rows have to stand.
Shelton Benjamin d. Ric Flair Okay match. Not as good as I had hoped, but not bad either. The Shelton push continues (Yay!)
Jonathan Coachman d. Tajiri I can't believe they actually tried to go with a straight match here. Pretty bad, but considering Coach was in there, it was actually above expectations.
Chris Jericho d. Christian & Trish Stratus Great match. I really hope this doesn't end the feud, because I've SOOOO enjoyed it.
Victoria d. Lita Sloppy as all hell. Lita looked terrible in there, and they should be grateful that Vince didn't decide to give Lita the belt. I mean, she was actually quite over. But once the bell rang, it was all down hill. Hey, when did Gail Kim come back?
Randy Orton d. Mick Foley SUPERB match. A great brawl, and definitley a match that we will remember for years to come. When Orton went into the thumbtacks, I damn near got sick. I just totally wasn't expecting it. I knew Foley would go in there, but not Orton. I mean, the guy wasn't even wearing a shirt for Christ's sake! Just sick, and a visual I'll never forget. Again, great match, and they did an excellent job putting Orton over here.
Hurricane & Rosey d. La Resistance Just a match used to let the fans catch their breaths. No heat, as was expected. Eugene made an appearance. Okay match.
Edge d. Kane Crowd was just DEAD at this point. Poor Edge. The fans were interested in anything but the match. Edge clonked Kane with his cast while the ref was down, and got the win.
Chris Benoit d. Triple H and Shawn Michaels Another SUPERB match. I didn't think it was as good as the 'Mania match, but it was pretty damn close! Like Orton, they did a GREAT job putting Benoit over here.
Overall, I'd give the show a thumbs up. A total two match show, but those two matches were SO damn good that this show earns all the praise in the world.
Now, who's ready for the Bradshaw PPV next month?
The answer to WWE's financial problems...
Never 'Wiener of the Day', and is actually quite bitter about it.
Geez, the crowd was DEAD for Edge/Kane. The fact that he can't get over - in his PPV return - in Canada - clinches it for me. Turn him heel and feed him to Shelton. Or Orton. Hell, feed him to Eugene for all I care. He's had a few hundred chances in his career to make the move from career midcarder to viable main event talent and every time nobody's bought it. Like BWT said, the "HHH diet" isn't helping either. I like the guy and he's good as a comedy midcarder, but please don't let this go any farther than that.

OK, I think that's a bit drastic. First of all, he's a *little* bit bigger, not a lot, and I didn't see it affecting his perfrmance at all. No big deal.
You are right though - he's not over, but that doesn't mean it's time to give up on the guy. I think it's that he no longer reeks of awesomeness anymore. Now, he "reeks of 2000." I don't know . . . he's gotta do something to get the crowds' attention.

First thing, he should've lost the "hair" match to Angle a couple of years ago. He looks kinda Jarrettish with the fluffy, long hair. Secondly, his offense sucks. He is still doing the same moves he did in the tag team. His spear looks weak compared to everyone who does it and nobody buys it as a knockout finisher. So if he can just come up with some better offense and a new look(like everyone else in the lower card)he can be a top guy.
Originally posted by Evil Antler GodWell, he got over originally by speaking.....he hasn't really gotten to say more than a sentence since his return. Two and two together.....
He's good on the mic, no doubt... but only if he's got someone good to play off of (Angle, Foley, et cetera) and on the Raw roster there's not too many people I'd want to see him both wrestle and work promo segments with. Who's on the heel side right now?
HHH? Probably leaving for Blade soon. HBK? Not a heel yet, and Benoit will probably have first crack at him. Flair? Possibly, but it'd be another feud with absolutely nothing in doubt. Christian? "Reeks of 2000" indeed. Orton? I hope not. Benjamin should go over Batista soon and set up the next PPV with Orton being the last member of Evolution he needs to beat. That leaves other midcarders (Test, Batista, the La Res members... A-Train maybe? None of those really pique my interest as 'wow' feuds.) The only plausible one might be Hardy. I'd watch that.

