I watched this at a packed bar last night in mine and Winky's home town of St Pete. Winky utterly destroyed Trinidad with his jab and took every round except the 12th. It wasn't the best fight to watch, but it is amazing to see the defense Winky uses by protecting his head and body with his long arms and jabbing up a storm. I think Tito would've had a chance if he'd of opened up his arsenal a little more...So who's next for my man Winky?
I've got to disagree -- Winky had all 12 rounds. The two judges had to have given Trinidad the 12th round because they were feeling sorry for him. He never even came close to hurting Wright. That defense was too strong for Trinidad. Maybe now he can go home and retire for good...
Why would you want Trinidad to retire for good? He's an exciting fighter, as shown in the vast majority of his bouts. The Mayorga/Tito fight this year was exceptional. Sure he's one dimensional. Sure, his defense is sorely lacking. But he's fun to watch, and as a boxing fan I'm more than happy to tune in.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see where Wright goes to after this. I must confess I'm not a big fan of his, though ya gotta respect his skills!
Trinidad was great five years ago. Trinidad's fight with Mayorga was entertaining, but Mayorga wasn't exactly a superstar and he never gave Tito any trouble. Tito claimed to be coming into the fight with Wright in the best shape of his life, but if that's his best, he shouldn't be in the ring...at least not on PPV. If Tito decides to stick around, which according to reports isn't likely, he'll need a new trainer. Papa Trinidad didn't do him any favors with the lack of advice on Saturday...
