No-one's started a whodunit thread! OK, I will...

The suspects:

The really, really, really obvious suspect -- The Big Show:
Big Show is practically walking around carrying a sign saying "I'm guilty". If this were a mystery novel, or even an episode of _Diagnosis Murder_, I might says that he's too obvious, and must be a red herring, but in wrestling, obvious is sometimes good.

The pure and innocent suspects -- Booker T alone, or Booker T and Goldust together:
They're the good guys, they couldn't have done it, right? More importantly, why would they want to turn Booker when he is so much more over as a face than he ever was as heel? After all, he would want to resolve any problems with Shawn face to face, not in some parking lot ambush, right? Of course, that's exactly what HHH said to Stone Cold...

But, I did it for you! -- Goldust alone:
In other words, the same basic angle they tried to pull off with Rikishi and the Rock. Goldust confesses that he attacked Michaels because of the true, pure love he has for the Book, Booker says, "who asked for your help, anyway?" and you have an instant Goldust/Booker feud.

The politically motivated suspects -- The Unamericans:
They said that they had one more thing to do, and then they weren't shown again. My wife's first guess was that the one thing they had left to do was a menage-a-trois. I think that they are just a red herring, and will say that the "one thing" was to help Jericho beat down Flair, but Jericho turned them down.

The detective did it! -- HHH:
What if HHH is just pretending to be so upset about this? After all, he did run Stone Cold down with a car...

The non-suspect -- Jericho or anybody:
After I ran down my list of suspects, my wife said, "Maybe it was Jericho?" Jericho didn't have a motive, but he didn't have a motive for trying to cripple Edge either, he's just ornery that way. Anybody could have done it just for the hell of it...

So, what do you all think?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the Un-American's will be used as pawns by a Triple H loking for answers. I don't think we'll see Shawn until Summserlam. And I think we're gonna' have Taker/HHH against the Un-American's. Shawn interfere's at Summerslam costing Taker and Triple H and we find out it was Triple H all along. And thus begins Triple H heel megapush again, anew.

Actually, now that Michaels isn't with DX he's awesome again. Plus, I loved his promo last night and I was surprised to NOT see any "That promo was disrespectful to Bret" posts yet. They're coming I'm sure. Becasue the words disrespectful and the last name Hart go together like bread and butter on the 'net.

But, I hope I'm wrong about the Triple H thing. Either way it's compelling tv. And I've actually just come to accept Triple H's role. I still hate the guy, but this storyline's good for now. And his promo was decent last night.

Kevin Nash did it.

Because he was pretty much chucked aside by Michaels in favour of HHH.

SOK (hailing from Calgary, AB), quietly says:My vote's for the one that's probably not listed:

BOOKER T and BIG SHOW

The reason for being is this: Book was kicked out of the nWo by Shawn, and Show received the superkick...but Book wasn't assaulted by Book. Considering how pissed Book looked, and how annoyed Show was, those two could easily have done it.

I have to hand it to Vince and Co. I mean, just when I think the WWE couldn't get any worse, they have to start with great storylines like this.

My second choice was the ANTI- or UN-AMERICANS. When these guys said there was one last thing to do, what was that? My first thought was that they were to interfere in the Flair/Rock match. Another thought was that they were going to do some backstage thing with Benoit. After seeing Shawn down, it struck me -- he was ragging on Storm, Christian and Test at the beginning of the show.

I don't think it was HHH. I marked out a bit when Bischoff broke kayfabe and bugged HHH about his stroke. The f-bomb that Trip dropped sounded really harsh. I think the WWE should keep this angle going, where nobody touches Shawn except for him.

Between the Anti-Un-Americans and Booker-Show...It would be Booker Show...considering the push that Booker's been receiving over the past few weeks.

Any comment?

