Rumors have it that Kellerman and producer Bill Wood (the Disembodied Voice) are trying to get Woody to join them on the new Fox show.

That, I think, would be the final nail in the coffin for Around the Horn, if Woody leaves. Then, there would be no one to control the 800-lb gorilla Mariotti.

I think that ATH would be improved considerably if both Woody and Mariotti left the show. Is it just me, or is Bob Ryan hardly ever on the show anymore? (Today notwithstanding.)

I'm sure it's a combination of Ryan being out covering stuff of late (Final Four and Broons season having just ended), MIchael Holley being the guy that seems to be getting pushed now and perhaps some double secret probation after the Vanderbuilt stuff.

I miss Ryan's weekly visit with Tony, but I'm sure that's not really a surprise.

Actually...I have no problem with Holley, its the other guy they bring in from Boston that's not very good.

That'd be Michael Smith. He's the Boston C-Teamer, Behind Ryan and Holley but ahead of Jackie McMullen on the depth chart.

Woody can go but who would replace him? There is no one from that the region besides him.

I guess they could make the Dallas spot a regular. Or they could use that guy from the Denver Post that looks like Clark Kent.

They do seem to be varying the geographical gimmick lately, with having no Globe guy on and going LA, Denver, Dallas, Chicago a couple times that I've seen.

I agree. I can't stand Woody most days, and Jay Mariotti is so predictible anymore, it seems like the writers and producers simply bait him so that he can say "Michael Jeffrey Jordan" and then Woody can talk about how wonderfully smart he is.

Woody, especially, has become unbearable. The more popular that he gets, the worse he is. He just wants to spout one-liners and take cheapshots at Stat Boy and Mariotti.

ATH used to be a show with some semi-intelligent sports conversation and news. Now it's like almost all other ESPN shows, self-promoting and smug.

Not just a rumor now.

http://www.foxsports.com/ content/view?contentId=2336676

Joining Kellerman as one of the on-air personalities of I, MAX is Bill Wolff, who is also the executive producer of the show. Wolff, who was the disembodied voice and coordinating producer of ESPN's Around The Horn, now takes a significant on-camera role alongside Kellerman.

Also joining the show as a regular contributor is Denver Post sports columnist Woody Paige, who worked closely with Kellerman and Wolff as part of the Around The Horn team.

DAMMIT. Well that's it for Around the Horn for me. Unless they get a new host I'm gonna be a PTI guy from now on. Somebody give me some dap.

edit...Well I guess FSN didn't have the balls go up against ATH or PTI as they're going to run I, Max at 6pm. The show sounds like it's gonna be somewhat like Rome is Burning in a 30 min format. If I, Max is any good it'll be the final nail in the coffin for ATH.

It would have been really ballsy to run the new show at 5, against ATH, but maybe they're waiting to grow the show after debut before moving up against ATH. Of course, going against DP and the early SportsCenter probably won't help ratings either.

Well, I got the feeling today he was gone when he was replaced by the Clark Kent lookalike today.

As for the new show, I'll check it out but I doubt I'll watch it all the time. It's on the same time as SportsCenter and Simpsons reruns.

It pained me to hear about Woody leaving, because he was the main reason to watch ATH. While I'm an decent Reali fan, I believe that they could do better putting not too much thought into it. I was reading the Dallas Morning News online and it looks like ESPN is trying to keep Woody.

http://www.dallasnews.com/ sharedcontent/dws/spt/ columnists/bhorn/stories/ 042404dnspohorn.95977.html

Meanwhile, ESPN refugee Max Kellerman's new 30-minute weekday show debuts on Fox Sports Net on May 10. It's called, I MAX. Fox is hoping to bring one of Kellerman's Around the Horn foils, Denver sports columnist Woody Paige, over as well. ESPN is working to hang onto Paige. The little scuffle should net Paige a seven-figure, multi-year contract no matter which cable network he ultimately signs with.

Woody Paige has said that he's staying with Around The Hor. There's no link to it but he apparently informed all the Woody Paige Ninjas via woodypaige.com.

Yes, I'm one of those ninjas.

If you're one of those ninjas, and he informed everyone on his page, wouldn't there be a link to it? **confused**

Whether he goes or not doesn't really bother me. ATH is on too early for me to watch regularly. When I have seen it, it seemed "meh".

E-Mail From Woody, second hand

So I guess that means they're keeping AtH for a while longer, or why bother?

SEVEN FIGURES....SEVEN FIGURES

GEEEBUS.

Edit: Upon reading Tiger Fans post, this did indeed seem bogus. Seems like I remember TK having a squabble and his salary was around $500k. Maybe it meant worth seven figures in the aggregate....that's possible.

Seven figures? Where did this come from? ESPN is keeping Woody by giving him that a year? I find that hard to believe. They wouldn't pay Max more than $550,000 a year and they're going to offer Woody 7 figures? I love Woody and all, but if he is worth that, I can only imagine what TK & MW are worth....

Max was on Czaban's show last night and said they are still negiotating with "someone" and it was only one of two likely candidates.

I doubt it would be Mariotti, since he has a show on ESPN radio in Chicago. And Ryan too is too tied in with ESPN.

If it's not woody, then who? Holley?

Upon searching the web to find anything out about whether or not Woody would go to Max's new show. Odessasteps' hunch that it would be Holley seems to be dead on. According to this, the deal with Woody was so far along that FSN sent out a press release saying a deal was done, when it wasn't. Here's the link:

Huh. If you switch around the leads from "Daredevil" and "Captain America," you might make two good movies.
