I'm sure tonight HHH will have a long promo explianing why he turned on HBK. What reason do you think they will give for him turning on him?

Was it because:

HBK didn't want to be his manager
He didn't want to be in HBK's shadow
HBK let him get punished for the MSG incident
HBK stole his steroid needle

Remember when HHH left Shawn for dead back in 1998 and he got his head thrown through a windshield?

It's been over six years and HHH has already had some measure of revenge, especially since HBK has been retired from in-ring competition since then. If WWE uses this as the "reason," that's pretty weak.

I think it may be because HBK wanted to pack his bags and go home, "like Austin did." HHH needs to find new ways to smear Austin's image so that he can get into all of those backstage production meetings, after all.

Could someone help clue me in regarding the history of this? Are there links to threads on wienerville that discuss this? Or perhaps some links to web sites that cover the history? i started watching wwf in late 1999 and I missed a lot of the old good stuff. Does anyone have a good starting point time wise if i wanted to look up the history? As i am writing this i realized I could look at CRZ's recaps for RAW going back several years.

Edit:after i posted this i did some looking on google and found a guy who sells tapes. he has what looks like a nice little rundown on the history of DX for one of his tapes. for anyone interested it's:

I don't think there's a well-documented story on this anywhere, unless you can find any old Observers from 1996.

In any case, the Clique (Hall/Nash/HBK/HHH with Waltman as their zany sidekick) ruled the WWF main event scene from 1994 - 1996 until Hall & Nash left for WCW, where they inevitably started the nWo.

At the time, HBK was the #1 babyface (after usurping Bret), Nash was the hated heel on his way out, Razor was the face on his way out, and HHH was just some midcard heel.

Their last night in the WWF was an MSG show in May or April of 1996. It had a double header of, not coincidenally, HBK vs Nash in a cage and HHH vs Razor. HHH beat Razor and HBK beat Nash, since they were sticking around.

After the show, in an expression of love to themselves (and maybe some fans, too), they (all four) embraced in the caged ring for a moment or two, which totally broke the face/heel boundaries that were really important to Vince at the time. Vince was really upset about this and someone had to pay. Since HBK was seen as enormously popular by Vince (since HBK was really in his ear at this time), he was hard to punish. Hall & Nash were on their way out and there was nothing that could contractually be done to them.

So, HHH took all of the heat and jobbed to a bunch of people before winning KOTR in 1997 and going on to ruin wrestling in the present-day time.

I think HHH is gonna cite the MSG incident. They've been advertising that as a big part of his "The Game" DVD that just came out. You know the commercial with him yellling at Jim Ross "it tears a hole in my stomach every day." I just hope he gives mention and maybe a little video tribute to the hogpen match.

I'd put my money on it being Brock, that is if I had any.

He did it for Booker T because Trips knows that HBK wouldn't job to a Black man, or to anybody else for that matter.

I don't think they need to bring up any old history. This is one of the rare occasions of the WWE doing something shocking that actually makes sense:

At Vengeance, HHH was ready to sign with Smackdown out of his intense desire not to work for Bischoff. HBK came down and tried to talk him out of it, citing the fact that they could once again raise hell and dominate the RAW brand. (He didn't come right out and mention DX, but it was more than implied.)

The next night, Bischoff opened the show celebrating the major coup he pulled off - the signing of HHH. He brought both Hunter and Michaels to the ring, and made the announcement that HBK was to become HHH's manager, which is when Michaels flipped out and quit. HHH tried to talk him out of it, but he said he was leaving anyway.

This left HHH on RAW (where he didn't want to be), without HBK (who was the only reason he signed, who abandoned him five minutes into their run).

In HHH's mind, he didn't even turn on MIchaels, Michaels already turned on him an hour beforehand. Trust me, it makes sense.

Jeebus, I think some people NEED the Sledgehammer of Plot.

the way Eric kept saying things like "Whenever you see this man, HHH- Shawn Michaels will not be far behind..."
It looked like HBK was getting a little pissy about it- about being forever attached to/ and in the shadow of HHH.
I bet Hunter brings up the MSG incident, and the fact that he spent years in HBK's shadow. Now HBK doesn't want to return the favor... something to that affect.

But God man, I hope Michaels talks about the Chin Music he gave to Rock to help HHH win the title on Smackdown.

Michaels didn't help him win the title that time on Smackdown! Hunter already had it, and Michaels just helped him retain it via sweet chin music as the special ref. they were set to become a group again with Shane Mcmahon, but Michaels was gone off TV for another six months or so by the following week, and it wasn't spoken of again. Then Michaels was the special ref for the HHH/Rock Ironman match, in which HHH regained the title. In that switch, however, Michaels played an unbiased ref, so they couldn't really say that he ever "helped" HHH win a WWF title.

I agree with OFB. HBK was about to leave HHH on Raw. This pissed HHH off because HBK was the only reason he signed with Raw in the first place. A WWE storyline actually makes sense! I'm shocked.

I seem to recall HBK saying that he din't mind being Triple H's manager, being in his shadow, etc. He just didn't want to do it as an order from Bischoff.

It's more likely that we'll find out HHH was allied with Bischoff all along; that seems to be ultimate explanation for most WWE storylines, though I prefer the ideas in this thread.

I hope its because of the MSG incident, but it'll probably be because of Michaels "walking out" earlier last week.

Big Show would be just the man to use if you want thousands in attendance, and the millions watching at home, collectively shrug with a tired, "Eh."

I'm not saying it'd be a better story, but my money is on Team Canada. Payback for Montreal, right there.

I gotta agree for the same reasons you said, but also because I think the fed is set on pushing the Canadians big. Which, by the way, is a GOOD thing. (smiles to self)