There is a thread here on Weinerville expressing discomfort at Shawn's promo (by BretHart1985). I don't see Triple H as the mastermind here. At least I hope not. It wouldn't make sense business-wise or story-wise. First, if anyone is the mastermind, it's probably Bischoff. Second, the UnAmericans are doing great on their own, and the only likely additions at this point are Jericho and Benoit (with Regal as an outside shot). The reason it doesn't make sense for business is twofold: it makes the UnAmericans look like they need help, and they're valuable as strong heels, and we've seen this before with Who-Ran-Over-Austin-It-Was-Rikishi-Wait-Whose-Hand-Was-That-Wielding-The-
Sledghammer-Oh-My-God-It-Was-TripleH.

Yeah, but Booker and Show recently faced each other and had a mini-feud. I don't see it making much sense. Why would Show team with a guy who kicked his ass?

As for Nash, I don't see a motive. Michaels didn't kill nWo, Vince did. That and Nash is hurt in storylines (they talked about it on tv, right?). There's no way a one legged man could have done that much damage to Michaels, no matter how many ass-kicking contests he won.

I don't think it's Show for a simple reason - if Show had been the one to throw Michaels into the side window of that car, Shawn wouldn't have dented a small hole in it, he would've gone THROUGH it. He wouldn't have been lying on the pavement, he would've been lying on the front seat of the car.

That being said, I don't know who did it. As Marge Simpson would say, everybody's a suspect. Right now, I'd say Test.

As per Booker Show: SHow could have softened Shawn up and Booker put his head through the window.

About the mini-feud: Remember when Triple H and Stone Cold teamed up? Stone Cold nearly killed HHH and yet they teamed up to win the tag titles? What about steph as the GM of Smackdown? If I remember correctly, she tried to put Vince out of business with the dumb InVasion angle.

Something to consider, I guess

It's Kane.

I don't know why, but it's the perfect way to re-introduce the freak.
I first suspected Nash, but he won't be back for like six months. There's no way they're planning that far ahead.
I don't think it's anyone on the roster...that would be anti-climactic. I think it's a returning star, and Kane is next up to return.

Maybe he'll kill Big Show next week? Maybe its revenge against the nWo and Shawn was the closest thing to X-pac?

Naw, it'll be waaaaay more non-sensicle than this!

giving the writers some credit for maintaining character intergrity:

Vicious sneak attacks in the parking lot just aren't Big Show's style.

what i think happened:

Show overhears Michaels. Show tells his new best friend Bischoff, who in turn tells HIS new best friends The Canadiens. They punk out Shawn as payback for his remarks about Bret (and also because, well, that's what heels do)

All other suspects are a stretch, eh?

i dont know anybody who wouldn't totally mark out like a little bitch if next week it cut to the back and it's the unamericans conferring about the situation, nodding in their knowledge of who did it, looking over, and seeing bret freakin' hart smiling. he shakes the un-american's hands and goes off on a tirade about shawn's bullshit and turns it into an america-bashing ceremony.

COME ON! HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE?! of course, it won't happen because there could be no pay-off and the whole bret stroke issue thing would prevent it (get well soon!!!), but still, oh man... it would be all over because nothing could top that moment.

maybe it's just me.

Eh ... I can't agree with the Kane theory.

I figure Taker's due to get his ass handed to him again by the UnAmericans next week, leading to a dramatic and triumphant return by Kane to save his brother. It would pop the crowd huge, and god forbid, if the Fed's writers don't fuck things up, it would give Christian and Storm INSTANT credibility with the tag belts if they could successfully defend against the Brothers Grimm at the PPV.

As for the suspects, I mean, SHIT, the WWF actually did a really nice (if not obvious) job of setting up a ton of possible candidates. HHH, the Big Show, BookDust, and the UnAmericans are all possibilities, and there's always the chance that Bischoff himself could be behind it. ...

