I hear what you're saying, T, and sure, a lot of what he did in ECW (and the man DID do a LOT of stuff) was off the wall --
BUT -- by the way it was handled, I don't think Paulie wrote the InVasion angle, so I don't think you can blame that particular failure on him.
No one can convince me that Heyman would've written an angle that had the WWF guys constantly going over his guys. Those were Vince's fingerprints, if you ask me.
Every worker who "survived" being "cut" after Survivor Series was either already a WWF worker or a former ECW employee. The hideously un-over Rhyno was elevated into a title feud with Chris Jericho. Heyman was generally regarded as responsible for the InVasion angle, especially the addition of his (failed) ECW brand to the mix.

Travis used some notorious ECW storylines and changed the names to WWE guys/gals to show what sort of stuff to expect from Paul Heyman.
So alas, you will have to go download again..
Now on to the rest of the discussion. In general the writing needs a bit more direction and a bit more depth. Most storylines are like those baseball hits that fly all the wall only to bounce back into the field from the stands or the wall or something. The payoff often isn't there.
I don't know who books things and I don't often care. Now I do know that Taker-Flair was done by Heyman and that was pure genius imo. The slow build, playing mindgames back and forth. I loved it. However for every stroke of genius there will always be something that just doesn't work out. the nWo fell on their asses for some reason (not just because it's 'them' but reluctanct by Austin to play along etc) and no writing could have saved it. Injuries (and a firing) also ruined that one.
So it seems to avoid getting fucked over when an important person disappears for whatever reason they are trying to do the insta-feud, insta-pay off again...
I keep believing though that when something starts it could lead to great things. Booker T as a reluctant nwo member has potential. they prolly will not do it right though..
Finally, putting too much faith into one person as a booker is lame. Heyman was advised by others for sure, so was Russo, so was every booker no matter if he was a hit or a failure..

I'll say this: I haven't really given a rat's ass about the WWE since Austin left, nor have most of my wrestling watching friends. Here's the thing: we don't care why he left and we don't want him to be different when he returns.
