I think he feuded with Greg Valentine a little bit too, but that was probably just a thing where they'd have matches at house shows.

He was one of those guys who really didn't need a title, because he was so popular.

Most of his best feuds were pre-WWF. I recall him feuding with The Great Kabuki, Butch Reed, and Buzz Sawyer. He might have had a feud with Ted DiBiase somewhere in there too.

I'm a big fan of wrestling history, and for some reason a name popped into my head just the other day: The Junkyard Dog. I remember his music and that funky dance he used to do and that he passed away (RIP) but that's it...could anyone tell me a bit more about him or suggest a place I coud look him up?

i can't think of a memorable feud of his but he was on the wrestlemania three card, where he lost a "loser must bow" match to "the king" harley race.

i'm sure he's somewhere in the survivor series cards, possibly as a co-captain the year they had co-captains.

he used to come out to "another one bites the dust".

um, he went to wcw around the time ricky steamboat jumped.

that's about all i remember, man.

It's just you against the group mind.

Go over to and read the Circa columns for Black History Month. You`ll get a good overview of JYD`s career there.

Plus he was immortalized on Hulk Hogan`s Rock N Wrestling!

Hey! I think this is my 100th POST! WHOO! And if it's not, well, the Junkyard Dog was a semi-big star back in the 70's and 80's, using his crazy dog gimmick. Basically, Rick Steiner STOLE HIS GIMMICK from JYD. So...there ya go.

Holden: Judging by the buzz, that movie's gonna make some serious bank.
Jay: What buzz?
Holden: The internet buzz.
Jay: What the f*ck is the internet?

JYD was probably the second highest face on the WWF card for awhile. I remember he had a deceant feud with Terry Funk. He used the powerslam as his finisher, and as far as I can remember he was an all around badass in the WWF for awhile. I choose not to remember his WCW days though.

JYD was a huge WWF superstar in the 80's without ever holding a title that I can remember. But people just loved him. He had a cool headbutt he used (crawling on all fours and just ramming his opponent when they were down). He also had one of the campiest intro songs ever in "Grab Them Cakes" which was also really popular.

I did a little checking and this site has a nice history for the Dog: as well as other guys like Steamboat. I remember his funky headbutt he always did, be funny to see someone do it now..

Indeed. Regardless of his actual talent level in the ring, you have to respect a man who goes out in public with the word "THUMP" on his ass.

JYD (Sylvester Ritter) was a huge star int he 70s and 80s in the Midsouth area and in the WWF. He was also a big star in the Stampede area. He was awful in the ring, but the kids loved him. He was also a bit of a player backstage. Tom Billington's biography "Pure Dynamite" said that Ritter was the one who introduced him to crack cocaine.

If you are interested, I have a Big Daddy Ritter page up on my Stampede Tribute page.

JYD also used to come out to "Another one bites the dust". Now THAT was a cool intro.

I like Stevie and Victoria better tha Stevie and Jazz. Besides... he was only around Jazz for a couple of weeks... easy to drop that angle. Think about it... Wacko and Psycho go together! An a different note... Jazz bores the hell out of me...