***Though he'd lump with the UnAmericans, I could feasibly point a finger at my Paragon of Virtue Y2J as well, seeing as no one knew he was at the arena until the Flair chairshot***

... On a different note ... I know most folks will say it was self-serving on a character building note and all ... But to me, when HHH told Bisch "Fuck you" last night, it really came off well. I mean, I never saw it coming, and while it was unnecessary, it really did (to me, anyways) add an unexpected bit of intensity to things.

It was the Island Boyz. They are Bischoff's enforcers, and did it to "entertain" him.

The Island Boys thought Shawn was Tony Little. (Deion, help me out here.)

They went medieval on him 'cause they bought that crazy Gazelle machine and DIDN'T LOSE ANY WEIGHT!

I never thought of that. But, I'm not so sure.

Me, personally, I think if ANYONE'S going to beat up Michaels over looking like Tony Little, it'll be the Genius Randy Poffo. I mean, he's actually IN those Gazelle infomercials. I guess the reason being, is that Randy hasn't seen dime one from doing that shill for the Gazelle. So, don't count the Genius off the list of suspects.

OR, and this is a stretch, OR the person who beat up Michaels was, yep, you guessed it, Tony Little himself! For months the debate had been going on and finally it came to a head at a mutual friends pool party when Shawn told Tony that he was "stealing his look," after which, he then told Tony to "get a new look." When Tony said he hadn't stole Shawn's look, he then asked Michaels to get his own look. Michaels responded with, "I have a look. Chocolate love! One hundred percent!" Shawn snapped his fingers and rumor had it Tony left upset. (credit to this argument going to the Buck and Becky fight scene in Boogie Nights)

You know, everybody here is forgetting one thing.

the Dark Horse

Now, while the list is plausible enough with Booker, Goldust, Show, HHH, and the Un-Americans, this is wrestling.

As such, I put two more names on the chopping block.

Two names that aren't very busy right now.

Goldberg

One, the followup is perfect. Remember "The Heated Exchange" incident between Billy and Trips a while back? Well, what better way to force HHH into that "fight" than to whack his best friend. Thus, the Goldberg theory has some weight behind it, because on top of having a little history with HHH, he's on the free market AND has a history of breaking car windows.

Scott Steiner

Now, the reason I throw Steiner into the mix. Steiner is cruel and would do that type of thing without provocation. However, I'd think it kinda lame if Steiner were behind it. No real backstory, and if you wanna fuck with people when just getting into a company, fuck with midcarders.

No matter what, though, we're all gonna go "Lame" by the time this is all finished, unless there's some damn good writing on deck.

In the name of good taste, I will no longer say anything about people who run wrestling websites and cats.

My 2 theories

I think they're going to let this play out a little like they did to the Who Ran Over Stone Cold story. Right now there probably isn't a definate person who did the deed. In the next few weeks Book, Show, the UnOverAmericans, and HHH will all get a chance to prove their innocence. Then whoever the bookers think will get the most out of being the culprit will be the one who did it.

or

HHH plays innocent and then turns by joining up with the "wifeswapper" and we actually get a HBK/HHH match.

(edited by Santa Sangre on 30.7.02 1248)

I'd put my money on it being HHH, that is if I had any.

If it ends up being HHH who did it, then this angle is stupid as hell.
Why would a monster like HHH beat up Shawn and then try to cover it up by going to the ring and cutting a promo, then acting all concerned and cursing at Bischoff for his flippant attitude?
HHH supposedly will do anything to keep his heat. What better way to kill his heat than to portray him as a hit-and-run coward? There's no way he would go for that. It's somebody else.
The obvious choices are Big Show, BookDust, HHH himself and the UnAmericans. It won't be any of them.

I have to agree with the people that think it is not one of the people they tried to make obvious last night.

i.e. not Booker, Golddust, Big Show, HHH, Anti-Americans

It's not the Island Boyz, they are too busy beating up 8- year old women (yeah, like that will generate heat!!)

It is someone new that Bishoff is bringing in....

I don't profess to have a clue as to who it is, but I think in the end it was Bishoff who ends up being behind it all...
