Benoit did to a top-o-the cage headbutt in that same match, but the moonsault bump looked sweeter than ghey twister!

I wonder if the Tough Enough 3 kids are smarky enough to have second thoughts about joining WWE.

Of course! "Yeah right, like I want to get paid well and be on television. Fuck you guys and your bad writing- I'm going to ROH to show off my awesome workrate and get paid in RF video comps."

I'm not sure what direction that comment of yours was coming from, but I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet to call it one of those "Oh shut the hell up" moments.

If you were "offended" because the show wasn't "legitimate" and did things like, gasp, horror of horrors, changing the favourite RAW moment of all time from Owen's death march to a Stone Cold favourite, then you're an idiot. That had to be changed. For decency's sake, let's not end the show with coverage of Black Monday.

If you thought Chyna, Sable, or Sunny had a shot in soiled dick of winning, as well as anyone else either dead or not with the company winning something, you're an idiot.

If you thought PREFESSIONAL WRESTLING was going to do a LEGITIMATE awards ceremony---not only are you an idiot, but you've obviously never seen the Slammy's.

By the by---I'm glad Austin wasn't invited. Now is not the time for his return. He should sit back, if he has any intelligence, and wait a year because his stock won't have fallen anymore then. I personally never want to see him again, but if he must return do it when there's a few new stars. Not the same old crap. He may beat his wife, but he can't be THAT stupid. He can make more money if he waits.

Wow, some people need to really just relax and breathe a little. Basically it comes down to a lot of you being pissed that Austin or Bret or whomever didn't show up, and you're masking that by claiming they're "insulting your intelligence" and "they don't respect you". It's FUCKING WRESTLING SHOW-and a fucking wrestling AWARDS show on top of that. Side note: The double standards of this place are amazing: The company needs to build new stars, but the only thing fans have to look forward to is Austin returning? HELLO. You talk about WWE becoming a joke? The way everyone is becoming so damn hypersensetive to EVERYTHING, THIS place is becoming a joke. It was a freaking rehash of the Slammys? What the Hell did you expect, Shakespeare? They didn't piss on anyone's legacy, they didn't overtly bait-and-switch-you can thank your own expectations for that-and they didn't do anything majorly stupid. Of course the awards will be geared to recent events-that happens in EVERY medium, not just wrestling. Look at the Top 100 Films Poll of last year: Goodfellas was at number ten, taxi Driver and Raging Bull were in the twenties, and Star Wars won it.

Ugh-this is so frustrating. Why the Hell SHOULD the company get any better when, even if they DO do something right, many of the fans totally ignore it in favour of attacking the negatives?

I knew this thread was going to be good for a laugh. People were expecting a classy awards ceremony or tribute to a show that has (even during it's high points) been one of the most classless shows on television? Kayfabe may or may not be dead, but the fans are just as gullible as ever...

I suppose that's our problem (and I'm including myself in this) - we see a company capable of a good program (even, yes, a classy program - on a good night), and yet they undercut our lowest expectations over and over again.

Yes, this is the company that gave us HLA, T&A, necropHHHilia, soap opera angles, Crash TV, and a panorama of wrestlers with brutally bad gimmicks. And yes, I've survived the Slammys before. This, however, was the tenth anniversary of what was/is WWE's flagship show. They should have had months to plan it, and years of good matches to draw upon. They had plenty of opportunity to mend fences with older talent to add to the historic feel of the night. What we saw instead was a slapdash effort which did little to highlight the history of RAW; it was barely good enough to be called the 2003 Slammys. I'd rather have seen Tazz sitting next to a monitor for two hours, slapping old RAW tapes into a nearby VCR.

Will I keep watching? Probably, for some slim hope of deliverance from this mess. Call it "Waiting For Godot", Pro Wrestling Edition.

Steph

My thoughts on Raw X.

I was disappointed but understood why Foley and Austin weren't there. The crowd was so upset that Austin wasn't there that they didn't even "WHAT" Vince.

Stacey looked hot.

That Rock segment was really bad. Stupid Steph was smiling and laughing while Rock was dissing her. I'm praying that Rock turns heel.

A few of the good segments were the Wrestlecrap segment, and the segment honoring the deceased(with Tell Me A Lie in the background.)

Angle's speech was good. I liked how he was upset at the "WHAT" chants.

I think that while TLC4 was good, it wasn't the best RAW match ever.

At least I didn't get to endure any B-Level celebrity presenters.

The Beerbath was alright but that shouldn't be the Greatest Raw Moment, it should either RAW is OWEN, or the RAW/NITRO similcast.

Overall, aside from a few things, pretty much a disappointment.

A-FREAKIN-MEN to you Stephanie! That is the thing that keeps us coming back - the potential for a great, quality show is so there, we just keep waiting for the heavens to open and the writers/staff to realize the talent they have at their disposal and make some quality programming.

