I noticed that during the No Mercy match rundown, they officially listed the Jericho/Christian vs. Booker/Goldust as the "World Tag Team Championship" match. Could they screw with title lineage any more this year?

Don't tempt 'em, they might very well try.

Why they don't simply add a “WCW” to the beginning of the title name, I don't know. Remember that WCW always referred to its titles as World Titles. The top champion in WCW was called the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, while the top holder in the WWF/WWE has always simply been called the WWF or WWE Champion.

Ditto with the tag belts. WCW's tag team champions were called the WCW World Tag Team Champions. The WWF has simply called their champions the WWF Tag Team Champions. Once again, no “world”. Almost as if the WWF was egotistical enough to believe that “world” would be redundant in their case, since of course the wrestling world must always revolve around the WWF.

So referring to the RAW-brand tag team titles as the “World Tag Team Title” is simply another way they're continuing to split up the brands in preparation for the return of WCW, in my view.

Ummmmm, it WOULD be redundant.

World Wrestling Federation World Tag Team Champions?

The World is already included, so why say it twice?

-Jag

It also always made WCW looks silly when they said WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Just WCW Champ, or World Champ will do, thanks.

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

Bischoff also refered to the Women's Title as the World Women's Title on RAW as opposed to the WWE Women's Title.

Hell, if you're going to have two sets of singles and tag titles that (in theory) are on equal standing, then you might as well refer to them by different names (World vs. WWE) just to avoid confusion.

Besides, would you rater hear World Tag Team Cahmpion or Raw Tag Team Champion?

Not exactly something I'll be losing sleep over...but yes, World Wrestling Federation World blah blah blah is redundant. Not that it hasn't stoped people from doing it before, but still.

I don't have a problem with separate tag titles for each show. (or even the names, per say) My problem with the whole thing is that the World tag titles now have the WWE tag title lineage. I would have preferred them creating a tournament for the World belts instead of dumping the name and attaching it to newly created titles. I know that there's the issue of the belts being on Raw, but they could have easily switched the belts between the shows in a co-roster match at an earlier PPV. Hell, they had Rosey/Jamal vs. Billy/Chuck at Unforgiven and that wasn't for the titles.
It's nitpicking, I know, but it's the little logic gaps that drive me crazy. Well... that and the fact that co-roster matches can only occur within soap opera storyline feuds. Instead of something more important like, oh I don't know... CHAMPIONSHIPS?!

Personally, I've always liked hearing it referred to as "The Heavyweight Championship Of The World" much like Ventura and Monsoon used to do at 'Manias past.

I guess all the belts on Raw are "World" belts and Smackdown are "WWE" belts. But it's sure strange as hell hearing that Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle are the first WWE Tag Team Champions... Well there's one way to erase Billy Gunns 9 Tag Title reigns =)

Sorry to break it to you but Billy had 10 title reigns. Sad but true. Christian is currently one behind him with 9, though.

I was about to say the same thing Net Hack Slasher just did.
Smackdown titles are named WWE, Raw titles World.

And on a side note, does anybody consider Angle a grand-slam champ now?
I asked a friend of mine yesterday and he said grand slams stopped meaning shit when WCW and WWF became one.
And now even less with the split.

Well, if you ask Road Dogg (although no one does), he'd remind you that the belts have always been "Wooooooooooooooorld."

Tonight stopped being about who is right and who is wrong - it became about two men wanting to prove who the better man is - for YOUR entertainment. And that, my friends, is the credo of SmackDown!"

I thought Michael Cole's commentary was incredible during the Swagger match. He says he's going to do the Swagger Bomb at Wrestlemania.
