So I went to a house show this weekend and my seat was by the aisle, where the wrestlers walked to the ring. It was a good show, headlined by HHH/Orton and HBK/Kane (in a "Waco streetfight").

But what was really interesting was how tall the wrestlers were. First of all, the refs are tiny. Earl Hebner and Chad Patton were less than 5'5". The tallest was Mike Chioda, who was maybe 5'10". I'm sure this is to accentuate the size of the wresters.

As for the wrestlers themselves, here's what I saw (I'm 5'10" and was wearing flip-flops):

- I had maybe an inch on Michaels.

- Benoit is *tiny*.

- Kane is probably 6'4".

- Shelton Benjamin was about my height.

- Surprisingly, HHH is maybe 6'0". I figured he'd be taller, though I think he wears lifts in his boots for TV.

- Randy Orton was probably 6'2".

Anyway, it was interesting. After years of hearing JR bill guys like Kane as a 6'10" monster, it was funny to see him up close.

Well, you have seen them in person, so there must be something about it, but it is hard to imagine that Kane would be that short. I'm 6'7" myself, and I can't believe I would be 7 cm higher than him. When I see him compared to others, he looks like a giant, so I guess he is taller than 6'4"!

I hear this a lot. I remember, back in the 80s, people being really suprised about how much smaller Andre the Giant was when they saw him live then what they thought he looked like on TV. Of course, that was when they had Andre stand on boxes during interviews, so that Vince McMahon would come up to Andre's crotch.

I think the most disturbing part of this discussion thus far is AsteroidBoy's admitting to wearing flip flops.

I think it's hilarious that Vince had Andre stand on a box for interviews, but mostly because I never noticed until years later.

Check out the height differences/similarities in these photos I Googled up:

Comedy.

And what's wrong with Flip-Flops??

There's a John Kerry joke somewhere there...

I remember years ago seeing a house show in London, ON. I'm 5'6" and Shawn Michaels was maybe two inches taller than me, max.

Hey, Texas in September can get a little warm

Also, Trish Stratus was really short, as you might imagine. Not in a "we represent the Lollypop Guild" kinda short, but pretty short. And cute.

Later that night, I was out drinking with friends and this kinda tan guy walked in with a silk shirt and gold jewelry. Looked very out of place for the place that we were in (dive, faux-Irish, college bar).

I thought, "Is that Mike Chioda?" Then the ring announcer followed him in, followed by some girl, followed by Randy Orton. They came up next to me and got beers. No one knew who they are.

I told Orton that it was a good show. He said thanks. They went to the back, and left after about 15 minutes.

Heh. It wasn't a very interesting (or long) conversation. Certainly not as interesting as if I'd said, "Well lookee here!" when he walked in, followed by a loud, doubtful interrogation regarding both the authenticity of wrestling and his own physical toughness.

I briefly thought about checking the strip clubs to see if any of the other guys were there, but it was getting late and I was tired.

To bad Matt Hardy had the knee injury, or else you could have debated him face to face.

And since we were at my bar, my friends could have been there to pull Matt off when he started wailing on me

I also laughed inwardly at hypothetically telling Orton, "I know this one guy on this message board who HATES you!"

I have to chime here on the issue of HHH's height. I've stood face to face with him (when i worked at Universal Studios Hollywood and he and Chyna came through on a private tour). I'm just under 6'5" and he stood at least a solid inch taller than me. In fact, I was pretty surprised how big he was, and this was well before the bulk-up. (1998 or so.)

There's no way he's 6'0", unless he had lifts in while walking around a theme park.
