Seriously? I mean, the WWF already has a competing promoter that wants to destroy the WWF under contract already.

Paul Heyman.

There's no good reason why they wouldn't use him, either. Sure, Vince had him fired and removed from the shows, but that was before Vince snapped. And Heyman's character shouldn't have any problem with destroying the WWF from within. It'd also give the nWo a logical reason for some genuine new blood like Raven or Awesome to round out the faction beyond the big 3.

Or am I totally off here?

One good reason would be the real life reason of Heyman does not want to be in front of the camera. Since he left the commentary table (oh sad sad day) he's been focusing on his other job of booker/writer, which is what he really wanted to do when he signed with the WWF.

Once you start down the smark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

Oh, yeah - I know about that. But, he's already come out from the back once before, for a full-time announcing detail. It wouldn't be as time consuming to be a mouthpiece for a faction. A few backstage spots here, a promo in the ring there...

Plus, if the boss asks you to do something, you generally smile and say "Sure thing!", y'know?

How about the fact that there are a lot of people who thought ECW in general and Heyman in particular are a strong symbol of everything that went wrong with the Invasion storyline, and that if this turns into Invasion II it's gonna suck worse?

Ambition is just an excuse for people who are too stupid to be lazy.

I am sorry that Austin won't get to pass the torch, as it were. And I'm not entirely convinced that losing to Brock wouldn't have been a bad thing, in general. A squash would have been lame.
