Fan-Fucking-Tastic!!!!

Words cannot describe how wonderful this is. After months of griping to anyone who gave a crap about how I had no interest in playing FFXI, and thought that the MMORPG was not something I was looking forward to, now I have something to look forward to.

I don't know how much I'd think that I'd get into a story just about Yuna, but damned if I'm not excited at the prospect.

Fan-Fucking-Tastic indeed!

On the negative side, there's really no other playable characters in the screens. A Final Fantasy about JUST Yuna. I'm still excited, but...Uh...Just Yuna. I don't know. Promise me I won't need to use any physical attacks...

SPOILERS (For those who haven't finished FFX or don't want to know ANYTHING about the new Final Fantasy, I suggest not reading ahead. The spoilers for the new FF are pretty tame, but I do talk about the ending to FFX, so unless you want it spoiled, stop reading...

In Other News (again, Mild Spoilers ahead):

According to some sites I have visited the game is currently only slated for a Japanese-only release in Spring 2003 (giving us the shaft, which I pray doesn't happen) and is the first of two planed sequels.

This game will feature Yuna, as she gets antsy for more adventuring two years after her experience in Final Fantasy X. She will have, in the course of the game, two as-yet-unidentified companions, as well as a new "Active Mode Combat System". Whatever that means. Eventually, as in all good adventure games, Yuna gets called on to save Spira again.

Apparently after the defeat of Yu Yevon, machines are running wild all over Spira, and you can re-visit most of the places you did in the first game (with new additions of course), as well as new X-2 specific locations. Nowhere is technology more evident in the game art than when it shows Yuna holding her new weapon: Frickin' Guns. She has two pistols as her new weapon. Forget what I said earlier about not wanting her in combat.

In another addition, taking off of Kingdom Hearts, you will now be able to jump. Jumping puzzles. Oh, boy! (Actually, I wonder now whether or not "Active Combat" isn't what we have in Kingdom Hearts, only here it'll be with guns...I dunno).

In one of the production pictures, it shows Yuna wearing a necklace very similar to the one Tidus wore in FFX, which is kind of cute. See, death CAN work in storylines!

In any event, the Sequel to this (FFX-3?) will apparently be the story of what happens to Rikku after FFX wraps up. Should we expect a Lulu, Wakka, and Kimhari game too?

I should have listened to spf2119 about HHH because he is the smartest Wiener around.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (1-5) - Well on our way back to 1-15.
Badgers (5-3) - Apparently the Motto is now "Wisconsin: Seeing How Many Close Games We Can Lose"
Twins (OUT) - Oh well, if we're still around next year...
Buffy 7.4 earns a 6.123 Out of 10 for being contrived and rather stupid. But at least the characters are less annoying than last season. And next week: All Anya, All the Time.

Let me go on record as saying that Rikku is one hot babe.

Anyway...

I can't imagine really getting too much into a Wakka or Lulu game, to be honest. Didn't particularly care for Lulu, and Wakka... ehh. An Auron or Kimahri-inspired game would simply rock all, though. Kimahri rules.

Something I'm concerned about is this: Will Final Fantasy X-2 (and any other FFX spin-offs) actually be games in their own right, or more like supplemental games? Interesting question to ponder.

Regardless, I'm snatching up X-2 if the price is reasonable. Of course, I have several months left to salivate about it.

But in the meantime, I'll have Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and WWE SmackDown! 4. If I'm not at work, odds are I'll be in my room, playing one of those two games.

Even better is the news about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy: The Crystal Chronicles. Square is back with Nintendo and is designing new games with a vengance. I hear they're even making a new Secret of Mana game, though I may be off on that...

Final Fantasy: The Crystal Chronicles is for GameCube, but you can use your GBA link cable to use the GBA as a controller. When you do this all your status info is displayed on the GBA screen and you can play in multiplayer battles. That way only you can see your info and you need to tell your friends when you need healing and things like that. It sounds great!

Renegade, the bishonen master says:

Yuna uses guns in the game...that just isn't right. And since Lulu is pregnant (that's what I read what happens in another site, could be a bad site though), I assume she won't be playable. The worse part though is that there's no Seymour! I would assume not anyways. If I can't find any better game and I'm bored, I might get it. But I'll be very depressed not seeing Seymour...

If they put Seiken Densetsu III on GBA, I will be forced to have marital relations with that handheld system.

Well, not really, but I'll have to buy it for sure.

I've probably said too much already. Moving right along...

More information:

(Again, if you don't like spoilers, turn away)

Some unsubstantiated rumors and things:

-One of Yuna's companions will be Rikku. The Rikku game is indefinately on hold for now.

-The other companion supposedly bears a striking resemblence to Lulu, but isn't. A family member perhaps?

-Lulu is pregnant.

