    I have re-read this thread and still can't find this straw man that you've set up.

Anyway...this is getting a little long-winded and pointless. I'll work on making my points more concise if you work on not saying "fuck".

I'm nitpicking.

mysql> select count(id) from posts where user=693 and text regexp "fuck";

I'm fine with McMahon bringing in an old-timer for Wrestlemania XX as long as it's done properly.

The gimmick battle royale was an embarassment to professional wrestling. To me, Wrestlemania should be the one place where kayfabe is not broken, for any reason. McMahon doesn't need to make a joke out of some of his former characters when he can utilize them in an entertaining way.

If it were up to me, I would book a storyline in which the challenger to a title (Raw, Smackdown, IC or US) is told that they will have to face a mystery opponent at Wrestlemania, and that they would have to win in order to face the champion for the belt later that night. If they kept the mystery challenger under wraps, it would have the casual fans and smarks alike guessing and debating about who the mystery opponent would be. This would drive up buyrates and interest in the product, and all in all make for a good show.

You know, this isn't a bad idea... but they would never NOT advertise at least potential mystery opponents. Like will it be Ricky Steamboat? Or the Macho Man, Randy Savage? Tune into WrestleMania to find out!

Technially, since you didn't put a WHERE clause, it would return all rows... unless in YOUR world of RDBMS everything goes in a big table with one row.

If you had put the word "Flavin!!!" in there, I would have sent you $100 as an entertainment fee.

I think that while a focus on the future is commendable, Vince isn't going to keep the old-timers off of such an important show completely. In fact there are so many huge stars who might be looking to come back for "what might be their last match" they should play off of that for some added drama.

What I mean is, say Foley, Austin, Hogan, and Rock all want to come back and work a match at WM 20. They could put their "careers" on the line and people would buy the possibility of them losing, since Foley and Austin and Hogan probably only have one more match in them, and there have been rumors of the Rock going to Hollywood for good. Add one more guy from the Raw roster that people might believe is about ready to retire-- say Booker, or HBK. Then have the five of them challenge VKM to a Survivor Series style match at WM 20. With all five of the faces' careers on the line if their team should lose, Vince's career alone on the line if he and any four partners of his choice should lose. Vince says that they are has beens and he won't ever need to get in the ring because Evolution can destroy all five of them.

So you've got Foley's old feud with HHH, his legit bad blood with Flair, and his recent issues with Orton. Hogan's old issues with Flair and with Vince. Rock's uber-feud with HHH, and the biggest feud ever - Vince vs Austin, all mixed up in one match. At the end, of course it comes down to Austin and Vince as the last man on each team and puts a final cap on that over-arching storyline once and for all.

Well, I have obviously been thinking about what I would like to see at WM20 a bit much. But I think this would be a good way to recapitulate the past and the future, the way they did with the last three matches at WM19, but all in one match.

I'm not saying TNA's commentary is good by any stretch. But at least Tenay and West oversell everything and rant and rave the entire time. Listening to Tazz and Styles is like listening to how Josh and whomever used to commentate Velocity.