Granted, this only reflects my viewing from '97-current, but...

Raw favorite moment: RAW IS JERICHO!!!!!
Best match: Jericho/Benoit vs. Austin/HHH
I can dig the results for Best wrestler and Biggest Bump.
Best couple: Who the hell cares. Give that one to Mae Young, not the HandBaby crap.
Network Censor moment SO should have been the Pillman gun incident. Ah well.
Best *Diva*: Shoulda been Sunny - the first, had charsima, had great looks. Now this would be based off her WWE career, and have NOTHING to do with her current state-of-being.

Now these results show a fair distribution over that time period, and judging from the posts so far, would seem to have placated a lot of viewers.

As long as I'm here, what was the exact reason the networks were so pissed at Austin stunning Santa Claus? I can see the HLA and Mae Young's hand, but what reason did they have to get PO'ed at Austin/Santa?

I proclaimed in another thread that the whole "Anniversary show is being thrown together at the last minute" rumor was pure bullshit and that they're just going for the element of surprise factor to get people talking again.
Well, don't I look like a jackass today? I guess it's not the first time Vince has made me look like an idiot by having high expectations.
Maybe he's saving up all his good ideas for the PPV. Yeah, that's it... WWE rulz baby!

If the award was for Mae Young in general, then she sure as Hell deserves it; the Royal Rumble stripping stunt cost WWF their contract with Britain's Channel Four right off the bat-and they were only a month in to their two-year run.

wow. Negative vibes, dude!

I taped this mess, but have only watched a few segments (NYPD Blue is on tuesdays, baby!). I did see the Rock segment - and he rather sucked, eh? I thought he was pretty uninspired all around.

I did see the death segment too. I thought for a second they weren't going to put in Gorilla - that up front picture didn't look much like him. But I keep getting a nagging feeling that somebody was missed in the segment. Not Brian Hildebrand - although he was the first to pop to mind - but somebody who was on Raw.

Glad I taped it. Seems like the FF button will be working overtime.

Hehe, gravy on the lens. I need to remember that one when one of my friends asks me about all the blurring out.

Anyways, no use in repeating the opinions others have said and only saying it in a different way. So, I just have a thought on why there was no Austin. Does anybody know how long he has to have direct permission from the judge to leave Bexar County? If that's still applicable, then maybe there was some SNAFU there. Possibly, for whatever reason, the judge wouldn't allow him to leave for New York (doubtful as that is). Maybe, if this show was put together as slapdash as some say, they didn't give Austin enough time to obtain permission. Thus, Vince had to cover up with "wasn't invited."

Of course, the most probable situation is that they decided Austin's return would be more special in front of 30,000 who will be all crazy-go-nuts instead of 1,500 where every smartass audience members' remarks would be picked up.

The point is that there is a reason why Austin, Bret, etc., weren't there. We don't know that reason, its probably something none of us thought or could even know. Maybe its a good reason, maybe it isn't, maybe they had no choice, maybe there's a better plan ahead, maybe i'll end this post since I see I really don't have much of a point.

I'm one of the people most dissatisfied by the current state of the WWE, but I can't find much to complain about with the award show.

For the Diva, you can make the argument for any of the 5, so they went with the best current one who is a better wrestler than the other 4. I think Sable was hands down the best. She was the first to have her own (Sable Unleashed) video and the Playboy spread. Also, reading Mick Foley's book he talks about signing autographs with her and her table had 20x the line as his. Her popularity was off the charts.

For TLC 4, it was a very good match and had the best highlight film spots out of all the matches. That works too.

400,000 fans out of 2 million voted the Austin beer truck at the website. That is good enough reason for me.

Regarding nobody showing up, look at the AMAs. Eminem and Creed won a lot of awards despite their no-shows. I think it took balls to be honest and give the best wrestler of the decade to Austin. They could've given it to Triple H or Undertaker, but that would've been a lie.

I would've loved to see Austin, Foley, or Bret show up. But, I'll believe it when I see it.

It was fun to remember the good old days, but also sad once you realize Raw will never be that good again.

EXCELLENT point has been brought up here --

Nobody from WWE hinted on a Bret Hart or Austin return. These things ARE just figments of our internet imaginations and rumors until they actually happen. The only time the WWE has made mention of a possible Austin comeback is on one Ross Report where he said something like "Hopefully Austin will come back sometime this year". That's IT. If you took all those classic clips of him whoopin' on Vince as proof of his return, you were sadly mistaken. WWE didn't said anything about him showing up ever again.

And you can't be pissed for Bret not showing up. I mean, did you all REALLY believe he was gonna be there last nite??

In the words of the immortal Comic Book Store Guy:

"WORST AWARDS CEREMONY EVER!"

