Oh, joy. Once again, it's time for the Royal Rumble. A match so pointless one would only wonder why it even exists at all.

You start out with 30 Superstars, most of them midcarders and jobbers, with only 3, maybe 4 main-eventers, and if we're lucky, some surprise entries.

So, one by one the midcarders, enter the ring, and eliminate each other, and I'm enjoying myself until...

"CRASH!" The glass shatters...

or "Motorhead" starts up...

or The Rock screams "IF YOU SMELL...!"

or the gong rings, and you hear "Dead Man Walking"...

...then you know the match has gone to pot. Here come the Main-eventers! Hooray, hooray! They run down the ramp and start clearing the ring in all of 2 minutes. More midcarders try to eliminate the Main-eventers, but to no avail.

Pretty soon, the last Superstar throws his opponent over the ropes and wins. Who could the winner be? Is it a rising star who will bring new hope to this company?

HELL NO! It's the Main-Eventer who will face the Champion at WrestleMania!

Some things I've learned from this annual Royal Rumble disaster...

Number One: This match constantly dashes my hopes of seeing The Hurricane or Matt Hardy in the WrestleMania main event.

Number Two: If you're gonna have a Main-Eventer win the Rumble every year, this year, why not get rid of the "30 men" rule and have a 5-Man Elimination match!

Number Three: If Stone Cold really is coming back at the Rumble, can you people at the WWE make it so he loses? How many Rumbles has that guy won?

And so concludes my little rant about why I hate the Royal Rumble, a pathetic waste of good PPV time in my eyes.

Imagine Dingbat doing babytalk: philosphosize upon your inner warrriorness...(baby)waahh....(Dingbat)destructivity and iglooitis seem to be deterrring the inner warrior from enveloping you....(baby) waahh....(Dingbat)magnodestructivation will be your salvation...(wife) the baby wants its bottle....(Dingbat) that was the message I was conveying to the greatness of warriorness in it magnanimous omnipotent hemotoma.

You need the Rumble to teach you that this will never happen? No wonder you hate it.

I have mixed feelings about the Rumble. It's a fun gimmick and everything, but it seems to mean little compared to singles matches. I don't know why...it seems like those "random tag team generator" matches where it doesn't matter who wins. It only matters who wins the singles showdown at the PPV. That's how I feel about the Rumble.

It does have some fun moments, though. Last year, I was marking out for Mr. Perfect and Maven. The whole Hardyz vs. Undertaker subplot was great.

Plus, they usually throw in a good title match. Last year it was Jericho vs. The Rock, which was absolutely awesome.

I loved the Rumble last year! I knew who was likely to win it anyway, so I didn't hang a lot of expectations on it. I just sat back and had fun. If they do anything as wild this year as Maven eliminating Undertaker, I'll love it again. I'm chuckling just thinking about the expression on Taker's face when he landed outside the ring--I'd better go dig up the tape!

They really do need to get rid of that ridiculous "winner gets a shot at the Wrestlemania Main Event/Title Shot" garbage. Yeah, I understand that it gives the Royal Rumble winner something to shoot for, but damn. Why even have Funaki in it then? The King of the Ring was cool before they introduced the whole title shot thing. Why can't the winner of the Rumble just be The Winner of the Rumble. It seems to be that the Wrestlemania Main Event can do without that minor plot device. Hell, it mike make for more interesting stories.
I love the Rumble, but on that point, I agree with the Great Thomas. It is cut and dry that only the "Main Eventers" will win the damn thing. The whole original point of the Rumble was that ANYONE could win it, because of its nature.
Damn it... Matt Hardy winning it WOULD be sweet this year.

The main eventers SHOULD be the only ones winning the thing.

First of all, it's the best running gimmick match in forever, because it gets alot of people out on PPV and mixes in some fun stories and wrestlers. The crowd loves it (the anticipation, who will be next?).

Second, it has the opportunity to push at least two midcard wrestlers (The "Kevin Nash" most eliminations, and the "Ric Flair" longest entry), plus there are alot of fun mid-match story lines (i.e. Maven eliminating Undertaker) that can give the lower card guys a chance to shine.

Thirdly, the main event guys have to win. By it's very nature, it's an end of the show deal. How dissapointed would you be if you went through a great night of wrestling action, and Test or Nunzio was the last man standing? Yeah, one or two years it'd be neat to see a "surprise" winner, but I guarentee you after that, you'll start questioning the WWE's decision ("Why the hell did Chavo win the Rumble, instead of Angle or Brock?")

Fourth, it's a great story-line device. Guys all fighting to get a shot at the world title at the biggest show of the year. That makes WrestleMania that much more special, and it adds to the stories of the guys who are trying to get the shot. So, if Brock can't get a title shot against Angle UNLESS he wins the stip at the Rumble (which not even Heyman can deny), suddenly it makes his participation that much more special, each near elimination that much scarier for his fans. You could say that that makes it more predictable as well, and I guess you're right, but that doesn't make it any less of a good story.

Besides, as Vince McMahon proved, the winner of the Rumble doesn't necessarily have to go on to WrestleMania. There IS another PPV in between, also, at which time a title shot could be put up for grabs.

Finally, it's good TV. It's a fun match. It's a crazy match. Things happen very quickly and very wildly at the Rumble, which makes it tremendous fun (for me at least) to watch.

this is the best time of the year in the WWE. From the rumble to WM. Mostly cause u wonder what the main event will be. Ok last year we all knew it would be Austin - Rock, but if they can do the same build up as this years where Jericho and HHH main evented WM then it will be great. Jericho - HHH match sucked but the buildup was amazing.

You got to keep the Royal Rumble. It's one of the few gimmicks that actually makes this PPV not just another PPV. (Heck, I wished they would keep doing the Survivor Series matches, at least it's different.) And why not for all the marbles. I think it works out great.

If your enjoyment of WWE is predicated on Matt Hardy and/or Hurricane being in a Wrestlemania main event, I'm going to let you on a little secret...Matt Hardy and Hurricane will NEVER be in the main event of ANY PPV, much less Wrestlemania!!!!! You can move on now.

Last year, I nearly threw my television out of the window after Rob Van Dam and Booker T (Both who got huge pops, especially RVD. I mean, a whole minute before he even enters the match, and the fans are already chanting RVD) got eliminated in a matter of 1 or 2 minutes. Worst Rumble moment, ever!

If you're this confident you can predict the future, would you mind telling me what my next raise will be?

Seriously, counting a guy like Matt Hardy out at his age is pretty pointless. I don't know too many people who thought one of the Rockers would ever go on to be WWF Champ, either.

You're not getting a raise, I'm sorry.

Well, I wouldn't hold my breath.

But at any rate, it's not the Royal Rumble that's keeping Hurricane and/or Matt Hardy away from the main event.

I'll agree with you on RVD. I'll disagree about Booker T. His exit spot was among the stupidest spots in the business, but it was also one of the most fun. Would I have liked him to stay in longer before literally being Stunnered out? Yes. But that spot makes up for his short stay in my opinion.

I liked what they did with the Rumble last year. They had one or two big names in the middle, but then they put out the biggest names towards the end. When was the last time someone the stature of Booker T was the last man in the Royal Rumble? I mean, it's better than X-Pac (who once was the 30th man).

Why do I watch? Because every episode has the potential to be the best one ever, and I'll be DAMNED if I'm gonna miss that one after sitting through this shit.

Dude, what the fuck are you smoking? You call Jericho being made into an errand boy, dogs getting run over and constant talk about anything BUT the Undisputed title an amazing buildup?
