Gamespot has a preview for Wrestlemania X8 for the Gamecube and while the game does look promising, I'm trying not to get my hopes up b/c Yuke's developing the game.

Some interesting things mentioned:
-Stone Cold can perform the Million Dollar Dream!!!!!!!...holy shit!
-Yukes plans to have 42 wrestlers in the final game, which will include characters from the WCW/ECW invasion storyline, and wrestlers from the NWO.
-Right now, there are plans to include 35 match types including single, tag, fatal four-way, hell in the cell, cage, TLC, and royal rumble. WOW!
-There will be no story mode in Wrestlemania X8; instead, a challenge mode will be offered to fill that void. Like RAW on the Exbox.
-The engine is capable of supporting only four characters and the referee onscreen at once, so there won't be any match interference if four characters are already in the ring.

My question is this: if the engine can only have 4 wrestlers on once, what happens when you play the royal rumble? Will it be programmed to have only 3 wrestlers before a new wrestler comes in?

Also, I'm BEGGING that Steve F'n Blackman will be among the 42 wrestlers (I doubt it). Blackman vs RVD in a hardcore match would RULE!

I imagine that Royal Rumbles will be just like those on Wrestlemania 2000 and all the other N64 games. Only 4 guys in at once. When one is eliminated, another comes out. So, in other words, all the wrestling games on the new systems still aren't any better than those on N64.

So, in other words, all the wrestling games on the new systems still aren't any better than those on N64.

That's not fair at all... Just because a system is still yet unable to handle having a number of guys in the ring at once does not change how far games have come. The upgrade on graphics, sound, and moves simply blows me away. Makes me wish I had a few bucks to blow on a new system just to try some of these games out.

It's going to be a long time before a game can seriously handle having 30 guys in the ring at one time without causing it to explode.

It doesn't have a story mode, so, fuck it.

Wrestling games peaked with WM 2000, or Smackdown 2, depending on which engine you prefer, and have gone downhill ever since.

the graphics do look awesome, but graphics do not make a game. It's a shame it doesn't have a story mode, but I guess I can live without it or wait for AKI game. Anyone know what the title is and when it's coming out?

as for the royal rumble mode, I bet the PC can handle way more than the consoles do. shame they don't make wrestling games for the pc.

That article by Gamespot made it sound like the did a lot of things to the control scheme that I just won't like. Damn! I don't want to be playing the Smackdown! games. They suck. I want to be playing No Mercy! ARGH

And just to put in a plug for my favorite series:

Fire Pro S on the Saturn had six human-controllable wrestlers at once. Fire Pro D on the Dreamcast has eight-man rumbles (and eight-man tag matches), up to four of which are human-controllable.

If the game doesn't have Super Delfin in it, it ain't worth sheeit.

I don't like the sound of this "Challenge Mode." It would be better if they just designed it like WM2K, where there wasn't really a story, but rather a long series of cards where your wrestler gets the opportunity to work his way to the top. I don't think that would be too hard to design.

If it's anything like WCW/nWo Revenge's "Challenge Mode", it'll be pretty flat and not that great of a single player game.

Another thing I don't like is the wrestler pics on the "Vs" screen. It doesn't look like it allows for much customization when creating wrestlers. I liked having the 3D wrestlers just standing there on the "Vs" screen, because they could be anybody.

That said, the graphics look mighty impressive and if Austin does the Million $ Dream, then this game could really be a fun one. Plus, it has Hell in a Cell, doesn't it? I mean, the REAL Hell in a Cell, not the SMACKDOWN! 2! one that's a cage with a roof. That should be worth many hours of enjoyment.

But, wrestling games seemed to peak with No Mercy & SMACKDOWN! 2!, IMO. They could get better, because that's evolution, but THQ hasn't put out anything good in the last 2 years now.

My daughter entered her prom dress into a contest on one of our local tv stations websites. She hand made it herself out of Capri Sun juice packets. If you could take the time out to vote for her dress it would be greatly appreciated.
