Aren't they in the middle of getting a divorce? Or was that some stupid work thing that him and Heyman did for the ECW version of Byte This that makes no sense to try to work?

So why all this hoarding of cash? I mean, to cut in excess of fifteen people, and with even more cuts coming...what have they got up their sleeve, exactly? It's not like they were hurting for cash THAT badly.

I read something about the investors during the last open call whining about the lack of cash. I forget the specifics, but the general thing was that they were spending as much now (or were planning to in Fiscal 2006) as they were back when ad revenues were high and they had more TV time. With the loss of 2+ hours of weekly TV time...AND the fact that house show revenues are down, PPV buyrates (on average) are down, and that ad revenues are gonna be much lower under the NBC Universal deal... The WWE is a publicly traded company whose only real loyalty has to be to it's shareholders if it plans to survive long-term.

They may need to do that, but I can't see how releasing the Tough Enough gang and C carders are really going to help alleviate that other than travel expenses and a small small chunk of payroll.

I can understand we all have some people we like being dropped here and we're all entitled to our opinions, but you're wasting time complaining about Hulk Hogan. I got news for you. He's not getting cut.

Brilliant deduction, HMD...you can't cut someone who's working on pay per appearance deal!!!

My point is...why push Hogan if he's merely on TEMPORARILY and have him gobble up main event time when they could put someone younger? I realize this is the WWE, and they don't really know the concept of booking for the future, but I'd much rather see Cena take that superkick over Hogan. I mean, at least, that would have lead somewhere past this (or next) week.

Because it's Hulk F'n Hogan, the greatest star in company history? It's not like he's a regular player, gobbling up main events like this is 1998 WCW. He's had only three matches since 2003 and made, what, five appearances total? If new guys aren't getting over, it certainly isn't because of Hogan.

I realize this is the WWE, and they don't really know the concept of booking for the future. . .

But they do. That's why Cena, Orton, and Batista all won the title in the last year. Hell, that's why Cena was in the six-man tag with Hogan last week - to get a rub from Hogan's star power.

but I'd much rather see Cena take that super kick over Hogan. I mean, at least, that would have lead somewhere past this (or next) week.

Well, I think the plan is Hogan-Michaels at Summerslam. You don't think that that will be interesting, historic and potentially lucrative for WWE? And even better, I'm sure that this paves the way for HBK to eventually feud with Cena sometime in the coming months.

The WWE has a lot of problems in a lot of areas, but bringing Hulk Hogan back sporadically for matches and angles is not one of them.

I would think that this is related to the WWE movies coming out. That is my guess anyway. I would think they are using their own capital to finance the films. Just a guess though.

This all makes me really worried for Shelton Benjamin, who hasn't been on TV in weeks.

Shelton's really, really over and just came off an insanely long IC title run. He's fine. None of the people cut - save Matt Morgan - have been involved in anything for months.

Shelton's over, but not "really, really" over. Still, I would imagine he's not going anywhere except back on television soon.

Matt Morgan is a logical cut. When you have the guy who originally does the F5 on his way back to the company, you don't need the guy who uses his finish hanging around. Alas, Morgan's release won't prevent a friend of mine who hung out with him once from repeatedly telling the story about how a very inebriated Morgan gorilla pressed him in a parking lot.

Except that a feud with a heel HBK wouldn’t really do much for Cena’s character right now, and it’s not the sort of story that needs the WWE Title attached to it. HBK versus Hogan is the sort of special attraction match that sells itself. They’re two of the biggest names in the business. And Hogan’s one of those generally beloved guys by most fans, so he’s a good guy for Shawn to establish himself as a heel with.

Totally agreed. It's always smarter to build up the heel for a main event program than to just throw him into one, even if he's already an established superstar/icon...especially after such a long run for Shawn as a face.

Back to the topic, the WWE posted links on its main page to articles showing reactions from some WWE superstars who were released:

Gayda and Haas respond to release
Originally posted by article on WWE.com

“It’s a shock,” Haas, a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion, said when reached via phone. “Vince (McMahon) said two weeks ago that some of us would be let go. So we knew it was coming, we just didn't know who. You wake up one morning and you’re fired. And it’s not just you, but your wife as well. WWE was how we both made a living. I’m just glad they waited until after the wedding.”
And for some odd reason, there was a sidebar item on the left that said "CANDICE FACT: Candice competed in the 2004 $250,000 RAW Diva Search."

Morgan committed to returning
Originally posted by article on WWE.com

“I was kind of shocked,” Morgan said. “I thought I was doing everything they asked of me. I’m still so new to the sport and I have such an upside. I’m still going to get to where I have to go, I’m just going to have to take a different avenue.”
Morgan also mentioned pursuing offers for small movie roles. It should also go to show you that you should never let webmasters of your site post reactions to your firing, as his actual response was much more diplomatic than his webmaster's rant.

No comment from Kidman
Contents of the entire article on WWE.com
Former Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman declined to comment on being released from WWE, but did leave the door open for an interview at a later date.
....why even bother posting that?

Hard to imagine that Matt Morgan got "stunnered" out of WWE (a la Brock and Goldberg by Austin at WM20) by Juventud, Psicosis and Super Crazy, huh?

During the Draft Lottery I assumed that Haas & Benjamin were once again going to become the WGTT since Haas hadn't been doing sqaut and Shelton just lost the IC belt. I think that would have worked out better than firing Haas.

Yeah, especially considering the state of the tag-team division (that is to say, virtually nonexistent), they missed a great opportunity there.

Now they have a quote from D-Von about being interviewed:

When asked if he would change his mind and talk at a future date, D-Von said, “I don’t think I’ll change my mind, ever.”
