To try to make this easier, here's an update on where I stand with the trades. I'm trying to make this as non-specific as possible (because I think that's the fair way to be) but if you want me to post who the players are that are being offered and have this turn into an ebay-kind-of-thing, I'll be happy to do so. Also, with Yahoo's silly trade limit deal, this seemed like a good idea.

In no particular order:

Sammy Sosa: got an offer Millar + Drew for Sosa that is the best one so far (he mentioned them by name in his Wiener League post already) that's better than any other offer I got that included Sosa in a package

Randy Johnson: best offer I got so far is from Southern Panthers for three players for Johnson, Todd Walker, and Endy Chavez

Edgar Martinez: Haz Homers has made the best offer so far for two players

Gil Meche: Have a good one-on-one trade offer from Green Mist

Rafael Furcal: Have an offer from Green Mist for three players for Furcal and Mike Williams

Jose Valentin: got a one-on-one trade offer from Scorpions

I'll update this as much as possible to be current.

Edit: It also is becoming apparent that it will be VERY tough for one person to make an offer for several guys, since I'm getting lots of two-for-one and three-for-one offers, so trying to make a big blockbuster trade probably isn't going to be likely as opposed to five or six different ones.

Just keep in mind how big your roster can get. If you take too many 2 for 1s you are going to end up cutting a bunch of people.

Don't end up with too many outfielders

Well, I've got a bunch of crapola on my team (Cirillo, Pena, Miller, et al.) That was part of my whole reason for doing this. Right now I'd be trading 10 guys and getting 13 back.

But you're saying "Wait a sec. What about all of the two- and three-for-one deals?" Well, what I meant was for just the big guys like Sosa and Johnson. I've gotten a few trades with them plus others in HUGE, MEGA-BLOCKBUSTER packages, but they haven't added up to be as good as what people have offered in trades where they just went after one guy at a time.

EDIT: Can I also stress ENOUGH that I'm not necessarily looking for a FAIR deal to trade a guy? Just the BEST deal. If someone offered my Jeff Cirillo for Sammy Sosa, straight up, and nobody made a better offer, I'd make the deal. I said I'd trade ANYONE, and I meant it.

I mention this again because there are a couple of guys that I'm shocked aren't getting more attention, and I DEFINITELY don't want ANYONE complaining if I make a, perceived, unfair deal. All of the deals are fair, because EVERYONE had a chance to make their best offer.

IMPORTANT: These are the best trades I have right now, not trades that have been agreed upon. If I don't get better offers they will stand up, but as of now everyone's got until Monday @ 1:00 to submit bids for any player.

Definitely. Also, I'm going out of town (driving to Portland tonight for the weekend) but I will have the ability to check the league site and here while I'm down there. This has been WAY more fun than anything else I'll be doing this weekend.

Here is the update.

Sammy Sosa + Rafael Furcal: Have an offer for two players from Calgary Hitmen.

If you want to get ONE of them, Guru's Millar + Drew for Sosa and Green Mist's three-for-Furcal + Williams are the best individual deal I've got, but I'd think the most likely scenario is that I'd get a better deal for Furcal, that when packaged with Guru's deal for Sosa would beat the current deal I've got lined up for the both of them. Does that make sense?

Brian Lawrence + Mike Williams: Possible deal with Guru (we were discussing it because of Williams' inclusion in the furcal trade) for two players

LaTroy Hawkins: Have a one-for=one offer from Guru

Also, the Gil Meche, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson (w/Chavez + Walker), Jose Valentin, and Steve Finley deals have not seen ANY movement since this morning.

The more this goes on, the more it looks like everyone else is going to trade themselves into the ground while improving your team.

Well, that wasn't what I'd planned on happening. My original plan was just to take in trade offers, not tell anybody ANYTHING, then just make the best trades on Monday. I figured no one would offer TOO much for anyone if there wasn't active bidding going on. That was the whole reason I called it a "Fire Sale." Unfortunately, the Yahoo trade limit messed that up.

