| #1 Posted on 7.8.03 1607.59 | The game will be released within the next month (early September), and we'll see if the new game is in fact a significant improvement over its predecessor.
The roster of playable wrestlers is:
Triple H The Rock Stone Cold Steve Austin Brock Lesnar Undertaker Kurt Angle Hulk Hogan Rob Van Dam Chris Jericho Booker T Goldust Rey Mysterio Edge Kane Chris Benoit Shawn Michaels Big Show Scott Steiner Bubba Ray Dudley D-Von Dudley Stacy Keibler Trish Stratus Victoria Eddie Guerrero Ric Flair Matt Hardy Jeff Hardy Lita Christian Torrie Wilson Batista John Cena Hurricane Randy Orton Chris Nowinski Vince McMahon Stephanie McMahon Test Chavo Guerrero Dawn Marie Tajiri Al Snow Rikishi William Regal Lance Storm Goldberg
Forget all the "what about this guy" comments we'll hear in a month's time... the only thing that will disappoint me is the bad timing. It's inevitable that a few new finishers will not be in the game. Such as the RKO for Randy Orton. Prior to using the RKO, he only had that twisting Fame-Asser and the High Flying Cross Body. I doubt the former will be included.
Most of the others should have up to date finishers. I'm looking forward to this, but we'll see what happens - ex. whether or not we can edit the wrestlers' move sets.

The last game in this series was absolutely terrible - *but* it seems like THQ intentionally botches the first WWE game on each engine. They know it'll sell anyway, and then they can sell the second on the basis that "they've listened to the fans and made the necessary improvements". Remember the first Smackdown game with the mix-and-match heads and bodies version of CAW? IGN's official preview describes the gameplay as "extremely No Mercy-esque", and from the videos I've seen - it looks to be the case. (The grapple system is definitely there - and I think I even saw weak and strong grapples, although it's hard to tell for sure.)
If it's got No Mercy's controls and the kind of incredible Create A Wrestler they've given us in the Smackdown titles as of late, they've got my money and the storyline can be just as stupid as they want. Hell, it might be fun to have Big Show throw some security gaurds around and blow up a yacht.
