Last year, I put up a report and it seemed well received ie CRZ didn't yell at or ban me. So, here we go. The big names this year were Bruce Campbell dressed in a white tuxedo, Billy Dee "Shades" Williams, Goldberg, Julie Benz aka Dexter's Wife and Angel's Darla. Notable was Pam Grier, Richard Roundtree, Vicia A Fox and Adam Baldwin, the big dude from Firefly. A lot of people, but Bruce was last year and no one was as big as Patrick Stewart who was there last year.

I get to the convention before 10:00 am, line is already big, doors open at 10. Takes us a half hour to get inside and first person, I hit up is Peter Jurasik, Londo from Babylon 5. Out of the gate, he was awesome and didn't know about the JMS' rumors floating about the B5 return. He said he would rather see Londo in the past, but with Andres gone, it would be tough plus he is old now. I mentioned JMS wanting animators and his eyes light up. Great guy. Next on to Mercedes McNabb, Buffy's Harmony, who looked bored, but was pleasant. Julie Benz's line is pretty much out of control, I give up going after her autograph. After some walking around, I pick the DC Classics Knightfall Batman and Martian Manhunter, the wife gets the 3 Pack GL with squirrel and kitty. We also picked up the Doctor Who Pandorica set minus the Doctor who comes with fez and mop. Of course, he is going for a ton online.

I go back to getting autographs with Margo Kidder who sadly informs us, she liked the Donner cut. I am dismayed and tell her the "General Zod, would care to step outside is one of my favorite lines." She looks ok for her age, but she was spunky with everyone and really that is all you need for Lois Lane. Off to Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca, he was in a wheelchair and looked to have his leg banged up. I asked if he was going to be back in Clone Wars, next year and said he hoped so. I shook his hand and it engulfed mine. At this point, we the place begins to fill up and we decide to step out for food. Reading Market has great food with ok prices, but as always is packed. An hour later, we go back to meet Nicholas Brendan, Xander Harris ie my alter ego. We talk about how great it is to Xander and he was also very funny. I get in the Billy Dee Williams line as my wife buys her Tardis earrings. Billy's signing is at 2:15pm which was just odd. I am trying to catch the 3:25pm train out of Philly, so it was going to be tight. The first 20 people he signs, the line doesn't move which is 15 minute in. My odds look bad for either his autograph or the train. For some weird reason after the 15 minute mark, we begin to move. Suddenly, I am in front of Lando Calrissan who says my recently bought Star Wars DVD set with Mark Hamil's autograph or what I hope is Hamil's autograph. I heard Billy was a bit stand offish, but he was cool with me and took extra time with the kids. I make it the train with enough time to grab a JLU Grey Ghost figure.

This was packed to the rafters. Last year, they had Bruce, Patrick Stewart and ton of Trek guys and you could do what you wanted. I am thinking the Star Wars fanboys raided the place or how awesome last year was turned out gave people some hope. Goldberg's line was pretty big and for $40 a pop, I was a bit surprised. The only peron, I didn't meet was Michael Bein, who played Kyle Reese and Hicks. I could not find him and it was probably ok, because my copy of Aliens is nowhere to be found. All in all, a good day and I am probably going to do Baltimore and NYC depending on the financials which turned out to be pretty good since I really didn't get a chance to spend money due how freaking packed the place was.

I think part of the reason it was so packed this year was because they put it in a smaller hall. Everything felt more cramped together, the lines for autographs went right down the aisles blocking retailer booths instead of in an orderly area elsewhere because they had nowhere else to go.

Also the panel rooms were badly labeled, instead of having the actual room numbers, they just called say, Room 188 "A" and 189 "B," which was confusing.

I only went to one panel and it's just kind of sad how bare-bones the con has gotten over the years. Obviously Wizard itself has gone downhill and the magazine no longer exists, but they used to have multiple panels with different creators and topics, moderated by Wizard staffers or somebody at least. The Green Lantern panel yesterday (which featured 4 artists who aren't even working on GL right now) just had them kinda plop down in front of a room and start taking random questions from the audience.

Last year was much bigger because of Patrick Stewart, for sure.

Other wrestlers in attendance: Raven, Maria, Dawn Marie (and her boobs), Volkov, Virgil of course and Torrie Wilson (who I didn't see). I didn't see Goldberg when I walked past his booth either.

Fun read, thanks for writing it up.

How is Goldberg commanding $40 for an autograph?? He hasn't been relative for a decade.

I wanted to do the Green Lantern Panel, but I ran out of time due to Billy Dee who was also doing $40 a pop. I forgot a funny story. The wife was in line for Sean Patrick Flannery to get Boondocks Saints signed and out of nowhere the Waking Dead kids came over. The African American kid liked my shirt. I told him I would trade it for to be a Zombie on Walking Dead, he laughed and said maybe. I had on a Who Watches the Empire T-Shirt on and everyone was commenting on it. I had one girl take a photo of just the shirt and another girl tried to fondle me. It has now become my lucky shirt.

The Goldberg thing amazes me and doesn't. He has done more then just wrestling, he does the American version of Top Gear or something like it. I figure that keeps him in some sort of spotlight. I also think if you get to be a big as star as he did, you can command that type of cash.
