It was officially announced yesterday, and the press conference was today, that the location of next year's WrestleMania XXIX would be MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ ("in the shadow of New York City!!!!") with a date of 7 April 2013.

Here's the first logo, which has a notable lack of 29s, and a notable addition of thanks to the Empire State Building Company for use of their trademark within their logo (which we have omitted to annoy BOTH the ESBC and WWE):

It was quickly noted around the Internet that the average temperature for an April 7 at around 7PM lives in the 40s.

I hope they do call it WrestleMania NY/NJ. That's what I'm calling it.

THIS story (nycgo.com) actually mentions the last time WrestleMania was in NYC, and who won the main event!

The Rock, John Cena, Triple H and Vince McMahon are at the WrestleMania press conference. Who isn't there, apparently? WWE Champion CM Punk and World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan. But then Vince probably only invited people who he knows will be on the show next year.

Also, lots of complaints on Twitter, many to Jim Ross, about the wisdom of having WrestleMania outdoors in Jersey in April. What if it's too cold? What if it rains? By God, what's Good Ol' JR supposed to do about it?

Finally, will I attend WrestleMania NY/NJ. My magic 8 ball today says no, despite the conveniences it has to me. I promised myself I'd Ric Flair retire from attending WrestleManias after 28. But we'll see.

The seemingly-permanent move to stadiums for Wrestlemania means the end of Madison Square Garden getting one every ten years. Boooooo to that.

You'd think WWE would aim for some other kind of special locale for Wrestlemania 30 but I'm at a loss to think of another city or stadium that would fit. Toronto for another Bizarro-world crowd? Indianapolis? Dallas is out since Cowboys Stadium is booked for NCAA basketball for the next two March/Aprils.

Perhaps they could hold 30 at three different venues, as with 2. Or something off-the-wall that no-one has thought of.

The Metlife Stadium looks like a fantastic venue to me. Are people really that bothered about a bit of cold or some rain?

You don't know that. X7, X8 and X9 were all in stadia and they still had XX at MSG.

Heavens, we haven't even had THIS year's WrestleMania. Let's not start fretting about 2014 JUST yet.

If only there were a place, centrally located in the United States, virtually surrounded by hotel rooms and night life, that had an attached convention center for Axxess (or however it's spelled) and a nearby theater for the HOF Ceremonies, all accessible via public transportation....

St Louis is PERFECT for this!

It was decided last night, that I will be going now whether that will be the case when the tickets come out, who knows. Its really not the cold that should worry people, but the notorious wind. Still, its February here and its going to be 50 degrees tomorrow, so it might be 70 next year. Still, a little surprised no Punk at the conference, but Rock is there? It seems more like a press conference like this year instead of next year.

I can only assume that there is a warehouse full of New York/New Jersey Hitmen swag that Vince will FINALLY be able to repurpose as WM NY/NJ stuff.

Yeah, the wisdom of having a Wrestlemania in an outdoor venue that might have a decent possibility for rain or even snow in late March/ early April is questionable, IMO. To me, the bigger problem if you're an out-of-towner is that you're not really in NYC but in New Jersey. Near Newark, to be exact. Good luck with that.

I believe that would be the Goodwill store in downtown Stamford. (waves around XFL portfolio and media guides)

But this will be WWE's chance of going "OMG, look how awesome we are! 60,000* defying the weather for WM! First time evah!"

And yeah...well the good thing about being in Newark is that it's one really short train ride away from NY Penn.
Wouldn't be shocked if they include some sort of train pass in the package deals.

*no clue how many people fit in this stadium, but it won't change their bragging :)

Oh boy the W picture of the day has a lot of smugness to it. I think if you are season ticket holder or have even been at any football game on the east coast, you are used to the type of weather that will be happening that day. Double layer and bring a hat. It wouldn't shock me if they have a $50 Punk hoodie to sell that day. Also, if you are coming from out of state from the west coast, its just a straight shot on I-80 and you pretty much follow the signs. To be honest, it might be one of the easier places to get to that Mania has been at. The worse part is making you pay to leave Jersey and the insane amount of cops who are going to be making quota that day. I can not imagine what traffic is going to be like, I am praying some places do bus tours if anything its rent a van time and shove everyone into it.

Hah. Yeah, that's another thing that occured to me.
They sell WM hoodies every year, but the T-shirts probably outsell those by 10:1. Next year that'd be different

And aren't there trains going to/from Metlife stadium on gamedays? The one game in the old stadium I attended had a lot of people waiting for those. Don't think WM would be any different.

Bright sides of bad weather....

* Santino and [insert comedy opponent here] having a snowball fight in mid-ring

* Undertaker having a badass gothic entrance amidst the falling snow

Down side of bad weather....

How will we know if say Daniel Bryan is chopping Sheamus in the chest of if he's just hitting a pile of snow in the middle of the ring?

I think they screwed up on the logo - the X's look too much like N's. Also, take away the ESB and it looks like they just re-purposed the WM27 logo.

The stadium is nowhere near Newark and there are a TON of hotels nearby.

Axxess will probably be held in the convention center in Secaucus or at the Izod Center or if they want to go fancy they could book the theater at MSG or Radio City.

Be ready to pay $$$$$ for a room though.

Luckily Im 15 minutes from the stadium and will be there for this no matter what.

If NBC spent half as much energy promoting the XFL as it had the AFL, it would probably still be around. But once the ratings went in the tank, they left it floundering like rats leaving a sinking ship.