Plus, there's really not that much coming in for offers except for Sosa and Furcal. The other trades will be (mostly) like what I had in mind unless people start similar stuff on those.

When I said I'd trade ANYBODY for the best offer I had received on Monday I figured it would be like posting players like they do in Japan (an analogy I JUST thought of) and that I'd do ok on one or two trades and get killed on others. I don't really care, of course. I was mostly looking forward to seeing if there was any wild fluctations in the standings due to my unloading guys.

Well, a little of it is defensive as well. Sosa has the potential to drop 40 HR through the end of the season. I don't think he's going to do it - but I never expected these numbers out of Millar. I'm sort of projecting that the Red Sox will fold and that Millar will wilt as part of it. Of course, that doesn't explain picking up Varitek so maybe I'm just insane.

I've pulled my Millar and Drew off of the table at this point, and I'm making a move on Furcal, Williams, and B-Law with a 3 person trade. I don't think it's going to be good enough though... we'll see. It's a pretty fair trade, actually - I could come out on the bad side of it if it goes through. I'm offering Worrell, Wakefield, and Larkin. Again - this only works out for me if the Red Sox fold up... but I'm a student of history. The odds are on my side.

Since I don't care if you know - my offer for Hawkins is Valverde - who could be a huge mistake on my part if Mantei goes down again - but prevailing wisdom is that he's not going to be the closer this season (keep his name written down for next year's league though).

Hey nobobody said *I* have to play by the rules. Besides, if someone outbids that stuff - they are probably killing themselves. I'm probably offering too much at this point as it is.

I hate Ebay, too

I've gotten some trades that, if they were just offered to me, I'd probably have done them, including Guru's Furcal proposal. Actually naming Valverde and Hawkins will help me make a point:

Hawkins is ranked 90th, Valverde is 776th, which seems really low but he only has 18 strikeouts. Unless Valverde is this year's K-Rod, his ERA and WHIP will likely go up and he won't get many more saves unless Mantei gets hurt again, which could easily happen, I guess, but I wouldn't count on it. I'd likely not make this trade if I were trying to improve my team, but it's the only offer I've got for Hawkins, so if I don't get a better one I'll make the deal Monday.

So far I've gotten similar offers for guys with value. I've got 12 guys in proposals so far and I'll trade 'em all Monday, unless people decide they don't want them.

Just an innocent bystander here, Valverde's K/IP ratio is pretty good. Sure, he *only* has 18 k's, but they've come in just 14 innings. It doesn't appear that he'll get sent down anytime soon. His whip will probably go up due to some walks, but his ERA shouldn't go up TOO much. I think at worst, he'll be the primary setup man for Mantei (taking over for Koplove-who is on his second DL stint of the season). And then you have the Matt Mantei injury factor. As has been mentioned, it is VERY likely that his stint on the DL won't be his last, but stranger things have happened. Of course, I believe this is the same guy that cut his thumb opening a can of dog food two years ago and missed a good two months of the season.

OK, I'm hitting the road, so I'll check back later. Here is the latest update. If any of these are incorrect, let me know. AND, if you sent me a proposal, I'm assuming you want to make the trade unless you tell me you don't.

EDIT: This list is current as of 9:45 pm PDT.

Sosa + Furcal to Calgary Hitmen for two players
Johnson, Chavez, and Walker to Southern Panthers for three players
Valentin to Scorpions for one player
Lawrence + Williams to TooManyPadres for two players
Meche, Martinez, and Finley to the Isotopes for four players

EDIT: Argh. With the 4th traffic my usual two-and-a-half hour drive to Portland took nearly FIVE hours! But I've got an offer for Meche, Martinez, and Finley for four players from the Isotopes.

Also, Guru pulled the Hawkins deal because he's up for the other one. So there are NO standing offers for him right now.