Yes, I thought I heard that as well at the start of one of the matches.
Actually one of my favorite lines from night was when JR was talking about Kane (I believe) and his size compared to the NFL athletes...King retorted "Do you want him to go play football now too?" Funny.
I enjoyed Backlash, if for nothing else but the Orton/Foley match and the main event. I thought Orton did a great job and showed a lot of guts to take the hardcore stuff--the tacks were sick. I was never on the Orton bandwagon before but this impressed me. Main event was good, the standing O for Benoit at the beginning gave me goosebumps and the Hebner run in/sharpshooter was a nice touch. All in all, two thumbs up.
"Because I’m a fan. Because I view this industry as an art form, and I have a deep appreciation for that art form because I’m not physically able and never have been and never will be physically able to do what they do in the ring. And even if I was physically able, I don’t think I have the balls to attempt it. It’s so dangerous. It’s so hard. It’s so intricate. It’s so difficult. It’s so taxing. I couldn’t do it. And I have enormous respect and admiration for those who do, let alone do it well."
HOT crowd for most of the night. The main was played out perfectly, and the crowd ate every minute of it up. So does Michaels finally have redemption for Bret Hart with this match?
(Naah.)
Not much more can be said of the Foley/Orton match. I couldn't believe Orton took the tacks bareback full-on. Great match, but can we now have Orton move on and put some focus on defending his I-C title? I think he has the potential to as remembered as Rick Rude or Honky Tonk Man in the role of I-C champ.
Flair/Benjamin was good. Benjamin can get some air when he wants to.
Jericho/Christian was awesome. Christian did everything he possibly could to be true to his promise to Trish and her involvement in the match.
Lawler and I actually said something in unison tonight..."Verne Gagne?!?"
What right does Coach have looking even halfway plausible with Tajiri?
To Edge's credit his return feud and subsequent match against Kane was a really lame ass one. I thought he was going to do something with HHH? I guess not anymore.
"Just a humble bounty hunter, ma'am." -Spike Spiegel
Not a bad PPV overall.... this continues the streak (in my opinion, at least) to four very good shows this year. Of my predictions on Online Onslaught, I was right in all but two matches (I picked Flair and Foley), redeeming myself from my awful record at Mania.
Shelton Benjamin Vs. Ric Flair Probably shouldn't have been the opener, but they didn't have a ton of other decent choices. Flair, as usual, worked his ass off to make someone else look great, and Benjamin held up his end quite nicely. That leap onto the top rope was especially impressive. Would have liked to see the seeds planted for a Benjamin-Batista feud here, but a well-told story nonetheless.
Jonathan Coachman Vs. Tajiri Garrison Cade? The only possible explanation I can think of is that the road agents had asked Kane to interfere, and Cade misheard, thought they said "Cade" and ran out before they could stop him.
Chris Jericho Vs. Christian/Trish Stratus Still not the match I thought these three were capable of having, but strong and fast-paced, so it left me nothing to complain about, really.
Victoria Vs. Lita Bleah. Further evidence Lita shouldn't be anywhere near a ring anymore. I swear, I wouldn't have been surprised to see her take off a wig and her bra and reveal that she's actually Jeff Hardy. And did I hear JR say she invented the Moonsault?
Randy Orton Vs. Mick Foley I still say that was the wrong decision. Foley should have come out on top, but they painted themselves into a corner putting the title on the line. That said, what a fantastic match! Orton was a real sport, taking all kinds of nasty bumps I never imagined I'd see him take, and of course Foley rocked. Only thing that really bothered me was Bischoff trying to stop Foley from using fire. Why doesn't anyone complain when Kane's entrance has fire?
Hurricane/Rosey Vs. La Resistance Hey, I predicted THIS match would happen too. Not that I'm proud of that fact, but whatever... was harmless enough, and Eugene's role was actually funny. Go figure. Little high up on the card, though, no?
Edge Vs. Kane I got what I expected - a so-so match that didn't really show me anything new. Other than Edge is freaking huge now!
Chris Benoit Vs. Triple H Vs. Shawn Michaels This certainly didn't top their 'Mania outing, but it was nothing to sneeze at either. The sequence with Michaels putting Benoit in the sharpshooter and Earl Hebner coming out must have a lot of people very nervous. Of course, that was the whole point, so full points for bringing the drama. HBK will turn shortly, I'm sure of it now. By the way, how come he didn't blade tonight? Did he run out of blood or something? I think Benoit winning was the right decision that helped all three for very different reasons. Solid main event.
The opening contest was pretty good, and I'm getting to be quite the Benjamin fan. Is it just me, or did anyone else see the brass knucks fall out of Flair's trunks early in the match? The ref picked them up and tossed them out of the ring. Then, when Flair went to get the chair, I think he went to the timekeeper to get the knucks, but needed a reason for going over there, so he grabbed the chair....
Coach v.s Tajiri was interesting, and Coach actually surprised me with his limited amount of skill. The best finish would've been him spraying Tajiri in the face with mist. And for those wondering about Cade, he WAS one of the gusy (along with La Resistance) that told Tajiri to spray mist into Coach's eyes....
I liked the three-way match as well, and have been thoroughly impressed throughout this feud....
The women's title match was not so good. Lita just doesn't have "it" in the ring. The big problem with the ladies matches seems to be timing....
Orton v.s Foley was GREAT. Orton bare-back onto the tacks was a great visual. Both guys put their asses on the line, and came out with a MOTYC. The result doesn't bother me- Foley is a part-timer who doesn't really "need" a belt to be over. Whether we like it or not, Orton is "the future"....
The tag match was obviously to cool the crowd down, as it really did nothing except (try to) get Eugene over....
The Kane/Edge match probably would've been better lower on the card, so the crowd wasn't so burnt out. I'm not a big fan of Edge....
The main event was awesome, and as much as I wanted Benoit to win, the jerk in me wanted Michaels to win just to see the crowd's reaction. Will they ever stop with the "You screwed Bret" chants? It's getting pretty sad now, seven years later.
