Right now, William Hung is on the Tonight Show. He's got back-up dancers and a band. He's promoting his new CD. He is rocking OUT! He is awful. He is awesome.

I wonder though, if all the flash and polish of a professional touring outfit doesn't diminish some of his naif charm.

Anyone planning on buy the disc "ironically"?

Ok, so the winner of American Idol gets a record deal. Fair enough.

The runner up of American Idol also gets a record deal. If he/she's good, I can accept that.

ANY finalist can snag a record deal. Hey, if they bring the goods, so be it.

An untalented, poor excuse of a singer, who DIDN'T qualify to be on the show gets a record deal, full P.R. treatment, and gets to be on a top talk show.

My heart bleeds for this once great industry.

I think I've already said elsewhere my opinion of KOCH and their relation to the "industry" so I won't bore you by repeating myself. Oops, too late

I've heard worse. Give "See You In Hell" by Grim Reaper a spin sometime. If you can't find it in stores or online, try the CKY3 video, where said song is used in one of their stunts.

Quote of the week!

Once great industry? Sure, the recording industry once in a while gives us a Beatles, a Nirvana, a Tom Waits, a Johnny Cash, but that's hardly the norm.

I'm a firm believer in Sturgeon's Law.
See here: http://info.astrian.net/ jargon/terms/s/Sturgeon_s_Law.html

The same once great industry has churning out crud for a century. Witness these doozies:

Suddenly, Hung doesn't seem so bad.

No way but I downloaded it. It's somewhat funny. I have to admit that I laughed out loud when I heard his version of Hotel California.

Don't worry about him. His 15 minutes are almost over.

I think it's pretty telling that this thread got opened in Random and not Music. And nobody moved it to music, either.

I thought about it, Pieman. But in good conscience, I had to post it here.

Yeah, so? The Mr. T cover is meant as a laugh, William Hung actually has aspirations of an actual career. Nuance, Z.

I dunno. He's not good-looking, not talented, he's got no connections, he's a minority...and he's still makin' a go of it. He's still gonna get a little burst of fame. I'm proud of 'im, in an odd way.

I feel bad for him, almost like hes mentally retarded. I know hes intelligent (I think hes goes to Stanford) but he seems so genuine when he sings, It seems like to me he doesnt realize tthe whole world thinks hes an idiot. Its weird. But if he gets laid for doing this, who am I to Judge?

If you think that, say, the sixties were any different, two words: Mrs. Miller.

I hate the whole "this (insert random form of entertainment) is SO BAD that it's really great and we'll shower it with our attention and love no questions asked" phenomenom. Thank you Generation X.

I find the Hung stuff to be more annoying than unintentionally hilarious and maybe, deep down, that's what makes it hilarious to other people. This kids got another 2 weeks, tops before he goes back to designing rocket engines or computer software or whatever his engineering field is at Berkley(?)
