BACK STORY: Vince put on some sort of "Legends Battle Royale" in the 80's but didnt include Randy's dad even though he was in the building. The whole night, people are asking Randy why his dad wasnt being included in the match and he didnt have an answer for anyone. He talked to an agent about it but they gave him a kind of brush-off answer and he didnt push the issue. Later on, he learned that it really hurt and embarrassed his dad that all these other "legends" got to be in the match but he didnt even though he was there. Randy never forgot that and always beat himself up for not trying harder to get his dad included.

Years and years later, Lanny & Randy are discussing the HoF. Randy brought up the "Legends Battle Royale" story and told Lanny that if they ever asked him to be in it, he would only go if they inducted the whole family. That way, he could feel like he finally made it up to his dad for not fighting hard enough for him before.

FAST-FORWARD: Lanny lives in FL and said John Laurinitis canme to see him when WM was in town (28?) and ask if he would induct Randy into the HoF. Lanny told John about Randy's "whole family or nothing" wishes and said something like "This is what Randy said he wanted and I wont go against Randy's wishes. That being said, I cant stop you from putting Randy in on your own, just know that I wont be there. You have my permission to do it without my permission". That's not an exact quote, but it's pretty close.

CREDIT: I pulled all of the above quotes and info from a Lanny Poffo interview I listened to last week on YouTube conducted sometime after WM28.

Hogan, Piper, Orndorff, Orton and Snuka are all already Hall of Famers. The only new face they'd be putting into the HOF would be Mr. T, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just make Mr. T this year's celeb inductee (Hogan, naturally, would give his intro speech).

As far as who inducts him, the only name I can think of is Vince McMahon. His greatest opponents (Savage, Perfect, Rude) are all dead and he has some real legit heat with Hogan. I can't imagine Hogan wanting to legitimize him. Vince, however, always knew how to put Warrior over well and would legitimize him pretty well.

Plus, we'd get to hear Vince say "the ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLTIMATE WARRIOR!" one more time.

I imagine getting Muhammad Ali to appear wouldn't be much of a problem. :-)

After trying to come up with people who aren't in but (given people who are) seem like obvious choices, is there any reason why King Kong Bundy isn't in already? He headlined a Wrestlemania and was as much of a fixture (and had relatively more crossover fame from my memory of the time, at least) as Koko ever was. As an NJ guy, it'd make sense to put him in this year, and he wouldn't upstage Warrior or (presumably) Jake.

If Mr. T is still of the mindset of refusing to go in because of the Pete Rose slight he carries, Regis Philbin feels like the celebrity who "deserves" it most and would absolutely show up for it. I could see them shoving Bob Barker in, though, while they still can.

Now that they have Bruno around to do induct them, is it safe to assume that at least one of the pre-Rock 'n Wrestling names goes in this year? Say Tony Garea or Ivan Koloff?

They also like throwing tag teams in, but I don't know who is still on outs among the teams that would make sense like Demolition/Rock 'n Roll Express/Midnight Express.

The biggest name left (aside from Savage and Sting, where we know what the complications are) who isn't represented but feels like he should be given that Abdullah and Mil Mascaras are in there is Muta. Any chance he ever goes in?

Pre-sale for the Hall of Fame starts tomorrow morning at 11am EST (pre-sale codes: CMPUNK and WM30FB). Ugh, on the fence. Wishing I knew who else will be inducted besides just the Ultimate Warrior. Going to be a long wrestling weekend with ROH Friday, potential HOF Saturday, WM30 Sunday, and Raw Monday.

All I can really think of are tag team stars.

Demolition should definitely be up there. While we're inducting face-painted 80's stars, they should be at or near the top of the list.

Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart had a pretty decent career and it's easy to figure out who could induct him. I don't know if Marty Jannetty had a Hall of Fame career, but he certainly was a big part of Shawn Michaels' career and had a memorable Intercontinental Title win.

I remember hearing a rumor a while back that DeGeneration-X was going to be inducted, or at least they were thinking about it. I wouldn't mind seeing them go in, as long as they weren't taking the headlining spot away from Warrior.

EDIT: I think anyone who does DDP Yoga should automatically qualify.

It still amazes me how poorly the HOF was planned out. Putting, for example, Piper and Hogan in during the same year seems terribly short-sighted. Dusty Rhodes, Jerry Lawler, & Jim Ross all the same year, any of them could be a headline guy in a separate year. Now they have virtually no one left.

Look at last year: Foley, Bruno, Trish and Booker. Minus Hogan and his Rogue Gallery that maybe the best class of all time.

I think there are a lot of guys that will likely hang it up in the next couple of hears that could either headline or SEMI-headline an HOF class. You've got the big headliners: Undertaker, Rock, Punk. The semi-headliners: Kane, Mysterio, maybe Heyman, Jake the Snake. Then the tricky inductions: DX, NWO. Tag teams: Demolition, Edge & Christian as a set. I don't think they're out of guys to build each year around by a long shot.

And of course, the posthumous Savage and Rude inductions are overdue.

I get the Hogan/Piper year, as that was the anniversary of Wrestlemania 1 thing (in a rare case of accidentally getting the correct number of years) and they definitely weren't planning ahead or looking at it as a big WM weekend attraction going forward. From there it really is just whatever occurs to them -- Bret was 2006 because they'd just made peace with him. Lawler and Ross pretty much just went in as an excuse to attempt to retire JR in the Dr. Claw-esque Plot To Get Rid Of Jim Ross part 23.

The one good thing about over-delivering on the classes is that it's creating Interesting Times by forcing them into cutting deals with people they weren't on good terms with, even Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Bruno last year, Warrior this year, Savage will happen sooner or later, Goldberg has been talked with before and the year will come when they'll have to rely on him. They might not ever feel comfortable letting Kurt Angle get in their ring again, but Warrior has proven there ain't no one too crazy for the HOF. I bet they'd even make an overture to Chyna as part of DX.

Meltzer says Sting hasn't renewed his contract with TNA and WWE has been negotiating with him. I wonder if they'd put him in the HOF straight away for the Blade Runners year, or if you'd want him to come in just as talent/mysterious aura man strictly doing angles before his first WWE match.

If Sting signed and still wanted to compete, perhaps the best introduction would be as the guy inducting Warrior, no? Of course that might create the expectation that if Sting gets in Warrior would do the honors and..well, I guess we'll have to see what he does this time around.

The Freebirds aren't in, right? Actually, you know what they should do? They should start inducting all the organizations that the WWE has absorbed in some way or another (outright purchased or own the tape library to). That way you can bring in lots of known faces who would never get a whiff of the HOF on their own. One year WCCW, one year ECW. Stampede. We'll know they're reaching when they put in the GWF.

The Coach Turn was funny as hell. That's the last guy that I thought I would see swing a chair. He basically made that match interesting by himself. Now I want him to be back in the Raw Booth with JR and King. That should spice up thngs quite nicely.