-Nearly the entirety of the first game's world will be available to you upon start-up.

-The story starts with Yuna finding a crystal ball of some sort that she believes has some connection to Tidus, and thus begins adventuring to find out if the person she sees in it is Tidus or what it has to do with anything.

One Con:

-The Sphere grid is gone.

-As are overdrives, in case you were wondering.

Still VERY excited though.

I'm just wondering... what's up with the ass shorts? Have you seen the preview poster? I haven't played FFX, but the character designs for Yuna that I've seen previously were all robes and stuff.

Well, I can only assume she's... wearing different pants! LOL...

You're correct, Bongo, in saying that in Final Fantasy X, Yuna wore strictly robes. In fact, all of the “face” characters in Final Fantasy X wore exactly the same outfit throughout the entire game except for Rikku when she got out of her Al Bhed outfit, Yuna's wedding dress and a brief moment where Yuna was barefoot.

Then again, Yuna also didn't carry guns in Final Fantasy X. I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure about that idea, but I'll roll with it if the game is cool. I hope they don't turn it into a rip-off of Tomb Raider, that would stink.

Lulu's pregnant, huh? Wakka, that sly dog...

No Sphere Grid? Damn. I assume they'll just have a typical Final Fantasy leveling system, then... which is OK by itself.

Though I may be wrong, is this the first "sequel" to a FF story?

I will miss the Sphere Grid, also.

Yes, this is the first direct storyline sequel to a Final Fantasy Game.

On the subject of Yuna's clothes:

Apparently the developers thought that this is what she'd be wearing once her duties as high summoner were over. I guess, they were strictly ceremonial, and she'd rather be wearing what she is in the demo shots. "Ass Shorts" if you will.

(EDIT: One too many "apparently"s.)

I would love to see a sequel to Final Fantasy 6. That was just such a great game. Every aspect of it just screamed quality, from the plot to the music to the characters. To everyone that jumped onto FF at FF7, I recommend getting a copy of it. It's relatively easy now that it has been rereleased for Playstation in Final Fantasy Anthology.

Just a few thoughts.

The reason Yuna didn't have guns in FFX was because they were illegal under the Yevonite church she belonged to. You'll recall that when the rest of the group goes to save Yuna from marrying Seymour that they're surprised to see the monks weilding rifles and flamethrowers.

Seymour also wouldn't be around since he finally got sent near the end of the game. Once you're sent, that's it. No takebacks.

Also, despite following recent Wrestlemania numbering convention, I don't think the game is FF12, as much as it's FF10-2.

As for me, I just beat FFI (I'm playing a ROM) and am currently playing II right now. I'm going to try and beat all the games in the series. (I've beaten I and Tactics, as well as the US releases of 'II' and 'III'. I'll probably be hitting many a store to get Chronicles and Anthology and am eagerly awaiting the PS2 relases of the WonderSwan versions of I-III in the US.

Nice to see the game have so many fans, esp. considering that the game got it's name because Square thought it wouldn't sell, and hence be their 'Final Fantasy' game.

I'm leery of a FFX-spinoff game, myself, plus I loathed Yuna more than every other character in the game. Well, actually Tidus was even more annoying, now that I think about it. Am I the only one who thinks FFX was a big step down in quality from the earlier games? It was too linear, and the story was teen soap-opera trash, IMHO. VI and VIII kick the shit out of X, no matter how pretty the graphics on PS2 are. The characters were uninspired, with the exception of Auron. Seymour was a pale shadow of Sephiroth and Kefka's malevolence. Tidus had possibly the most grating voice known to man. And, he was straight lame. In VII, you got Cloud, who was a badass. Squall from VIII was a badass special forces motherfucker. Zidane from the inferior but still good IX was a master thief, and then all of a sudden you get this pussy fucking sports teen idol. He wasn't a convincing steely-eyed killer in the slightest. How the hell did that little shit save the world? I dunno, maybe I'm just more skeptical these days, but I replayed IV-X a couple of months ago, and I really disliked X after playing the earlier and vastly superior games.

Cecil from FF4 is still the original badass.

Actually, isn't the hallmark of the PSX Final Fantasies that the male lead is a badass that goes through some trauma that causes him to question everything and reduces him to becoming a whiny pussy? How much of a badass was Cloud after Reunion? The main male character is never the real badass, it's usually the male secondary character that's the badass. As far as FFX, most of the reasons you hated it were the reasons I loved it. I kinda liked Tidus' story of being the stranger who doesn't belong in the world he is in.

Eh, FF6 and (at least the Job system of) FF5 smack around the PSX/PS2 FF's and make them their bitches. (Then again, I've never actually PLAYED any of them, and my only experience seeing them in action was a few minutes of FF7, but what-eva.) Then again, I only recently got a PSX, and FF4 bored the hell out of me, so...