But seriously, what did we expect? The WWE has been screwing with us for years so why should they stop now? Secret meetings with Bret Hart, verbal mentionings on Stone Cold, the promise of some old timers, I mean come on. They have been promising and failing to deliver on said promises for years. I think most people in this string are pissed becuase they thought they were going to be promised something (Stone Cold, Bret, Foley, a good show) and the WWE failed to deliver on all counts. But you know what, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice (or more) shame on me. We all should have known this show would suck beyond belief. Anyone who thought it would be great deserves to be idiot slapped for thinking/hoping so. Wrestling, for the most part, blows now and will continue to blow for a while. Then, it will turn around and be stellar again. When? Hell if I knew that I would turn my TV off until then. But I don't know. So who cares if Trish won over Chyna? Or for that matter, who cares who won anything?

For the time being, let's all enjoy watching the follwing wrestlers perform for us:
RVD, Y2J, HBK, Booker T, Golddust, Edge, Rey Rey, Christian, Brock, Angle, Benoit, Eddie and Chavo, the Dudleys, Lance Storm, D-Lo Brown, Matt Hardy, Raven, Trish, Victoria, Al Snow, Tommy Dreamer to name a few.

Let's also tolerate the following wrestlers in hopes that they will soon either fall in line, get better or get gone:
HHH, Steiner, UT, A-Train, Bob Holly, Maven, Batista, Randy Orton, Chris Nowitski, Big Show, Regal and Jeff Hardy to name a few.

And finally, let's hope that the following wrestlers make a return soon and make an impact:
The Rock, Stone Cold, Mick Foley, Sting and Bret Hart.

But mostly, let's all pray that the writing gets better (and quick) becasue that is where most of the blame should fall for all this mess.

PHEW! I need a nap!

Double standard? Why can't the fans have BOTH? WWE is certainly capable of doing so and they're not doing it. The fans aren't getting what they want. WWE pays for it and they deserve to.

Austin didn't have to show up last night, but the show could have been a lot better. Why not bring in some faces from the past? If they were going to give 80% of the awards to people who weren't there, why did they even decide to do an awards show in the first place? This was a definite sign of poor planning.

Ugh-this is so frustrating. Why the Hell SHOULD the company get any better when, even if they DO do something right, many of the fans totally ignore it in favour of attacking the negatives?

WWE seems to be taking the same distorted perspective. Shawn Michaels was on Byte This! recently and faulted the fans for focusing too much on the negative. The plain and simple fact is: It's WWE's job to make the fans happy. Fan morale is pretty low right now and blaming the fans is going to hurt a lot more than it helps, whether it's just on this forum or the fans as a whole.

The company will get better when it starts doing things the fans want, like HHH doing a high-profile (not to mention LASTING) job. Hopefully, they do it at WrestleMania and blowoff the HHH push for good, then give him time to refresh and maybe even change his character. In any case, we don't live in that world right now and the fans don't react too favorably to the current one.

It's not our fault, as fans, for having heightened expectations. We expect the best out of WWE and they don't deliver. Austin and Bret didn't have to show up, but WWE sets the bar for itself and, if they fall below that bar, it's their fault. The fans have seen WWE do amazing things in the past, such as Warrior's impossible return at WM8 and the 1-2-3 Kid beating Razor Ramon in the past (yeah, I know I'm going way back) and they just aren't doing that type of amazing stuff anymore. It's their fault, not ours. They ran out of ideas. Oops.

As a whole, I enjoyed watching the old clips on the show and Stacy, but not much else. Vince handled the Austin award about as good as he could have, but since he knew he wasn't going to be there, he really shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place.

EDIT: 1-2-3 Kid vs Razor wasn't for the IC Title, it was Jannetty returning and beating Michaels, which was another amazing moment in RAW history.

My biggest disappointment in the show? NO BOBBY HEENAN.

Not only was it a big letdown not seeing him on the show (Pat friggin' Patterson was the best substitute they could come up with?!?), but now I have to assume that the reason he wasn't on the show was due to health reasons ... and that makes me sad.

Two other "observations" :

(1) This show was another case of people taking all the hype and bullshit created by the internet message boards, in order to build something up in their respective minds to unattainable proportions ... and then being disappointed when their expectations are not, er, "attained".

While it's true that this show was hyped as the "return of several former superstars", I remember only TWO names as actually being confirmed to show up - Heenan and K Kwik (who I didn't actually expect to show up on camera, maybe just to be there with a few other B level performers for an interview on WWF.Com or Confidential) ... No Austin. No Bret. No Foley. Oh well, maybe next time.

(2) I don't think this was just a problem with my cable company (since the other channels were working fine), but for a good 15-20 minute stretch towards the end of the show, the sound during the broadcast totally disappeared; even during the commercials. Did anyone else experience this problem?
