I really respect Shaq and Kobe as basketball players and I love Phil as a coach, but when a team gets that aura of invincibility around them, people just want to see the underdogs put them in their place. I guess that's why I personally hated the Dallas Cowboys of the mid-90's and the Atlanta Braves of the whole decade.

Oh, and growing up a Celtics fan doesn't help either. Those were the good ole days.

I didn't like Wilt, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor or Gail Goodrich. I didn't like Jabbar (or even Lew Alcindor when he was in Milwaukee), Jamal Wilkes, James Worthy, Kurt Rambis, Norm Nixon or Magic. I don't like Shaq, Kobe or Phil.

In general, I have never liked any LA team at any time in any sport. And I didn't like them before I lived in Northern California either - guess it goes back to my mother going to Cal and not liking UCLA & USC.

Hell, my younger brother lives in Hermosa Beach and I don't like him either but I do still plug his movie company.....

Ya hated Rambis!?!? I hate the Lakers just as much as the next guy, but I really liked Rambis. That man's heart was 100x bigger than the speck of talent he possessed. I wish the Celtics would have had a guy like him, but instead we were stuck with stiffs like Greg Kite and Fred Roberts.

I have to say that I don't hate the Lakers, but I really agree with chuckc. I just want to see something new...

In fact, I find their ability to turn it up when they need to very impressive.

Pull for the underdog, though...

It's simple - I hated the Lakers and anyone who wore their uniform - if Rambis had been a Knick I would of loved him but he wasn't so I didn't.

Teams very often are perceived as carrying the reputation of their cities. New York teams are "gritty" and/or "arrogant", Indiana "fundamentally sound", etc. Utah had to do a lot of work to shed the choirboy reputation :-) So a successful L.A. team is naturally seen as obsessed with appearances, endorsement contracts, etc... most people who hate the Lakers say they're "arrogant" or "pretty boys".

Also, people have always hated Shaq. To me, Shaq is a really funny guy, and as a player, he has improved immensely in almost every area (post moves, passing, defense). But to a lot of people, he is a lug who can't hit a free throw and only is good because he's big, and I don't think that will change even if he wins 12 championships.

Wow, I had no idea everyone's hatred for the Lakers was so deep rooted. And I'm still disappointed that no one has come forward to support them with me. Am I really the ONLY Laker fan on the whole board?

I know it hurts, but no team in the NBA can beat my Los Angeles Lakers in a best of 5 or 7 series.

I'd like to help you, Good Frosty sir, but yes, even I don't like the Lakers. Something about Kobe makes me want to punch him and not stop punching him. The rest of the team I either like or don't care about. Shaq is good people, and I have a soft spot for Madsen. Stupid Stanford Cardinal teams of the late 90s...

Of course, the only hometown team I still like is the Dodgers, and even then, they try SO HARD to make me hate them. Well, I suppose all of the UCLA teams are cool, but yeah, obviously.

Chris-Not dumb enough to run around town yelling about how much Kobe sucks, though.

I hate Shaq; therefore, I hate the Lakers.

And as the world's only remaining Jazz fan, I still hate the Bulls, too.

Hey, I'm a big Jazz fan.

Although, if Stockton and Malone are gone next year...

I hate the NBA. The NCAA is where it's at. The ACC more specifically. So if I have to watch the NBA, I go for whoever has more ACC team members that I can remember
-Jag

Tim Duncan rocks. He managed to take down everybody else in the ACC, and put the Deacons on top. Down with the Lakers.

Sorry, no support here either dude... I don't like the Lakers, either.

There are a few reasons. Kobe Bryant, to me, comes off as being a spoiled brat-- and looked a lot like an asshole during his mini-feud with Shaq. Had I been Shaq, I would have put the little punk in his place.

I'm probably the only non-Lakers fan who actually does like Shaq-- most of the time. When he's not bitching about all the cheap fouls he receives, acting as if he himself hasn't thrown a few blatant elbows and gotten away with them. He's a funny guy, and I like him, except when he bitches at people. And dammit, if Brad Miller had been a Pacer during their altercation earlier this year, I would have enjoyed watching one of our guys knock Shaq on his ass. (We shouldn't have gotten rid of Dale Davis. Nobody screws with him.)

Another thing is the domination. You know something brother, I'm getting sick and tired of hearing the Eastern Conference getting dogged just because the Lakers and Kings and Mavericks are so damn good. The Eastern Conference, inside the conference, is more competitive than those three assclowns.

I'm rooting for the Kings to get past the Lakers in the West, and for the Celtics to win the East. And then, sorry Zed, I'm pulling for #17 for the Celtics, despite the Kings' long suffering.

Speaking as someone from "middle America/the Southeast" (Kentucky is one of those "tweener" states no-one wants to claim - sometimes with good reason) I can't bring myself to like any team from New Yawk or El Ay (altho the NY Rangers and LA Kings hockey jerseys rule!).

With all the Kentucky players on the Celts, I gotta go with them, which means the Lake Show beats the Nets in the finals. Grrrrr.

Sorry Frosty.
